Hello again lovelies!

I've just finished this month's final illustration for the illustration club and wanted to show you!

The prompt for this month as you know is 'cute and spooky' and I had such a nice time drawing my illustration for this prompt! ✨🍂👻

So far in the club this month we’ve filled a sketchbook page with ideas relating to the prompt, then we explored some composition sketches from those ideas, and now we can take one of those composition ideas and create a final illustration from it.

If you skipped the first activities and came straight to drawing a final illustration that's totally fine!

You can use any medium you like to create your final illustration! The aim of this activity (and the whole club) is to just explore the creative process and enjoy practising our art skills together, so if you can achieve those two things then whatever you create is a success!

So I’ll show you what I created for this activity based on a sketch from activity 2!

This is my final illustration for 'cute and spooky' and I went with the little ghosts going mushroom picking because they were too cute to pass up!

I've noticed that I often pick the third sketch to turn into a final illustration, I wonder if it's because I've warmed up with a couple of simple compositions and have had a chance to develop my ideas a bit more by the time I reach a third sketch?

So here's a simple breakdown of my drawing process for these two friendly ghosts, and I've also added the main colour palette in case you wanted to use it for your own illustrations.

So my process for this drawing went a little something like this:

First I drew a digital sketch of my composition, using my pencil sketch from activity 2 as a reference.

Then I made that sketch layer about 20% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I would always be able to see through it onto layers underneath.

On new layers below I started colouring in all of the shapes of my illustration, using the sketch as a reference. Most things that were a different colour went on their own layer.

Then I added details like grass and flowers, and line details for the trees.

After that I spent a little while adding texture to everything with my texture brush (I'll be sharing it with you before the end of the month!)

And because I wanted a bit of glow to my ghosts, I drew around them with a soft brush in yellow, and then made that layer 'screen' blend mode so that it made a glow effect.

And that's about it!

I think they turned out really cute - I'll post this drawing to Instagram in the next few days 😊✨

Now it's your turn (yay!) - take one of the composition sketches that you drew in activity 2 and create a final illustration from it (if you haven't already). Or if you feel like it you can do a completely new idea!

These activities pretty much replicate my normal art process when I'm faced with a new prompt - I brainstorm ideas, doodle down a few sketches to explore some compositions, and then illustrate my final piece.

If you do draw a final illustration with the prompt this month then feel free to share it with us over on Discord in the #final-illustrations channel. Everyone is welcome, and you can share what you've created for any of the activities at any time!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how your illustrations turn out ❤
