James Arnold Taylor does Clone Wars Obi wan and of course he's the younger version of him in the Holocron this episode, Obi made that recording during Revenge of the Sith 17 years ago from this point. But because this is 2 years before the Original trilogy they of course had to have Obi wan looking & sounding like Alec Guinness's Ben Kenobi out of respect for him and the original trilogy and just because it makes more sense timeline wise. Stephen Stanton who voices AP-5 voiced Old Ben for this after Lucasfilm heard his Alec Guinness Impression which to be fair sounds pretty much identical, so that's how that was decided. And yeah the Mid-season trailer for Season 3 sort of teased us that Maul and Kenobi were gonna confront each other and when we saw that we all knew it could only end one way so I guess we were all prepared for it 😅 And yeah the Duel was shorter than a lot expected but as Sean H above pointed out there were a lot of discussions and ideas that went into how they would do this, there's loads of videos and behind the scenes interviews discussing it so in a way they subverted expectations but not in a bad or disrespectful way. It's a lot of fan's favourite duel once they learn a lot more about it. But your reaction is still definitely understandable so don't worry 😂 we were all still sad to see Maul go 😭

it’s really impressive how the writers were able to take a character who looks like the devil and only spoke 2 lines in the phantom menace, and gave him one of the most tragic arcs and depressing deaths we’ve seen in star wars. your love for maul has been a joy to see since you’ve gone down the star wars rabbit hole, and this reaction didn’t disappoint!
