I visited the sticker factory yesterday.

I think a lot of people were wondering how I make stickers.

So I made a simple video...

I wrote it simple, but it took me all day to edit this 2 minute video lol.

My voice comes out....

I can't pronounce the sticker 'sheet' very well, so I had to delete it for fear it would sound like profane lol.

My English will be obviously weird, but I added subtitles so you can understand😂

+ I used to get questions about manu from the fellow artist ,

Here is some more detailed information.

Q ) What program did you use to make the stickers?

A ) Image: Adobe Photoshop CC

Final edit:  Adobe Illustrator CC

It requires total of 4 layers for this sticker.

cut line

area of foil

white layer

Image file (must have more space than the cut line)

Q ) How long does it take?

A ) In my case I can't measure it because the time it takes to draw is all different.

Except for the time to draw two illustration (jelly bean sea slug and octopus),

I worked on this sticker over 3weeks. It would have taken a lot longer since I was very inexperienced in using Illustrator.

Manu's production time is usually one to two weeks.

Last time it took 10 days, this time it went into production after 5 days.

This is the time it takes to check the digital file and book the schedule, and the sticker production starts in the morning of the same day.

It started at 9 am, and check the status of the sticker with me by 11 am.

Whole sticker production was all finished at 12 o'clock.

If my father hadn't come to pick me up by car, they would have sent it by courier.

Now in Korea, the courier union is on strike, so I took the sticker box home right away.

Q ) What is the minimum order quantity?

A ) Minimum order quantity is 3000 pieces (3 designs * 1000)

This is quite a burdensome number, so in Korea, three artists usually gather to produce.

The factory manager said that the original MOQ was 10,000 units 😲

Q ) Can I order from Korean manu from overseas?

A ) I asked the manager if he was interested in taking orders from abroad, but he said that, unfortunately, he only accepts orders in Korean because working with foreigners is too complicated.

As far as I know, not only here, but most Korean companies do not support English service.  For example, in Korea, paypal is not universal.

If you want to make something similar, Maybe you can found it on alibaba. As far as I know, the price will be 2-5 times cheaper than in Korea manu.

But I haven't tried it myself, so I can't recommend any place😅 In my case, for reasons such as time, communication, and quality, I tend to produce with Korean companies whenever possible.

Q ) How do I find information about manu?

A ) When I first wanted to make a sticker like this, there was absolutely no information.

I searched the internet, but there were only questions and no answers.

So I remember being really curious where the other people made it.

Then one day, my friend shared information about manu.

It was just a cell phone number and email, because there really is no website!

Later, I asked them why they didn't make a website, and they said it was too complicated.😂 Anyway, his factory looked super busy even without a homepage. Maybe that would be the real reason.

+ This is my first time visiting a sticker factory myself.

It was an impressive experience, so I wanted to share my process with you :D

More sticker sample photos will be updated in the following post.

Yayyy!!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Molly Wollman

Sorry to butt in, but I loved watching that same video as a kid! It was so fascinating, and Mr. Rogers was always a wonderful narrator. I didn’t expect to find someone mentioning the same video here, haha

Pesticide

I love this! Thought it makes me sad that manus like this don't exist in the US. It would be so cool to be able to visit my manus.

pikaole

Yes, I haven't visited all the factories, but actually going there and checking is quite helpful for understanding the process. I'm not sure about the US, but if OEM is possible, Alibaba will definitely have such factories.

CaptainMirage

Oh god, I see the factory and all I think about is my work & my machine 😭

pikaole

!!??😭 Do you also work with similar machines?

CaptainMirage

Oh no, I dont! They just remind me of them 😭 especially since my machine is manufacured in Korea!

Frankie Bays

:0 Thank you for sharing. It's really interesting to see how fast the stickers are made. Out of curiosity, do you think you might try to do a similar video for your enamel pins? If not, I totally understand how hard that can be. I'm working on creating my first enamel pins right now and it's way harder than I ever thought it was! Also, your English sounds fine! I have hearing problems, and sometimes can't understand people, even when they are native speakers because of English. :( But I had no problems understanding you~

Peggy Muddles

That is so cool to see! And the stickers are sooooooooo pretty 🤩

pikaole

Well, I don't plan on making enamel pins for a while, but as far as I know, there will be a lot of youtube about pin and manu. (ex, search' enamel pin manu') I remember I saw some.. I'm glad you can understand my English~ I write in English, but I don't have a lot of opportunities to speak out loud, so I don't know what my accent is.

pikaole

Also good luck to your new pin! :D

pikaole

What😂😂 I can't even guess what kind of machine it is!I just hope you have a good rest.

pikaole

Thank you very much Peggy XD can't wait to sending new stickers to you!

