The dwarf pufferfish is one of my favorite fish, and I've drawn it some.

They are very, very small pufferfish.

It's been quite some time 😅

Anyway, I wanted to draw this fish again, so I started with a sketch.

I drew while watching this video~

【4K】Wild Dwarf pufferfish inhabiting agricultural water channel in Kerala, India

These are quite popular fish in aquariums, and I've seen them in tanks many times. It's really nice to see them in their natural habitat. Their vibrant colors and patterns are clearly visible in the aquarium, but in the wild, their colors seem very natural, and they seem to camouflage well.

I recently learned that their other name is "pea puffer," and it's such a cute name. Inspired by this, I'm thinking it would be even cuter if I drew them with some peas :D

Keywords: small, round, and cute

Yellow and green go together really well and are comfortable colors.

Their spotted patterns can be expressed in cute shapes like hearts or stars.

I thought about how to draw their eyes.

To emphasize its small, round shape, like a bean, I intentionally made the pectoral and dorsal fins smaller. The slightly protruding mouth area was cute...

I refined the lines for a coloring page later. Then, I roughly colored it in, following the color thumbnail. I can well imagine the feeling of completion :D I'll update the wallpaper when it's done.

Thank you!

These guys are my absolute FAVORITE!!! I’d love to have them available as stickers for text messages one day 🥹🥹

Hehe, thanks! You mean the imessage sticker pack? I'll have to include them when I update the freshwater fish pack later!

Michael Tsortos

Yes!! That is what I meant. It would be amazing if they were added to the freshwater pack!!!! Your drawings of the puffer fish are so adorable 🥰

Safa

oh!!! so small, cute, and round just like you said!!

pikaole

We love puffer fish 🙌💕 Thank you!

BarbarianLibrarian

So precious! I love the heart spots 🥰 A friend of mine has a kid who is obsessed with pufferfish so I crocheted a bunch for him in different sizes, apparently he brings at least one of them every day to preschool ❤️

pikaole

Thank you! I can't say exactly when is the update date, but I tend to update regularly once I think I have enough new images :D

pikaole

Yeah, how small they are, I've actually seen them eating in an aquarium and they were really cute.

pikaole

Oh... crocheted pufferfish...crocheted pufferfish!!!!!! That's really cool, I'm really bad at any kind of sewing, so I always think people who are good at crochet/knitting are amazing 💕It warms my heart to think of a little child have a crocheted pufferfish.

Leylara

Very adorable!!!

I have a pea puffer called pickle! Can't wait to see the finished designs. Would love a planner in this 💕

Candi

Oh these bring back memories. My first fish was a green spotted puffer who I eventually acclimated to saltwater, but I also kept pea puffers! Puffers are my favorite fish!

Gorgonbones

The little protrusion of the mouth really helps keep them looking like pufferfish. Especially when so simplified and compared to your other very round fish 💕

Tony Richmond

YES!!!!!! This is the PERFECT fish for your style I can't believe I never thought to suggest it!!

xodium

Well, before I got into sea slugs, puffers were hands down my favorite sea creature so that you’re doing this is awesome and they look so adorable.

pikaole

정말좋아하는 물고기에요~ 감사합니다~

pikaole

The name is so cute. Pickle! I haven't decided about next planner yet, but I usually use one of the drawings I finished that month to make next month's planner, so there's a 50/50 chance next month's planner will be a puffer fish 😁

pikaole

Both pufferfish and sea slugs are super cute. It's not a coincidence that we all like them, it's fate.

pikaole

I love round animals, and the pufferfish is absolutely perfect. I've drawn pufferfish a lot in the past! t's so nice to be able to do it again.

pikaole

Yeah, I like that little protruding part. This fish is so small that I intentionally omitted it, but I'm thinking about drawing the teeth next time I draw other pufferfish.💕

pikaole

They're very related! They even look very similar. I was interested in keeping them when i was young.I heard hey were supposed to be good in a slightly salty tank, but I gave up because I thought maintaining salty water would be difficult 😂

Candi

I've been keeping reef tanks for 20yrs almost now, moved my fish & corals across states a couple times it has been an adventure. It's getting harder as I get older, I run a 90g reef & a 24g reef now along with some smaller freshwater shrimp tanks. I have a female clownfish that is over 20yrs old as she was already of adult breeding age when I got her. Named "Queen" of course.

pikaole

Hearing that your clownfish has lived for so long, I can imagine how well you've taken care of them 💕 I've always dreamed of having a reef tank. I move often too, and I didn't have confidence in maintaining it, so I never started. I've only been maintaining two freshwater tanks for 18 years, and I think it'll probably stay that way forever 😂 I totally agree that it gets harder as we get older. Long live the queen!

Elizabeth Gall

This is such a cute concept and a great execution! I love your little pufferfish pea pod <3

pikaole

Thank you! I had drawn something similar with pillbugs before (their Korean names are bean bugs or ball bugs), but when I know that puffer's name, I had to draw 💕

Echo

These are so adorable!

pikaole

Thank you very much Echo!
