Hello my lovelies!

I've just had a nice afternoon illustrating this galaxy themed girl with the dreamiest hair!

I was drawing this character based on the last drawing poll where you guys voted for 'a galaxy themed person with long hair and stars all around them'. Originally I was drawing a different sketch earlier in the month but I wasn't that keen on it and then I got busy illustrating for other projects so today I started again and I'm glad that I did!

Let's break down my drawing process and I've also included the palette that I used in case you'd like to use it for your own illustrations 🥰

So my process went a little something like this:

First, I drew a simple sketch of my composition, and made it about 20% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I'd be able to easily see through it onto new layers below.

Then I went through each element and coloured it in using the sketch as a reference, keeping different coloured areas on separate layers.

I added details like the stars and some lines through the hair to show its shape and texture.

Then I spent quite a long time adding layers of shading and texture (the hair took the longest)! I build up my shading over several layers - some with broad texture and some with more defined shading.

I also drew a galaxy in the background and added some definition for the clouds and then it was finished!

I haven't drawn hair like this in a long time and it was a fun challenge to make it all nice and flowy - I'm so happy with how it turned out! ✨
