Patron Lottery Winner!

Comments

Edgar Gonzalez

Well, here is the winner for this months lottery Fam. Almost Famous, Starring: Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson, Patrick Fugit and Jason Lee This movie came out in the year 2000, but i was in mexico then, and didn't see it till it was on dvd in 2002 when I came back. I love that it took place in the early 1970's, because the 70's were HUGE for rock. Aerosmith, AC/DC, Eagles, Ramones, Lynyrd Skynyrd (To name a few) and of course the ultimate rock band LED ZEPPELIN. Rock has changed over the years, but one thing for sure is that, Rock N Roll can NEVER die. Now lets kick back, and check out this awesome reaction fam!

Darth Brooks

Son in Law is a wacky Thanksgiving set comedy starring Paulie Shore. Check it out! 😂

Amy Spears

Thanksgiving movie - Miracle on 34 St. (1947) starts at the thanksgiving day parade and is an amazing movie. Its right up there with It's a Wonder Life.

Rebecca Karsner

Cant wait to watch when I get home! My job just sent me to Minnesota and now Im in Iowa.. like can't I be sent somewhere warm? 😂😂 HAPPY SATURDAY EVERYONE 🩷💚

Michele G

Finally. Woo hoo!!!!!

Elizabeth DeMerie

Kinda lived the penny lane life in the early 1990s touring with a few bands, just following the music minus the groupie/band aid type of activities... lol I was 16 and did that till I was 18. Then I went home.... and this movie brings back a ton of memories

Jay Rivera

Stoked! I’ve seen Kate in the flesh a few times and put this off. I’m in.

asiaandbj

Hey Caitlin!! Thank you so much for entering this movie in this month's Patreon Pick. Great movie with a good cast and classic music. Almost Famous did not disappoint at all!

Dan Gonya

That IS 1970s Dwight Schrute. 😂🤣

Abel Salas Jr

This movie is the semi-autobiographical account of the director Cameron Crowe's experience as a teenager journalist for Rolling Stone. The band Stillwater is a composit of several of the bands he followed.

Caitlin O'Connell

Heyy!! I’m so glad you enjoyed. Part of the reason that the soundtrack is so amazing is because a lot of the bands/artists had worked with the director, Cameron Crowe (the real William Miller) so they let him the use the songs at a serious discount / for free.

Eddie Munzter

How can you tell? I'm just one of the out of focus guys. 😂

Eddie Munzter

Hey BJ the British guy who was the bands manager is the same dude who cut off Jaime Lannisters hand in Game of Thrones. That's where you know him from.

Dan Gonya

I hate to break it to you guys, but Stillwater isn't a real band...well it was, but it wasn't this band. The movie band Stillwater is fictional.

TJ Harrington

This is one of my favs so here’s a breakdown: So Almost Famous is basically Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiography. When he was a teenager, he actually toured with real bands like The Allman Brothers, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd while writing for Rolling Stone. The band Stillwater isn’t real — they’re a blend of those groups and a few other 70s rock personalities he met on the road. A lot of the wild stuff in the movie really did happen to Crowe in some form. Fun Facts: - Russell Hammond is partly inspired by Glenn Frey (The Eagles) and Duane Allman. - The “I am a golden god!” moment is literally something Robert Plant yelled from a hotel balcony.

Dustin

SWEET!!! FINALLY!!! I've been requesting this movie, submitting it in polls, and entering it in the lottery for at least the last year and a half. One of my all time favorite movies!! So glad we finally got this one! I can't wait for their reaction! Jumping in now...

MacGuffinStuff

Fast Times At Ridgemont High, I'm kind of new here, I don't think you've seen that one so I'm gonna recommend it. And SINGLES. Cameron Crowe was the kid and he like embedded himself in a California high school in the early 80s and what he learned was written into Fast Times, with cameos you have to look close, I'm not gonna spoil it, lot of famous actors, very young at Ridgemont High... And Singles is Cameron Crowe versus Seattle right when Grunge was the thing, several Seattle bands are literally IN the movie, but it's not about the scene, it's really just about some single people, but it's a fun movie, for real.

Gavin Reid

"I am a golden God" Jack Black is awesome in this

CD

Yay!!!! Gonna watch this one tonight 🤩

Raider Ron

This was a great watch with you guys.

Raider Ron

Penny Lane is a Beatles song.

Poopy McDoodooface

Penny Lane is a Beatles song 🎵 Another great movie and great reactions 👏 👌 👍 😀 😄 🙌

Darth Brooks

Alright fam it's year 3 of the holiday season on patreon and we need them to finally check out Hook this year. Let's go!

Michele Pérez

The character of Penny Lane is played by Kate Hudson. Kate Hudson‘s mother is Goldie Hawn and her father is Bill Hudson. Bill Hudson is also a singer. He played in a band with his brothers called the Hudson Brothers. Her mother Goldie is a triple threat. She can sing, she can act and she can dance. Her relationship with her father hasn’t always been the best. She was predominantly raised by Goldie and Kurt Russell. Who played Wyatt Earp in Tombstone.

