Ah the sweet pain of remembrance

The ice wind on my ankles

the crisp smell of dead leaves and cold dirt

blasting through the air

of quick, clicking steps

echoing through darkened streets

and giggles here and there

half heard like whispers in the fog

when the world was new and endless

before the dull pattern of life became clear

when charming fangs might lurk

to raise me out of the muck

when a handsome prince

was just a kiss away

when anything could happen

when strangers handed me full sized candy bars

Oh I miss trick or treating!
