Poor Ellen. She's never going to leave her apartment again. I definitely don't love this episode. The only good parts are the little blind girl and Scully kicking that creep's ass. Not sure why he thought eating people was the way to go. He could have bought himself a tub of Crisco and an ice cream scoop and gone to town. Yuck.

That sound effect you mentioned, I think it's supposed to be rapid plucking of violin strings. But all the music in The X-Files score (with the exception of the two movies) is done on synthesizers, so I can't say exactly how he achieved that effect. The music composer for The X-Files, Mark Snow, died just recently (July 4). We have him to thank for the creepy and instantly recognizable theme song.
