Mimi's Illustration Club May - Third Activity! (Patreon)
Content
Hello my flowers!
I hope you are having a nice weekend, I'm taking some time with my family but wanted to pop in to share my final illustration for this month's illustration club 😊🪱🎉
I've been really enjoying this month's prompt 'a cute party' and seeing all of your adorable party ideas over on Discord - or if you're joining in privately then I hope you're having fun too!
I really liked the second composition sketch that I had drawn but I didn't have much time this week so I drew the third idea instead which was much faster and still cute.
You can use any medium you like to create your final illustration. The aim of this activity (and the whole club) is to just explore the creative process and enjoy practising our art skills together, so if you can achieve those two things then whatever you create is a success!
So I’ll show you what I created for this activity based on a sketch from activity 2:
This is my final illustration for 'a cute party', I like the colours and think it's cute but next time would like to do a better job of the contrast on the worm.
So here's a little breakdown of my illustration process, and I've included the colour palette that I used in case you'd like to use it for your own art.
My illustration process went a little something like this:
First I drew a simple sketch of my composition, using the pencil sketch from activity 2 as a guide.
I reduced my sketch layer to about 30% opacity and made it 'multiply' blend mode so that I would always be able to see through it onto layers below.
On new layers I started colouring in all of the elements of my illustration, using the sketch layer as a guide for the shapes. I usually put anything that's a separate element or different colour on its own layer.
I added some finer line details to the worm and cake.
Then I started adding some shading and texture with my texture brushes, doing a broad pass of soft texture first and then adding more defined shading after.
And that's about it!
Now it's your turn (yay!) - take one of the composition sketches that you drew in activity 2 and create a final illustration from it (if you haven't already). Or if you feel like it you can do a completely new idea!
These activities pretty much replicate my normal art process when I'm faced with a new prompt - I brainstorm ideas, doodle down a few sketches to explore some compositions, and then illustrate my final piece.
If you do draw a final illustration with the prompt this month then feel free to share it with us over on Discord in the #final-illustrations channel. Everyone is welcome, and you can share what you've created for any of the activities at any time!
I'm really looking forward to seeing how your illustrations turn out ❤
