Hello my lovely flowers!

I drew this little squirrel earlier in the month and since it's something I don't draw very often I wanted to show you a simple breakdown of the illustration process.

I actually saw some little baby squirrels when we were hiking in Sweden so that was the inspiration for this illustration!

So my drawing process for this illustration went a little something like this:

First I drew a simple sketch of my squirrel, using the photo as a bit of a reference. I wasn't too sure yet what the background would be.

Then I made the sketch layer about 30% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that it would be see-through.

On new layers below, I started colouring in all of my shapes just in basic blocks of colour. Usually I draw different elements on their own layers.

Then I tried drawing a forest floor for the background but decided that I didn't want it all to be brown so I added some grass and daisies instead!

Once everything was coloured in, I added some details where they were needed (like for the fur)

Then I gave everything lots of shading and texture using my texture brushes.

And that's it!

It's so nice to be able to see something cute out in the real world and get to illustrate it! 🐿️🌸
