April 26, 2024 Roundup (Patreon)

I promise to make these weekly in May. My new work schedule forces me to wake up at 3am every weekday, and some of my routines have fallen by the wayside. I'll do better next month.
Additionally, man, it's been difficult to confront the news lately. This week has been an exercise in the powerful exercising their authority after a few years of minor acquiescence. Students who protest the genocide in Gaza are being seized and defamed en masse. Harvey Weinstein, while still in prison, just got a second chance that anybody who's not a rich white man could never dream of. And the Supreme Court has been entertaining the possibility that the American Presidency should be a dictatorship. Shit is bad.
The renewal of FISA Section 702 has devastated me. Warrantless surveillance is global warfare that J. Edgar Hoover would have given his leg for. Let's hope some of the paltry reforms abate the damage, but I'm not terribly hopeful this week.
