Drawing Snapshot (featuring protea flower!) (Patreon)
Content
Hello my lovely flowers!
I drew this protea flower yesterday evening and wanted to share a little breakdown of the process with you.
They're such impressive flowers and lately we've had quite a lot of them blooming in people's gardens nearby so I felt like drawing my own 🌷🌿
So let's take a look at the drawing process for this flower and I've also included the colour palette that you're very welcome to use for your own illustration as well!
My process for this illustration went a little something like this:
First I started with a basic sketch of my composition, for this one I looked up proteas on Google Images and used that as a reference for the shape
Then I made my sketch layer about 20% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I would be able to see through it onto new layers below
On new layers I started colouring in all of the areas in just a solid colour, using the sketch as a reference.
Then I added some finer details like on the leaves and petals
Then I added loads of layers of shading, I think each part (petals, leaves etc) has about 6 or 7 layers of different shading or texture for this illustration (I don't really need to use that many though, I could have merged some together)
I added some sparkles in the background and signed it at the side
And that's about it!
I enjoyed sitting and drawing this happy flower, it's always nice to draw something just for fun!
Hope you're having a good start to September!❤️🌷✨
