Drawing Snapshot - A Simple Flower (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone! 🌷
I drew this super simple flower last week and it was such a joy to draw so I wanted to share the process with you.
I always enjoy drawing flowers, even if they're really simple and I've drawn similar ones before! They're great for when I want to have fun drawing but don't want to fuss around with new or complicated ideas.
Here's a simple breakdown of my digital drawing process, plus you can download the colour palette below if you'd like to use it yourself!
My drawing process went something like this:
First I drew a rough sketch of my composition. I used the prompt 'a lovely rainbow' from my 2024 prompt list.
Then I made my sketch layer about 30% opacity so that I would be able to see through it onto new layers below.
Underneath the sketch layer, I coloured in all of the main elements on their own layers. I've been experimenting with some new brushes that I'm really excited about!
I've been really enjoying drawing soft gradient backgrounds lately so I used some new texture brushes to make the background go from blue to pink.
Then I gave everything a few layers of shading and texture. I mostly do this with 'multiply' blend mode (in the opacity settings) on each of the shading layers so it gives a deeper and more saturated version of the colour. Because I've been experimenting with some new texture brushes this one has lots more layers of texture than normal!
I added lots of little details like the spots on the leaves and petals.
And that was it!
I'm hoping to finish my new texture brushes before Easter - I'll let you know as soon as they're ready!
