Important Notice - New US Customs Policy (Patreon)

1. A new US customs policy has been announced, eliminating the exemption for shipments under $800 (also known as "de minimis").

This policy will take effect immediately after August 29th.

2. Therefore, I will ship all US packages before August 29th.

** All Secret Shop orders have also been shipped.

3. The address change deadline is August 15th, so please make sure to confirm your address before then! I plan to ship all packages between the 16th and the 19th.(KST)

4. What happens after the new customs policy takes effect (from August 29th)?

All packages from Korea arriving in the US will be subject to a minimum duty of $80 (or 15% but I'm not sure!)

As you know, I live in South Korea, manufacture all my products there, and ship from here.

I saw an article saying this was originally scheduled for 2027 but was suddenly moved up. I just learned about this myself, and honestly, everything is so confusing 😭

The only thing I can do right now is to ship the packages sooner🔥🔥🔥🔥

5. Due to this new change, there may be an important announcement in September or October. (It could be a tier reorganization or a change to the round system...everything is not certain yet!)

So, just to make you aware. Its hit with the tariffs if it arrives from August 29th onward. Its not based on the date it was shipped. Besides how bonkers this policy is, this less than a month warning is also going to cause people to get hit with fees for items that may have shipped in advance of the policy change. It absolutely sucks. I don't know how long it takes for the items from you to arrive off to top of my head, but anything not already shipped might just be screwed. Items are also getting the $80-200 flat fee so they dont have to do the work of calculating the tariff for the next 6 months (because they literally do not have the man power do it). So by March, I think, we should be getting charged the 15% instead of some flat free range.

Yes, I use air shipping, so if I ship between the 16th and 19th, it should arrive in the US on the 20th or 21st. If package arrive in the US before the 29th, wouldn't it be safe because I'll arrive before the new policy takes effect?

Yes, it should be safe as long as its processed through customs before the 29th. Which, no one has any control over the processing speed of customs beyond customs. I do expect they are processing things as fast as possible though. Its just that I've seen a lot of "shipped by August 29th" from people, and that's not the case at all since it depend on when custom's gets their hands on it, not on the package ship date. I do appreciate you rushing these out, that is beyond amazing of you. Things have been insane here and we have no idea what change is coming next and the fact that its having such a huge impact on the international businesses too just extra sucks. I know this whole change is being brought to court so hopefully he doesn't stick and we can go back to tariff free imports under $800 until at least 2027. Though, I don't have high hopes.

Yes, that's right. Common sense tells me it should be fine if it arrives in the US august 29th before. I just found out about this new policy yesterday morning at the Korean Post Office. They told me to be careful because sea mail, not airplane mail, arrives after 29th. There's no news about it in the local media, so it's a shame I found out late 😂 - Still, It's good to I found out before it was too late.

Thank you for all your hard work and consideration! Everyone I know here in the U.S. thinks these tariff rules are terrible. It’s even worse because Trump keeps changing his mind and moving tariff dates and rates around as he pleases. It’s scary here and I hate that it is affecting creators like you. I am so sorry that my country's inability to keep our worst members in check is making such a mess for you. It might be possible going forward to find a US distributor, where you send them one big package that has all of our envelopes in it, and then they open the package and put all the envelopes in the mail. That way, there is only 1 customs fee, I think?

Yes, there are such services in Korea and the US... but considering the cost of individual fees + customs duties, the price is too much. I looked into it when I was looking for a shipping method during the COVID-19 pandemic 😭

Every time I begin to write something, it turns into a wall of text reminding people how to keep going and working to not only stop what is happening now, but how to change it. What the people with power in the US government are doing is wrong on many levels. Those of us in positions to make a stand are disorganized, with a leader lacking the skills to do more than be polite. It is frustrating to say the least, and honestly terrifying living in the modern equivalent of 1930s Germany. Still, many people and politicians are working to stop what is happening and resume a better course not only for US citizens, but for our allied nations. Including small businesses like yours. Unfortunately, the damage that is already done will take over a decade to repair. Things will become easier for international creators like you many years before they will for US citizens. Please keep going. Most likely, you will have to raise your prices. There might also be loopholes or exemptions for businesses that are not re-sellers (like those found on Amazon). It is at least worth looking into.

