Thank you VIP! Asia and Bj you guys are killing it with these movie drops!!! Hope everyone is having a great week!! 🙌😁✌️

asiaandbj

Awesome movie! Great cast! Even Jared is in this one! ☺️

Erin Black

Thanks for watching this movie. It's a classic. Please, watch, "Life Is A House". Pretty please, with Extra Whipped Cream substituted with Heavy Whipping Cream, Caramel Drizzle, Almonds, and 3 Cherries on top. 🤠

Erin Black

Susanna Kaysen's (Winona Ryder) Doctor was Eric's Dad, Red (Kurtwood Smith), from "That 70s Show".

Erin Black

This movie really hits home with me, because when I was 18 years old, I chased a bottle of Aspirin with 2 Fifths of Whiskey. I truly wasn't even trying to kill myself. I really don't know why I did it. I had already guzzled one Fifth of Whiskey, before I took the Aspirin. The next morning was pure Hell. All I could hear was ringing in my ears and I won't get into the other grizzly details of the aftermath, but nobody would call an ambulance for me, because they thought they would get in trouble. Someone called my Dad for me. Thank GOD he answered the phone. He got me to the hospital within 15 mimutes, and he had to carry me in, due to my body already being in shock. They told my Dad that if I had gotten there 15 minutes later, I would have been dead. That was such a stupid thing of me to do, and it was almost a permanent thing. The Angels were watching over me then. I have never done anuthing else like that, and I am 43 years old now. And, I never will do anything that stupid again. There is always mental health crisis lines to call, and 911 is very easy to dial. They can always get you there. I realize that mental hospitals in the 60s were way worse though. I can tell you one thing...Taking a bottle of Aspirin and chasing it with a bottle of liquor, is a horrible death, and I would never wish that on my worst enemy...I don't have enemies though. I love Jesus, and he told me to never hate, so I have forgiven everyone that has ever done anything awful to me. I was going to school to become a Drug/Alcohol Counselor, but I dropped out, due to poor health, but I am going to go back to school soon, because I am only one class away from an Associate's. I would like to continue, until I get a Ph.D. Covid, actually, opened up a gate for me, to be able to be an Online Counselor, because so many people have there appointments online now. PLEASE, WATCH "LIFE IS A HOUSE". It holds even more true to my heart. AND, PLEASE, NOBODY EVER ATTEMPT SUICIDE...IT IS A VERY PERMANENT SOLUTION, TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM...EVEN IF THE PROBLEM IS PERMANENT, YOU CAN GET HELP FOR IT.

asiaandbj

Julie A?!?!?! lol!! You too!! What the heck have you been up to? I miss you ladies! Hope you both are doing really good! ~Asia

Erin Black

You two should read the book, because it clarifies a lot more.

Michele G

Jared Leto is December 30th ! He’s been in a lot of movies !! Mr Dreamy Eyes 😍

Erin Black

Asia, don't worry, you're not the only one that cringed and looked in awe, at the disrespectful song that the one rude girl (The one that said she wanted her fu**ing clothes.) was singing. I felt the disrespectfulness of that song to the core, and I am Caucasian and Cherokee, so I can't imagine how disrespected that song made you feel. I really don't see why some writers feel the need to put stuff like that in a movie, because it didn't make the movie any better. It's a good movie on it's own. If anything, that song only made the movie worse. So, I am angry with the writers for adding that to a good movie.

Bonnie Smith

Oh wow, I'm so happy you made it through that challenge and experience! I have some close friends who struggle with suicidal thoughts, since they were kids (I'm 37 and one friend is about 10 years older). I don't feel a lot of people really understand the struggles others go through. But being there to just listen or keep company can help too!

Rebecca Karsner

Just finished watching.. yes that was Brittany Murphy as Daisy.. watching the scene where they show her in the bathroom is chilling considering Brittany Murphy was found dead in her bathroom when she died in 2009.. 😭😭 RIP to her 🙏 Winona Ryder was really good friends with her and said in an interview that she can't even watch this movie anymore 😪 Glad you guys liked this! This film is great!! 😁

