Really enjoyable reaction video, you were totally focused into the episode. Yes, two different people see Donnie Pfaster as a demon-like figure, as you correctly noticed... the guy at the morgue, and Scully. Obviously it's not only due to Scully, because the guy at the beginning saw him like that too. It's up to the audience to decide what to make of it. On screen we have seen no supernatural abilities when it comes to Donnie, but we do see that he's a very evil person. One interpretation could simply be that he is so evil that he is in some way demonic, but only a few people can see his true nature under certain circumstances. So, not a literal demon, but, metaphorically you could say. The scene where Scully sees Donnie change his shape into multiple different individuals was inspired by real-life reports about Jeffrey Dahmer, as described by Chris Carter: "There are reports of people who had been under the spell of Jeffrey Dahmer, who actually claimed that he shape-shifted during those hours when they were held hostage; that his image actually changed." I'm happy you enjoyed the episode, and yes it is very dark and creepy. The episode also inspired Carter to do a series called "Millennium" starring Lance Henriksen. I'm a big fan of it, and it has a big fan-base, but not nearly as large as the X-Files fandom. And it is also a totally different type of show compared to XF.

I love me a Scully-centric episode. And yes, Gillian Anderson kills it. Can you BELIEVE the execs wanted someone else to play Scully? Fools! I can't imagine how difficult it would be to go into medicine and law enforcement as a pretty petite woman. It would be a constant battle to be taken seriously. I love that this episode addresses that Scully finds it hard to be vulnerable with Mulder, fearing that he'd maybe think less of her for it, or see her as less of a competent agent. But of course Mulder doesn't think that way for a second and completely understands. Their partnership is the HEART of the show. This is the episode that made me a shipper. ❤️ Gillian Anderson has said that Donnie Pfaster is the scariest monster they ever had on The X-Files, and I'd have to agree. The actor does such a good job of having this almost child-like demeanour, but given he's such a physically large man, it's very off-putting. He's like an enormous boy. Gosh, he's scary.

Gillian was phenomenal in this episode! Anytime she cries, I tear up with her. My interpretation of the face changing was that it could be anyone. In the last scene, Mulder states that “our fear of the everyday, of the lurking stranger…is more frightening than any X-File. The fear that it could happen to you.” I think Scully has had a lot of previous trauma with being abducted and attacked and the case compounded the trauma. The fact that he was so ordinary, nothing supernatural or past childhood issues, makes him scarier(pure evil as seen with the devil face).
