Hello beautiful flowers!

I'm having way too much fun with this month's illustration club and have decided to draw two of my sketches from the last activity because I just couldn't choose!

As you know the prompt for this month is 'favourite hobbies', and first I've illustrated the arty bunny and then I'll illustrate the hiking mouse probably sometime next week - they're both so sweet 😍

So far in the club this month we’ve filled a sketchbook page with ideas relating to the prompt, then we explored some composition sketches from those ideas, and now we can take one of those composition ideas and create a final illustration from it.

If you skipped the first activities and came straight to drawing a final illustration that's totally fine!

You can use any medium you like to create your final illustration! The aim of this activity (and the whole club) is to just explore the creative process and enjoy practising our art skills together, so if you can achieve those two things then whatever you create is a success!

So I’ll show you what I created for this activity based on a sketch from activity 2!

This is my final illustration for 'favourite hobbies' and I love this little artist bunny - I think they'd look super cute on a t-shirt or tote bag!

So here's a little breakdown of my illustration process along with the basic colour palette that I used which you're welcome to use for your own art as well (you can download a jpg of it below if you want to open it in your drawing software).

My process went a little something like this:

First I took a photo of my pencil sketch and imported it into my digital drawing software

I reduced the opacity of the photo so that it wasn't so vibrant, and then on a new layer above the photo I traced over the sketch so that I would have a digital version of it

Then I hid/deleted the photo layer (I don't need to reference it anymore), and made my digital sketch layer about 30% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I'd be able to clearly see through it onto layers below

After that I was ready to start colouring everything! I coloured in each section of my sketch, leaving most elements of a different colour on separate layers so that it would be easier to add shading to them later

Using a thin brush I added little details like stars in the background and fur lines

Then I gave everything a couple of layers of shading and texture, and that was it!

It's quite a simple illustration but I think it turned out so fun. There will be a drawing walkthrough video of this illustration available for Beautiful Bluebells before the end of the month 🥰

Now it's your turn (yay!) - take one of the composition sketches that you drew in activity 2 and create a final illustration from it (if you haven't already). Or if you feel like it you can do a completely new idea!

These activities pretty much replicate my normal art process when I'm faced with a new prompt - I brainstorm ideas, doodle down a few sketches to explore some compositions, and then illustrate my final piece.

If you do draw a final illustration with the prompt this month then feel free to share it with us over on Discord in the #final-illustrations channel. Everyone is welcome, and you can share what you've created for any of the activities at any time!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how your illustrations turn out ❤

Yay for two final illustrations! Love the little details like the splotches on the bunny's apron and the little bow in the back!
