Alright patrons, this way! ♥Read the update first, then come back here!I had to split the chapter into two parts, the file was too heavy to read on PC (but totally fine on phone… makes no sense 😭)---
It’s always so hard to get any distance from the pages I’ve just worked on! I can only really appreciate my work the month after haha.So many things to say but I'll late you complete my comment!!!
I really hope the whole scene flows well, and that the shots land the way they’re supposed to…! Tell me everything, what do these moments make you feel?
I think when you’re reading something and the author’s doing a decent job, you don’t really notice that the pacing, the framing, the angles, the way the dialogue is spread out… are all just one choice among countless possibilities haha. There are always a thousand ways to tell the same scene, and I’m always hoping I picked one of the best…!
You know I’ve always preferred not giving direct access to the characters’ thoughts, it’s kind of my signature at this point. You’re meant to feel things through the words, the gestures, the looks… So these fragments from the Boy’s journal (which are written in past tense, did you notice?) are placed very deliberately. They usually mark important moments for him. He’s going through his emotional awakening in this story, with Tera, and he tells it through those fragments. In theory, there should be some between chapters too.
Here, and it might sound a bit trivial, I also wanted you to understand how Tera feels in that moment. To really contrast with the previous chapter. He goes from the club, where he isn’t wanted, where he’s basically hunted, forced to defend himself and destroy… to being in the boy’s arms, something soft, welcoming. Loving.
That’s what his heartbeat says: “Grounded, slow.” He’s calm. He’s home. And that “home” isn’t a place, it’s a person. And it’s probably the first time he’s ever felt that.
“I’m so tired” isn’t just a statement, it’s a confession. He probably says it very quietly.I don’t even know how to fully explain it, but I know he needed that moment, curled up next to the Boy. That’s what his “I’m so tired” really means. He’s not just physically tired.
Also, the pose on the bed kind of breaks the connection a bit. It wasn’t the original idea (who knows, it might change). They were supposed to be turned toward each other, in silence. But the current version makes the transition smoother from that intimate moment to the stomach growling. Not sure if that makes sense haha.
Side note: this is also where my love for male necks shows up lol. I’m literally the kind of person who keeps touching my boyfriends’ necks. That’s also why I don’t really like showing my work to people close to me. A story always reveals something about its author, in one way or another. The way these characters express affection fits them, of course, but it’s also an intimate projection.
What’s your favorite scene from chapter 16?More broadly, I feel like the star scene (chapter 13) really stuck with a lot of you, which I totally get! Now I’m curious if this one beats it haha.
Because for me, that moment where Tera presses his face against the Boy, and the panel right after, even if it's short… it shows such a strong connection! And it’s something they’re both seeking, too. It’s powerfulI keep thinking about all the messages I get like “I hope they kiss someday!!” / “I’m waiting for the kiss”And honestly, I think this scene is even stronger than that. It’s stripped of physical desire, it’s just two souls finding each other!---
Unrelated but: should I bring back a FAQ? Would you like that?
Anyway, I can’t wait to read your comments, your thoughts, your analyses… go off!!! 💛
