I LOVE this episode. Soooo good. The first time we see a reversal of the skeptic-believer dynamic. And maybe the first time the show realized that Gillian Anderson can act the FUCK out of a scene!

I think Boggs was for real, but Scully made the right choice not to witness his execution. He was a psychopath and manipulative 'til the end. Who knows what awful thing he might have said or done? And then to have that taint Scully's memory of her father would be awful. I love how earlier Scully finds the line of "he was your father" to be so unsatisfying. But then by the end she realizes that she doesn't need some psychic message from beyond the grave to validate the entire relationship she had with her dad and "he was my father" truly is all she needed to know. Just really sweet and well written.