Erin Black

The black haired girl is not the girl from "Breaking Bad". The black haired girl in this movie, that plays Daisy Randone, is Brittany Murphy, a very famous actress that passed away from Pneumonia, Exacerbated by Anemia, and Drug Intoxication. They did find Prescription Drugs and Over-The-Counter Drugs in her system, and on her side of the bed (a ton of pill bottles), but nothing illegal. She died on December 20th, 2009, at 32 years of age. Her Husband, Simon Monjack, a Screenwriter, died just 5 months later, on May 23rd, 2010, at 40 years of age, from the exact same ailments: Acute Pneumonia and Anemia, and drug intoxication (Prescription and Over-The-Counter Meds). The only meds in his system were cold medications and meds prescribed by the Doctor, but he had over 90 pill bottles on his side of the bed. Brittany Murphy's Mother, Sharon Murphy, also lived with them. There were many odd things about her Husband, and one of those things, was that he controlled her at all costs, and he asked her to marry him, when he was having trouble with immigration. He also refused an Autopsy on her body. There was a speculation that there was mold in the home, but the Medical Examiner's Office dismissed this theory. However, Simon Monjack's Mother, Linda Monjack, said that Simon had found severe mold in the home prior to his death. Simon Monjack supposedly was hallucinating and saw things crawling out of his skin before his death. What is even crazier: Brittany Murphy bought this home from Britney Spears, while Spears was dating Justin Timberlake. Spears said that she had an otherworldly experience in the home, and she refused to go back. She had her friend do Reiki Healing on her, and she swears that after he left, a portal had opened. She went to stay at Casa Del Mar Hotel, until she found another home. Simon Monjack bought the home for $3.85 Million, fully furnished. It was 10,000 square feet. Simon Monjack and Brittany Murphy moved into the house in 2003 and got married in the house, in April 2007, in a private Jewish Ceremony. The house was located on Rising Glen Road, atop the Sunset Strip. Brittany Murphy hated the house and was always begging to stay in expensive hotels, because she felt uneasy about the home and felt something was off about it. He would always refuse, because he didn't want to waste a 10,000 square foot home. Brittany Murphy found that the Main Bathroom was her Comfort Zone, and she spent hours each day there: reading magazines, singing to herself, writing poetry, sampling her beauty products, and looking at herself in the mirror. That bathroom, her Comfort Zone, was ultimately the place where Murphy died. IT IS SO CRAZY THAT SHE DIED IN HER BATHROOM, IN THIS MOVIE, AND THAT SHE LITERALLY DIED IN HER OWN BATHROOM, YEARS AFTER THIS MOVIE CAME OUT. Her Husband also died in the same Bathroom. GOD really does work in mysterious ways. Winona Ryder (who played Susanna Kaysen in this movie) was a very good friend of Brittany Murphy's, and after her death, she refused to ever watch this movie again. She was much too young to lose her life, and so was her Husband. The Doctors said that their Pneumonia was undertreated, so I am confused, as to why they didn't get more medical help for themselves, because they absolutely had enough money to see the best Doctors in the country. Even though, I have seen photos of mold in the house, the Coroner said that there was no evidence of mold spores in the lungs. She died in the Hollywood Hills Home, but was still taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and pronounced dead. After Brittany's death, Simon and her Mother, Sharon Murphy seemed awfully close (in a very strange, creepy way). You can see this in the Documentaries and on "Larry King Live". Simon Monjack also was found dead in the home. Brittany Murphy's Mother, Sharon sold the Estate at a massive loss for $2.7 Million, in 2011, after struggling to find a buyer. In 2013, it was torn down, and underwent a multiyear build. The developers aimed to create a sprawling, contemporary structure, and it was sold again, in 2017, for $14.53 Million. The property looked nothing like it had previously. According to Zillow, the new home, was last sold in December 2020 for $11.59 Million. It measures 9,400 square feet, and it has 5 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. It's listing is described as, "a city view masterpiece, perched atop the Sunset Strip," with an open floor plan, high cielings, and "rooms thst open completely to outdoor lounge spaces, nearly all [with] unobstructed city views." The main suite is 2,000 square feet and boasts two walk-in closets, two bathrooms, and a private patio. Other key features in the home include a home theatre, massage room, wine cellar, infinity pool and spa, and an elevator. What makes it even sadder: Simon Monjack felt that the home was "unlucky", due to the way his Wife felt about it, so he was moving Brittany and her Mother to New York, the next year, where they could start making and raising a family. THAT NEW HOME SOUNDS GREAT, BUT NO THANK YOU. The actress (Krysten Ritter), is the the woman that played Jesse Pinkman' Girlfriend, Jane Margolis. I can see how you thought they were the same actress though. She was born on December 16th 1981. That's awesome, because my Birthday is December 16th 1980. Now, I want to look up and watch the story of Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack's death. Please, watch "Life Is A House". Thank you guys, for all of your great reactions. I just watched your "Grumpy Old Men" Reaction last night, because that movie brings back memories. You should definately check out the Documentaries about her death. I wasn't aware of all of the weird things that her Husband did, and I was also unaware of how controlling he was. Even though they found all of those prescription medications, the Autopsy revealed that she did not abuse drugs, and that she took Anti-Siezure Meds and Hydrocodone. She was sharing them with her Mother.