Michele Pérez

Cameron Crowe, the writer and director of this film. The film is semi-autobiographical, based on Crowe's experiences as a teenage writer for Rolling Stone. He was once married to Nancy Wilson from the rock band Heart. They were married for 24 years.

Michele Pérez

Elvis was born in Tupelo Mississippi. Moved to Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 7 with his family.

Miss Melissa

Please watch Son in Law for Thanksgiving! 🙏🦃

Miss Melissa

You guys got it backwards. The “real” element of this movie wasn’t Stillwater (completely made up band) but the story of a teenage rock journalist (based on director/writer Cameron Crowe’s real life experiences). The Stillwater Rolling Stone cover was made up for the movie. Stillwater’s music in the movie was written by Nancy Wilson of Heart who was married to director/writer Cameron Crowe at the time. Phenomenal movie. Glad you guys enjoyed.

Michele Pérez

Cameron Crowe also co-wrote a movie called. We Bought A Zoo which is also based on true events. It stars, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and the young man that played William in Almost Famous. However, he is older and taller 😉. It’s a lovely story about a widowed father who buys an 18 acre property with a desperately needed renovated zoo. It’s one of my favorite Matt Damon films. Touching.

Paula Turner

can't tell if you realize that IS the guy that plays Dwight Schroot (Rainn Wilson)

Paula Turner

btw-Billy Crudup is Russell in this movie. He is also in the movie "Sleepers" that I keep recommending for you guys to react to.

Dustin

Jack Black?

Michele Pérez

Excellent film! Incredible cast… Brad Pitt Robert De Niro Dustin Hoffman Jason Patrick Kevin Bacon Mini Driver Billy Crudup Wendell Pierce

CD

Great reaction! So glad you guys saw this one, so many great threads in this one that ties in the rock and roll stuff from the 70s. soundtrack alone to this one is worth the watch. (and the parallels b/t this story and allman bros, skynard, and all the rest is so good) And agree Asia and BJ, the group is better when it stays together!. Great movie!

Amber

So glad you watched. This is my all time favorite movie and makes me cry happy tears every time. For people who feel this exact way about music, this movie is such a beautiful illustration of what that feeling is. Hats off to Nancy Wilson - rockstar in her own right. And Penny Lane is the name of a Beatles song.

Alexander Escarciga

Director Cameron Crowe created the fictional band Stillwater in the movie Almost Famous, a composite of several bands he toured with, including the Eagles and Led Zeppelin. The name "Stillwater" was borrowed with permission from a real, but obscure, southern rock band from Georgia that was active in the 1970s, which had no relationship to the movie's plot. The real Stillwater had a minor hit called "Mind Bender" but never achieved the level of fame depicted in the film.

Paula Turner

should have waited before posting-was so fun to see you all put it together.

dedknedy

This movie was just okay. I watched it a long time ago. It had some great moments but I thought it was a bit long and boring.

Venner

Dang, forgot how good this was.

David Croft-Ogawa

Great reactions and discussion as always! I love that you guys really pay attention. If you want a great New Year’s film to watch with Kate Hudson and a lot of other stars, see “100 Cigarettes.”

Gavin Reid

OH WAIT thats right it was Hoffman, haha it looks and sounds like Jack....always thought it was him lol....anyway a great character

dedknedy

Remember when you used to watch The Office? j/k but seriously you guys should binge more episodes of the office. Like maybe today. Or tomorrow? You love it, we love it. Lets go!

Eddie Munzter

I just watched the new John Candy documentary John Candy: I Like Me, it's really well done! Everyone showed up - Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Steve Martin, most of the Second City actors like Eugene Levy and Catherine O'hara and even McCauley Culkin made an appearance. I highly recommend it!

Soph

I literally stayed up til 4 am last night expecting it hahaha

Jon Jon

to me the title of almost famous can apply to penny lane William and the band just maybe in their own ways

Aaron

Asia and BJ groovin on Elton John. This is why I love you guys. So awesome.

Matthew Folz

"So Matt... what do you love about this movie?" "To begin with? Everything" One of my all time favorite movies. Wish you would have done the director's cut but still an amazing reaction. A couple fun facts: 1. This is actually based off Cameron Crowe's (The writer and director) life. He was a 15 year old who wrote for Rolling Stone and went on tour with Led Zeppelin. 2. Both Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand were nominated for Academy Awards for their performances. Unfortunately they kind of split votes between each other so neither won. As good as McDormand was, man I wish Hudson would have won. Also, if you want to watch another great (But radically different) performance by Billy Crudup... check out the movie Sleepers.

Caitlin O'Connell

I always end up connecting the cast from one movie to another, so if they ever do watch Sleepers, I hope it leads them to Brad Renfro (who plays the young Brad Pitt. Also RIP Brad) and that they react to "The Cure" (1995) at some point.

Ricky Bobby

Thanksgiving-ish movie suggestion: “Scent of a Woman” as it takes place over Thanksgiving weekend.

Fervent Fox

Are you guys gonna react to the new season of Stranger Things?

PacMac

Why would they? Only Season 1 was worth watching, it was fresh and nostalgic, everything else turned into audience pandering and kitsch

Dan Gershgol

Saw this a long time ago. Good movie.

Red

got messed up I was thinking this was the comedy Almost Heroes
