This topic is my biggest pet peeve, and I rant a lot! I apologize.

It's interesting that while Scully is the rational scientist and Mulder is the believer, they also have the layer that Scully was raised Catholic, so there is a wee wrinkle in her worldview. Though in this episode, as a Catholic, Scully would find a Baptist revival just as wack-a-doo as Mulder does. The cases with religious aspects are usually interesting because we get to see Mulder and Scully's roles swap a bit, with Scully a lot more willing to believe and Mulder just dismissing things outright. But unfortunately, despite that dynamic being such an interesting source of drama, I'd say that most of the episodes that try to involve religion just aren't written very well. (I love that we learn The Exorcist is one of Scully's favourite movies)
