Hello lovelies!

I know that lots of members of our community are from all over the world so I thought I would show you how to draw one of our Australian icons - the koala!

They’re so cute, they’re easy to draw and they sleep for most of the day, so what’s not to like 😄

Let’s start with just the face because sometimes you might not want to draw a full koala.

Start by lightly drawing a teardrop shape as a guide, and form a cross through the middle with a vertical and horizontal line.

Now trace along the outer edge of that guide, but cut across the top instead of going all the way up to the point.

Let’s draw a guide for the ears, so out of each side of the head draw a semi-circle, making sure they meet up with the top two corners of the head shape.

Draw an ear on each side, roughly following the guides but with a lumpy line so that they look fluffy.

Now it’s time for the face! Draw a big oval shape for the nose in the middle, with the top of it meeting the middle of the cross. Add a smile at the bottom, and an eye on each side of the nose.

And that’s it - we have a sweet koala face!

Now that you know how to draw a face, let’s draw a full koala in a tree.

Start by drawing a face on your page with lots of room around it (I like to put mine at a bit of an angle), and then draw an egg shaped guideline out the bottom.

Near the top of the egg, draw two curved lines that stay open on both ends, making sure the left ends hang just a little bit over the edge of the guidelines.

Connect the two lines on the left side with four little lumps for fingers (koalas actually have five fingers but we can’t see one of them in this drawing)

Draw their back leg with a curved line and four little toes again, making sure that the foot ends at the guideline.

Now trace from the bottom of the foot, along the guideline, all the way up to the head. This is the koala’s back.

Great! We have a koala who’s ready for a tree, but before we draw them one let’s set ourselves some guidelines with four angled lines (two on each side of the koala) that form a ‘V’ shape.

Trace along those lines to draw the main tree trunk, except for under the koalas bottom where we want a curved line instead.

Now we can add a few branches sticking out from the main trunk.

Koalas like eating lots of leaves so add some leaves around the branches you’ve just drawn.

And it’s finished!

If you’d like to colour in your koala, here is an example of how I coloured mine in! Koalas are often grey (not always this dark though) or they can also be a bit brown, and I gave mine rosy cheeks and some fur lines too.

I hope you enjoyed drawing a koala with me! 🥰