Gwen Pearson

That was super interesting! And your english is outstanding :)

🐢 Kammy

Aw your voice is so cute, just like artwork! Thanks so much for this in-depth share of sticker product production. Instead of sticker sheet, you can also say sticker slip or sticker page. :) Also, it's good to support your local community! It's understandable they keep costs down by having location that's not flashy or paying to upkeep a website.

pikaole

Thanks for watching Gwen! glad it interesting XD

pikaole

Oh I'm glad it sounds like that. My native language and English were different in my pronunciation, so my voice was different, and I was worried that it would sound strange. sticker page! Thank you for letting me know. Yes, that's right. I don't have a website, so maybe the cost is lower. Even here, maintaining a website is too expensive.

CaptainMirage

Its an AOI :) but thank you! And thank you for this video, its pretty cool to see how the stickers are made!

Caryn Foley

Your English is great! Didn't need subtitles at all. :) This was such a cool insight to sticker making. I had no idea how it was done!

Merino

This was fun to watch, interesting to see how the stickers are made! Thank you for making this! 😁

Kelly

I love the cute sound effects in your video😂💖💕 Bum bum buuuuum! BIG and LOOONG!😂

Sara O'Neal

This is so fun and cute! I lol'ed at the "magic of love" part. :D This video reminded me of a children's show here in the US I watched when I was little, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. In some episodes he would go visit a store or factory to show how it worked. My favorite is "Making Crayons Mr Rogers" on YouTube.

Neddy

Wow! I didn't know it took so many layers! That's really interesting! I adore the designs 😍 including some worms and snails was so sweet 💜🐸🐌

Void

What an interesting process, thanks for sharing!

Christine

Wow! I loved this sneak peek into the sticker development process! So very cool!

Rhee's Clutch

the sticker machine looked like it was dancing! thanks for sharing!

Valerie Burk

So cool to see this process! Thank you for making the video to share with us! 😃 And to reiterate what everyone else said, your English is great! Not at all difficult to understand. Fun to get to hear your voice also 💖🥰

senkoushoujo

Thank you for sharing! This was very interesting to see :) I always enjoy seeing your process and how you bring your illustrations to life 💖 it was very cool to see the factory in production. Very well made video, your English is very good 👍

Spike Milligan

That was such a neat video! Thanks for sharing. 😊 (And now I know how to pronounce pikaole 😂)

pikaole

Oh, I searched! It's something related to cars?? Obviously, there are many related companies in Korea, so it seems that Korean made machine too (Two of my relatives also work for automobile companies)

CaptainMirage

Well, yes and no! AOI is a machine to check motherboards that are made in my factory!

pikaole

Ohhhh😂 Sorry, I don't really know anything about machines. But they are really huge and It's really cool to imagine you using it!

CaptainMirage

Dont be sorry, I'm sorry for talking about something unrelated & confusing you! 😅

pikaole

Not at all. It's nice to know what you're working! 😆

pikaole

Thanks for watching Elaori! I struggled quite a bit when I first designed the transparent eel, but I'm really glad you liked it because it was perfectly expressed as I thought it would😁

pikaole

I'm glad if my english sounds good to you! I was pretty worried because I didn't have many opportunities to speak English in here🤣🤣

pikaole

Thanks for watching! I'm glad it was fun to you💕

pikaole

🤣🤣🤣the voice is the cheapest and most effective directing😂 I'm glad you enjoyed it.

pikaole

Thank you very much Der-shing!

pikaole

Ah, you like the animals of the land. me too, I personally love the transparent animal stickers the most!

pikaole

Oh, I didn't know there was such a show in America. Very useful and great concept for kid! I just searched for crayon making and found it very impressive. If I had seen it when I was young, I must really loved it🙏 (of course it's fun to watch now )

pikaole

Thanks for watching Void 💕

pikaole

Thank you very much Christine!

pikaole

yeah, they seem to dance to a certain rhythm! Thanks for watching!

pikaole

Yay! Thanks Valerie! This is my first time revealing my voice, I'm glad you liked it🤣.Thanks to you and patreon, I feel more confident in my English speaking!

pikaole

Thank you very much senkoushoujo! Actually, I've been thinking about making a video for a long time, but I think I was hesitant the most because of my English skills.I'm glad you liked it!

pikaole

omg🤣🤣🤣 yeah, that's good point lol. Thanks Jen!

Bäcca

Love seeing the bts. It must be a wonderful feeling getting to see your designs being produced like this 💜

pikaole

It was really fun because visiting manu in person is not a common experience even as an artist! Thanks for watching :D

Dana

This was so cool to see, thanks for sharing! Also I hope you don't mind me saying it, but I think your voice and cute narration were very nice! :)

pikaole

Thank you very much Dana! glad you like that!