Erin Black

You are 100% correct. And, I will keep your friends in my prayers.

Erin Black

Asia and B.J., if you two aren't already married, you need to get married, because you look like you truly understand each other and respect one another. I really enjoy seeing two people in sync with each other. Ya'll are great, and I have authority to say "ya'll", because I was born and raised in Kentucky. When I reached 32 years old, I left Kentucky. I was in Indiana (hated it) for 2 years, in Kansas City, KS (didn't like it) for 2 years, Kansas City, MO (didn't like it), and Los Angeles, CA (didn't like it) for 4 months. I have put down roots in Colorado now. I have been here for over 5 years, and it is beautiful, so I don't plan on ever moving again, unless I have to, due to emergency.

Erin Black

Yeah, Angelina's bangs were awful in this movie...Lol. What is even worse: My Grandmother on my Mom's side, repeatedly did this to my bangs from ages 2-5, if not longer. My Mom used to get so mad. Lol. Then, my Grandmother on my Dad's side did this a couple of times to me in Elementary School. I remember one time, she cut my bangs so short in Middle School, that you might as well have said, that I had no bangs at all. It was so horrible, because I got made fun of for 2 or 3 whole months, until they grew back. Plus, I couldn't just go home after school to get away from the embarrassment, because I had to stay after for my Sport's Practices. And, I had braces on my teeth and chapped lips (from running up and down the Soccer Field repeatedly, in the cold air). I can look back and laugh now, but at the time, I was so upset, and my Grandmother could tell, as soon as I looked in the mirror, how upset I was. I never let her cut my hair again. Lol. I miss both of my Grandmothers dearly.

Pink Martini AZ

I don’t think anyone was making her feel crazy. On the contrary. She was already going down a destructive path all on her own. Sleeping during your graduation is clearly a sign of depression. She talked about death a lot. Like with her boyfriend that night. Her injured hand. That’s self harm. She thought she didn’t have bones in her hand. That’s delusional. Attempting suicide. That’s the mother of all depression and self harm. She engaged in risky behavior like not only sleeping around but sleeping with her parents married friend. If my kid was doing all that, I’d be getting her help too. Great film. I have always really liked Winona Ryder. She was quite the popular little star in the 80’s and 90’s.

Wendy Garner

Great cast here, the girl who played Daisy is Brittney Murphy from 8 mile, Clueless and many others. Also the girl who plays Polly is the lead actress from The Handmaid's Tale, Elizabeth Moss.

Dana

Thank you VIP Ross! Great film! Fab reaction as always.

Rebecca Karsner

I really hope they do Requiem for a Dream someday. Such a tough film to watch but all the performances are amazing.. especially Ellen Burstyn!! :)

Rich

Decent! My Friday night sorted 👍

Ross Johnston

It was in the 60’s and a mental institution at that. The writers did their job and created a script that at that time could’ve very well and probably happened. Do I condone it, no! It’s a bigot Song that causes people to feel pain, angst, anger. I requested this movie because it’s an amazing movie that shows life in the 60’s in a hospital for people that need help mentally. Why should the writers white wash history. You tell the story as it was at that time. Period. Otherwise, life would be perfect and we would all be lying down in a field of daisies, singing Kumbaya, My Lord while holding hands. Not all movies are comedy or bow down to what is politically correct in 2024 (or 1999) at the time. It’s a reflection of where we have been as humans, Americans. FFS, 🤦‍♂️ I have a coupon code for a discount on the Disney channel, if that’s more of your liking.

🖤Bonita☆

Asia is so empathetic. You call tell she feels deeply and connects to others emotions. ❤️

Kimberly Tyda

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this yet - Angelina Jolie won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in this.

Dan Gonya

I must have been really young when I saw this the first time cuz I never noticed it took place in a different era.

Dan Gonya

Yes, Brittany Murphy was in 8 Mile along with Clueless and a bunch of other random stuff.