Thanks for the insight! It's hard to get a feel for the local scene from abroad, so reading this helped me get a feel for the situation. Thank you to everyone who works for the international community! I thought that if the tariff were around 10-20% instead of $80 per package.. next year, prices would go up a bit, but things would be okay. But as you said, it could take several years (hopefully not more than 10 years). All I can do is wait and hope things get better. Come to think of it, there was an international postage increase under the same administration about 4-5 years ago, and it hasn't changed since then... 😢 The future ahead~ US proportion is so high that it would be impossible to operate 6-month round physical tier system without the US 🥹 Anyway, I'll do my best to find out a way. 💦

I wish I knew /why/ the packages cost so much now. With previous tariffs, sending something like a normal greeting card to Canada cost me $30 last year and approximately $3 to send them within the US (mailing cards to Japan only cost me $8). Every year, the US postal service increases what it charges, but that is primarily done to ensure that wages and material costs are met. Aside from that, I do not know why the costs are very different country to country, or why there is a huge increase now (aside from governments and people doing their best to cover the cost of tariffs. That seems very, very high, though). Unfortunately, I am not on the board(s) that research and oversee postal concerns. This is an area that I need to look into. I feel very inadequately educated about this. I wish that I could help more. :(

I understand that changes sometimes occur due to various factors, such as national budgets or changes in government. Last year, our country was notified of a drastic change in tariffs, but the public backlash was so severe that it was withdrawn within a week 😅 I just hope there will be some clear guidance soon. Everything seems uncertain right now. Currently, the US-Korea tariff is 15%, but this number is constantly changing.

Hi! Unfortunately, I don't have a store like that. Hmm... If you're staying for more than a week, the post service might be able to ship it to your accommodation. Within Seoul, packages usually arrive within two days. However, It's case by case, so we will need to check with the hotel to see if they offer this service. - I just did a quick search and it seems like most hotels will accept packages at the counter.

For now, I'm planning to wait and see how things play out until early to mid-September. Nothing has been decided yet, but since everyone's circumstances are different, I don't think the membership will be automatically canceled. If you wish to remain my patreon, you can move to the digital tier. If you wish to leave, I would appreciate you can cancel after completing six months (6 x 8 = $48). All packages will be delivered next week, You should receive a tracking number within a few days. (I'm working hard on that right now!)

Thank you, Olivia! I received a call from the post office a few hours ago today, and they said shipping to the US has been suspended for all but the most expensive services. I was told it would be suspended until April, but I haven't heard anything specific yet, so I'm waiting for that. I'll share updates as they become available.

Thank you for this update! I was delighted to receive my package a few days ago. But to think this might be the last one for a while... God, that's bullshit. The millionaires who are running this country don't give a shit about anyone. They're taking our rights, our public services, our healthcare, and now....... our pikaole :'( can't have shit in America anymore... That being said, I'm not going anywhere! I'll pay you forever so I can receive packages when it becomes possible again, and I'll enjoy your themes and art in the meantime. Worst-case scenario, these idiots are only in office for the next.... 3 and a half years....... 🙃 But maybe they'll realize this was a terrible move sometime before then. I'm hoping it'll place enough strain on the postal system that they reasonably just can't make it work. But we'll see. On the bright side, I absolutely loooveeddd the bee & wasp envelope! I'm a huge wasp enthusiast 😍 I'm currently looking for the original art so I can read what all of them are LOL. Wondering whether one of them is the pipe-organ mud dauber or just something similar. Currently, shipping to the US from Korea is halted, but I'm still hopeful for some good news.. I'm also checking the forums for information on customs, but it seems very unstable right now. But this is probably because it's early days, and I think it will stabilize over time. I'm glad you like my wasp envelope.
