Hello my lovelies!

July has been quite a busy month for me so far and I wanted to pop on and let you know what I've been up to and tell you a little bit about the projects that I'm working on at the moment.

Firstly, it's mid winter in Tasmania and it's been so chilly lately! We actually went for a spontaneous overnight camping trip at the start of the month to enjoy some sunny weather and it was beautiful but so cold overnight and we woke up to so much frost everywhere. It was worth braving the cold for though because we went on some lovely walks along the coast.

I was feeling pretty ill the week after that (probably from camping mid-winter 😅) so I took a couple of days off to get lots of rest and watch Disney movies which helped me feel a lot better.

I've got a few fun projects on at the moment which is really exciting but there's lots of bits and pieces to do so I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed about it all earlier in the month. I'm working on draft sketches for two different picture books at the moment (one is quite short and will be done in the next week, the other is really long and will be ongoing for a few months yet!) so there's lots of drawing to be done and I have to make sure that I keep making progress otherwise I'll end up with everything to do last minute.

I also need to juggle that with my regular content on YouTube and here on Patreon, so to balance everything I've been drawing a lot less frequently for Instagram and instead using that time to work on the book projects.

On top of that I'm trying to get together a website where I can sell some physical products like t-shirt and prints (SO EXCITED ABOUT IT) and now that I have samples I need to do a photoshoot with them so I can set up a shop.

Surprisingly, despite it sounding like a lot to do I'm still able to work regular hours without going overtime. I'm really lucky that I have a really flexible job and also I've built a lot of flexibility into my schedule for times like this, so if I have a lot on my plate I can reduce the amount of work that I do for YouTube by focusing on videos that are really simple to create  and that frees up lots of time.

Plus I have Dan who helps out lots, he does all of the video editing but he also helps with websites and keeping me organised (not a strength of mine!).

I'm also lucky that I really enjoy drawing so doing lots of it still doesn't seem like a job!

I'd love to know what you do when you have lots of work to do and how you balance everything. It's a tricky thing to do!

In other news I just re-arranged my art studio a little bit! I had a desktop computer on a table that I used to use for graphic design but haven't used in months so I've removed that and now have a spare craft table which feels like such a luxury 🥰

Hope you are doing well ❤️

Hey Mimi, when I've got too much to do, I start making plans over plans. But it's just my unhealthy way to procrastinate. It's a waste of time, because the planning itself needs so much time and what I all plan out to get done in one week is impossible to get through. I think, prioritising and letting the other stuff go, over a short while, is the only way to manage these workfilled days successful. Your camping-adventure sounds so lovely. I can imagine the quiet walk in the cold - it must have been wonderful! It's so great to hear, that you're working on new book-projects! I mean - how exciting is that? Thanks for sharing! I wish you a wonderful productive time! ❤️

Yes I've definitely fallen into over-planning before and being over-ambitious with what I think I can get done! And yes I'm super excited about the books - I'm very lucky! 🥰

Hi Mimi! loved reading your newsletter this month, glad you had a great time camping-not so much about sickness after! How exciting that you’re working on more picture books! Did the first one help you with getting more work? Also those t shirts look super cute!

Thanks, Jasmine! I think the first book probably did help with more books, I'm doing some more with the same publisher so it definitely helped there but I also got approached by a different publisher so perhaps they saw my first book? Perhaps I should ask them!