Dan Gonya

I had to be in a detox facility before I sobered up and it was very similar to this kinda place. To say it wasn't much fun would be an understatement.

MichelleMyBell

Rip Brittay Murphy. Married To The Mob w Michelle Pfeiffer is a good movie so is True Lies w Jamie Lee Curtis . The Birds is a great movie also. Thank You Asia and BJ for all that you do.

Michele G

That’s such a tough movie to watch. Idk if they could handle that lol. It’s one of my favorites though. Ellen’s performance is something that floats around my head till this day !! So so so good !!! And the look on that guy’s face as he says ass to ass 😖😖

MichelleMyBell

Girl, Interrupted is a best-selling 1993 memoir by American author Susanna Kaysen, relating her experiences as a young woman in an American psychiatric hospital in the 1960s after being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.

Dan Gonya

I like Whoopi Goldberg so much better for being an excellent actress and not whatever the heck person she is on the View. She is so talented, but I just don't agree with most of her political and social opinions and beliefs. But to each their own.

MichelleMyBell

Character of Tobey is by actor / singer Jared Leto and character of Polly is by actress Elisabeth Moss.

MichelleMyBell

Asia&BJ please react to Changeling (2008) its a true story Directed by Cljnt Eastwood and starring Angelina Jolie.

Heather

Yes Asia & BJ please react to the Changeling! I have requested it before, it is a fantastic movie. It's on my Ultimate ViP request list for when I win the lottery.

Darth Brooks

Their True Lies reaction was great!

DEE SEE

Lost in Vegas just blocked me on their Patreon, because I told them that they weren't posting enough for me to be on their Discord. Wow. I appreciate the effort that Asia and Bj put into their channel.

Rebecca Karsner

I actually have an autographed photo of Ellen Burstyn in this film! It is a prized possession of mine. At the rate that Asia and Bj put out movies, we are bound to get it someday. I actually still want to upgrade to ultimate VIP and maybe do it every now and then. Can't afford to every month, even though I'd love to. 😁

Rebecca Karsner

Changeling is fantastic!! Despite how people feel about Angelina Jolie personally.. she is a fantastic actress. I love that she is doing Humanitarian work now and helping shed light on issues in other countries. 😁

Josh

That's because it's not that big of a deal, it's a movie regarding mental patients and that's your main concern? 💀

Erin Black

I made that comment, because Asia looked shocked, just as I did. This is not the place to argue, and I refuse to argue. I am way more mature than that. Why did you take time out of your day to be negative to someone that you don't even know. And, I know all about mental institutions. I have Bipolar Disorder, Extreme PTSD, Anxiety Disorder, Extreme OCD, and an Antisocial Disorder that is so bad that, I don't even leave my house. I have been in institutions for those disorders, and I have also had to detox in those places. I am over 5 years sober now, and it is not because of any institution that I went to. I did it on my own. However, those places do help some people, and I am glad that they do. People that are filled with hate and negativity are the people that caused me to become Antisocial. And, right now, you trying to start an argument for no reason and being judgemental towards me, in my opinion, is being one of those people, and it is completely unacceptable. I wrote the comment to Asia and B.J., so if you didn't like my comment, you should have just scrolled down and ignored it. GOD is the only being that has the right to judge me. I have attempted suicide, I was an Addict/Alcoholic for 20 years, plus I have a ton of chronic physical health problems that keep me in bed all day. I am about to graduate college and become a Drug/Alcohol Counselor, because I want to help people, and I would also like to get a degree in Christian Studies, and Expertise in Arms and Armor. Anyways, I am done with this conversation. It is over. The comment wasn't for you. It was for them. Have a nice day. Please, don't be hateful to people you don't know. Go outside and get some fresh air. Go watch a Sunset or a Sunrise. Be kind and giving to someone you don't know...Just hand over 100 dollars to a stranger. If you are kind, GOD will be kind to you. GOD bless you. And, I don't want a response back. Thank you. Take care.

Brien

You guys should check out 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest'. It also takes place in a psychiatric hospital. <3

Ozzy24

I forgot how good this movie is...MAN!..Thank-you guys really enjoyed that.

KimM

Great suggestion with Jack Nicholson, no one else could do a better job in the movie!!

