Awesome! Excellent movie to end the season on. You guys were pretty much spot on - the "smile" latches onto people who have had serious past trauma because they're vulnerable. The first female victim mentioned that the "smile" sometimes looks like her grandfather that died in front of her when she was 7, just like how Rose watched her Mom die when she was 10. There were multiple mentions about how trauma never leaves a person, you can only find ways to manage it. The "smile" latches onto a person with severe trauma, and slowly wears them down until it can find its next victim (who is also vulnerable due to severe trauma), usually 4-7 days. Then it possesses them, kills them, then transfers. You guys caught onto a lot of good stuff too, the upside down shots to show her life being turned upside down / being disoriented, that "going down the rabbit hole" shot through the window, the smiley faces you see throughout the film, etc. There's a few other details you guys mentioned but I can't recall all of them.. Since you guys really liked the movie, I would HIGHLY recommend watching Smile 2, it's faster paced and generally considered the stronger of the two. Happy Halloween!! 👻

Great movie. I felt anxious for y'all watching along. When she asks the entity "why are you doing this to me?" and it says "because your mind is so inviting" I feel that is absolutely saying that because of her past trauma with her mom that it was easy for it to attach itself to her. Which also ties into what the prisoner who killed the random woman to get out said it "feeds on trauma". And of course there is a Smile 2 which is also great. in the end of the movie when Joel sees her self immolate you can infer that it has now latched onto him...

You're overthinking it with Carl. He's just a non-violent mentally ill man and he was a regular patient before Rose was cursed. Asia is on the right track with the trauma. The entity usually chooses to make the person kill themselves in-front of someone who has already experienced some trauma in their personal lives. Like the one victim, Gabriel, his wife said he never got over his brother's death 20 years ago, and the entity likely chose him because it picks individuals who are ripe with trauma. Also, Laura (the girl who gave the curse to Rose at the begging) mentioned her grandfather died in-front of her when she was seven. The victim picking process is calculated. The second one maintains the same theme of trauma.

U right Asia. So Carl is just a reg patient. The mom was just shown to show us why she had trauma and the thing attached to her easily because she still had trauma that thing only took over ppl with trauma basically

When I worked at a mental health center if a kid said they heard or saw things the therapists usually wouldn’t rule out ghosts. Most, if not all of them, were deemed to have some kind of psychosis, but the ghost/haunted house questions were asked. thought that was cool.

Smile 2 is, in my opinion, actually better. It took what this film did, ramped it up, and created something refreshing and unique. It centers around a pop star, and I think even the music of the fictional pop star is good. Please consider it!
