Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Comments

Jay Rivera

The closest shave you’ll ever have 🩸

Edgar Gonzalez

Johnny depp musical. The Demon barber of Fleet Street.. Sweeny Todd! I thought it was ok, but a lot of people did like it. So let's check this one out... There are very few tim Burton musicals i like. I still think that " A nightmare before Christmas" was his best musical.

Jay Rivera

Great flick. Tim Burton forever!

Rebecca Karsner

Omg I love this movie!! Me and my friends used to sing the song like "I peel you... BANANA" 🤣🤣 Can't wait to watch later!

Nicole Sherlock

Awesome!! Loving all these musicals lately!! 💛🙏

iShihTzuNot

Omg. I just freaked out. I LOVE this movie. Let me pop my popcorn first. I haven’t even had dinner yet.

The_Paige_Master

I do love this movie and the stage version is good too except I think the ending is slightly different

Dan Gonya

Gander, as in take a gander, meaning to look at something. Tuepine was mad at Anthony for simply looking at Joanna.

sharkey197

His wife went crazy after she recovered from the vpoison and Mrs Lovett didnt tell him because she wanted him. When he realized what had happened he took his revenge on her.

Mikey

i’ve seen this movie only once back when it came out so i’ll basically be watching it for the first time again witchu guys😎 can’t wait!

Von

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REACT TO SCREAM 4 🙏💛🙏

carlos

Throughout the entire movie I can only see Andy singing "I feel you Johanna."

David Croft-Ogawa

Miss Asia, you were correct! Alan Rickman played Professor Snape from the Harry Potter movies. I saw this on Broadway back in the 90’s, and I’ve been a Stephen Sondheim fan ever since. Please continue your journey with musicals. There are many, many great Sondheim shows on film. I recommend Gypsy, Westside Story, and Into the Woods. Great reactions as always! And thank you VIP for the recommendation.

Charlieeee

ooo yes, Gypsy with Imelda Staunton as Rose! Also if they do West Side i hope to god its the 1961 version

David Croft-Ogawa

I really like that song, and my other favorite is “Pretty Women.” The stage show version has better harmonies, but the movie version is fine.

Dan Gonya

I'm in the middle of this reaction and I can't tell whether or not Asia and BJ realize that they are cooking people into the pies... So far they haven't mentioned it out loud. I could very well be wrong of course. Edit: okay, they got it. 😂

David Croft-Ogawa

Yes! I agree entirely with you. 1961 version is the best!

Dan Gonya

His wife went crazy from taking arsenic. Mrs Lovett knew she survived. Alan Rickman was also in Harry Potter. Professor Snape.

carlos

Also, Alan Rickman's henchman is Timothy Spall, also known for being Ron's rat (Peter Pettigrew) in Harry Potter.

iShihTzuNot

I was also concerned they weren’t catching on to people in the pies

Katie Davis

He killed his wife, unknowingly, thinking it was a homeless woman who knew too much and was in the way. Mrs. Lovett had told the truth when she said Lucy (his wife) had poisoned herself, but she didn't die. Mrs. Lovett was infatuated with Barker/Todd and didn't want him to know his wife was still alive and around.

Eamonn Locke

Great movie! Haven't seen it in a while.

Dan Gershgol

Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall were all in Harry Potter. Been a fan of this movie ever since it came out. Eventually I got around to seeing the play production. It was really great.

Janice B CPhT

There were 3 actors from the main Harry Potter series in this: The judge (Professor Snape), Beadle (Peter Pettigrew aka Ron's rat) and Mrs. Lovett (Bellatrix Lestrange). Johnny Depp & Jamie Campbell Bower (the guy who was on the ship with Depp, rescued Johanna) were both in newer Harry Potter-world movies that took place prior to Harry's story. Jamie Bower is also Vecna (or 001) in Stranger Things.

Janice B CPhT

Omg yes! Other than the performance he gave in the office to "advertise" 🤣

Janice B CPhT

And I, 💀, the 🎃 👑... I love TNBC and the music! Danny Elfman FTW!

ZealValHarriah

Wow I was gonna eventually request this one myself. Thanks VIP!

ZealValHarriah

This is based off a Musical in the London west end. I'm pretty sure it's based of a true story in Victorian times.

ZealValHarriah

Asia is right Alan Rickman was Snape in Harry Potter aswell.

ZealValHarriah

Also she was S*xu**ly assaulted at the party.

ZealValHarriah

She also went crazy from being assaulted at the party.

ZealValHarriah

He wanted to die at the end because he knew he killed his wife that's why he didn't stop Toby. He almost killed his daughter by accident too.

Alex

Benjamin Barker was 'transported'. Back then, they would send criminals to Australia. That's why he came in on a boat at the beginning. Earlier in the movie, Mrs Lovett tells Sweeney that his wife Lucy had taken poison when the daughter was taken. He assumed she had died, but she had gone crazy. That's why he threw her in the furnace at the end, for not telling him the whole story.

Kyle Knapp

Never know with them lol. I’m still not convinced they knew he killed his wife . SMH lol

Cynthia M Farrington

Great movie for Halloween! I enjoyed watching it with you guys. It’s been a long time since I first saw it and I saw the stage version at our local theater.

Cynthia M Farrington

Wow! That is a dark thought. It was a very interesting time period in London history. So much crime and poverty and political corruption.

Tony Uthe

Michele G

Vecna!!!????? I knew he looked familiar!!!!

Dan Gonya

Oh wow! I totally missed the Vecna thing!

Janice B CPhT

Oh that is a such a good show, too!

Richard Zinns

The musical is based on 18th century serialized magazine story called The String of Pearls. There have been many adaptations since then, of which this is by far the most famous. The judge and the beadle, as well as Todd's wife and daughter and the revenge plot, are not in the original story, where Todd's motive is simply to rob his customers and profit by providing meat for Mrs. Lovett's pies; but the original story does feature the barber chair that tips over and dumps the corpses down a chute, as well as a young sailor who is in love with a girl named Johanna (no relation to Todd), and a boy named Tobias who comes to know too much.

I know I am late so I don't know if you will see this. Mrs. Lovett, when she first met Todd, told him his wife drank poison, but did not tell him that she lived. Although the poison did not kil her, between the poison and what happened at the party she was mentally destroyed which led her to the homeless woman state she was in. In the Broadway version, Antony and Todd meets the begger woman when they first step off the boat in which she says the same thing, hey, don't I know you mister? When she meets Todd in the barbershop, that her last words before he kills her. Asia you were right, Alan Rickman is snape in Harry potter
