Drawing Snapshot - My New Profile Picture! (Patreon)
Content
Hello my lovely flowers, and welcome to June!
Today I filmed the first activity for this month's illustration club so the video and prompt will be out tomorrow, but for now I wanted to share a quick snapshot of my new profile picture that I drew last week.
I had my last profile picture for about a year so it felt like time for a refresh, and I think the new one is much more fun and vibrant!
Because I was posting my profile picture to my Instagram feed, I made two versions: one that was framed in a rounded square which I usually do for my feed (which is the one below), and one that went all the way to the edges (which is the one above). Having a version go all the way to the edges makes it easier when uploading my profile picture to different sites because then I don't have to worry about how it will crop.
So here is a little breakdown of how I illustrated it, and the colour palette I used:
As usual, my illustration process went a little something like this:
First I drew a simple sketch of my character (which is me!). For this one I really wasn't sure how I wanted the background to be so I left that for later. I always wear a gold necklace that Dan bought me and am often wearing a jumper like this one, so I made sure to include those!
Then I reduced my sketch layer to about 20% opacity and set it to multiply blend mode so that I would always be able to see through it onto layers below.
Using my sketch as a reference, I coloured in all of my main elements on their own layers beneath my sketch, and also added anything that wasn't on my sketch like my background.
I drew in lots of layers of shading and texture - some broad and some fine.
Then I added some finer details like the necklace and lines on my jumper.
And that's about it!
I think it took me about 2 hours to draw, maybe a little longer because I was watching TV while I drew it.
Looking forward to starting the illustration club with you all tomorrow, it's going to be fun!❤