Erin Black

I wrote a really long comment the other day about Brittany Murphy's death, and how her Husband died 5 months later. You should definately check out the Documentary on HBO Max about her death. I was unaware of how weird and controlling her Husband was, and I did not know that he asked her to marry him, when he was having trouble with immigration. He also refused an Autopsy on her, but they went ahead and did one. They found over 90 pill bottles on his side of the bed alone, and some of them had alias names on them. They found a bunch on her side of the bed as well, but not as many as 90. The Autopsy on Brittany revealed that, she did not abuse drugs, and thst she was on Anti-Siezure Meds and Hydrocodone. However, the drug intoxication only made her other ailments worse. She shared them with her Mother. Her Husband's Autopsy revealed the same thing: He did not abuse drugs, and that he was taking meds for a respiratory infection. He had been taking large amounts of Prescription Drugs, but they ruled that out as a direct cause of death. Even though I have seen photos of there being mold in the house, the Coroner said there was no evidence of mold spores in the lungs. BRITTANY AND SIMON DIED IN THE SAME BATHROOM, 5 MONTHS APART. Winona Ryder The woman that played Susanna Kaysen in this movie), was very good friends with Brittany Murphy, and after Brittany died, she refused to ever watch this movie again. After Brittany died, her Husband and Mother got really close (close in a weird, creepy, eerie way). You can see some of their creepy interactions on the Documentaries and on "Larry King Live". You should watch that. It was very eerie. All I know, is that this is a complete tragedy.

Mami's Gatos

The book is incredible and has way more detail. This was a true story. The real Susanna wrote the book. She says in the book years later, she ran into Lisa at a store and Lisa seemed to be doing well and had a little boy. They were cordial and went their separate ways and she never saw her again after that.

Mami's Gatos

Angelina's inner mama bear came out in that movie. Thise police and hospital workers were VILE!

Dan Gershgol

I had heard of this movie but had not seen the movie until now. Very good story.

Ross Johnston

Thank you A&B for watching my recommendation. I apologize for taking so long to comment!!! BIG MAJOR THANK YOU FOR THE SHOUT OUT! OMG! Y'all are cray. I truly enjoyed watching this movie with y'all and didn't realize it would be so emotional. But that's what watching movies is all about, right? Immersing yourself in that place, time, event...feel like you are there, experiencing and feeling right along with the characters. I love ya A&B xoxo. Y'all ready for this Texas summer knocking on our doorstep?

Rebecca Karsner

Thanks again for making this your VIP pick! I've literally watched this twice already on here!! One of my favorite movies!! So glad Asia and Bj loved it too ❤️

Trish Belshe

I really love this movie and it’s relatable for me bc of my neuro-spicey brain. I have a couple of great movie suggestions: “Kalifornia” with Brad Pitt , Juliette Lewis and David Duchovny. Kind of scary, but definitely twisted and you get invested in the characters right away. Also the movie “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf”. Another B&W movie that’s so good. It’s got Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Totally a great movie. I hope you watch both. Love you guys.

Miss Melissa

Love this movie and just finished watching with you guys. One thing I thing to touch on about this subject is that back in those days, people especially young women were put needlessly into psychiatric hospitals and tucked away from society for the smallest deviation from the norm. Although we didn't get to know too much about the supporting characters, I think there is something to be said about their "maladies" and why they were there. Is being through the trauma of being burned in a fire a reason to be put away? What about being a pathological liar? Or a lesbian? Or promiscuous? These girls don't follow the rules of society so let's get them out of it - jail essentially. We did see some who clearly needed to be there, Lisa, for example, and Daisy, who was done a major disservice by the ward for letting her out and failing to recognize the issues that Lisa saw so clearly. Not that Lisa was right for saying what she did. And as far as Susanna goes, being borderline definitely does not warrant being in a psych ward for years on end. It's a condition similar to depression, bipolar, etc, that can be managed with therapy and medication in an outpatient setting.

Lina D

That particular psychiatric facility is called McClean and it's actually a facility that I've been to before (I was in for depression, Borderline which is not at ALL like they portrayed it in the film, and an eating disorder). Those tunnels in the basement are absolutely a real thing and people do absolutely run around in the tunnels at night 😂. If you take one of the East tunnels there's like a daycare for the children of employees but it is the creepiest place I've ever seen in my life there's just like old dirty kids toys in this basement hallway of a psych ward it's deeply creepy. This film is a hard watch for me because of my own experiences and everything that I went through but it's also really interesting to see a place that I have lived be on such a famous film. Thank you for watching this film and thank you for showing it the respect and attention that it deserves I appreciate that you do that in every single one of your reactions. It's why we love y'all ❤️

Leslie Engel

Thank you for this comment. I came to write about this issue as well.
