I've been enjoying some illustrating this week and finally got to draw the little cabin from last month's drawing poll!

The cabins take a little longer for me to draw than some of my other illustrations and I just got carried away with other things last month, but now that I'm a bit more settled again it was really lovely to sit and draw this little scene.

It was inspired by all of the beautiful cabins that we saw in Sweden in June, and if you'd like to use the colour palette for your own art you're more than welcome to (I've attached it below)!

So my drawing process went a little something like this:

First I sketched out my composition. I knew that I wanted a lake in there so I drew the cabin over to the side with room for the lake next to it, and to give a bit more personality to the scene I added a happy sunshine in the sky.

Then I made my sketch layer about 30% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I could easily see through it (the blend mode is totally optional, I just find that it helps me see the sketch clearly).

On new layers below the sketch, I started colouring in all of my shapes, using the sketch as a reference. Mostly I draw different colours on their own layers.

Then I added little details like flowers and wood panelling on the cabin.

I gave everything lots of texture and shading using my texture brushes. Pretty much every elements gets some texture to it.

I added some glowy lighting effects to the sun and hills, I have a simple tutorial for how I do that here.

And on this illustration I also added some sketched texture as if it were coloured in with pencil, which is something I don't often do but I liked the look of!

I really like how this one turned out, but it definitely took me longer than usual (always worth it though)! ☀️🌲✨

As a Swede this illustration makes me so happy 🥰🤗. Beautiful (or “vackert” as we say it in Swedish) 🧡
