So... this is short. Because I don't feel like it needs to be long to set us up for the next book.

It's from Milaro's pov.

Now I need to go plot out Book 6

Epilogue

Milaro blinked.

One second Quinn had been directly next to him, and the next second, she was gone.

“What just happened?” Malakai asked.

But no one answered, all of them gathering around the thrumming cube containing the damned death device, searching for Quinn.

Lynx frowned. “No alarms are triggered, not even silently.”

“Could she have warped?” Milaro murmured his question, only half paying attention as he spread out his senses to try to locate her.

“No.” Lynx sounded completely confident in his answer, even if the following words held nothing but frustration. “She’s just not here.”

Malakai moved to face the manifestation. “You mean she’s not in the Library?”

Lynx frowned and slowly shook his head. “I mean, I can’t tell where she is. The link we have is just... vacant.”

Milaro watched them, replaying the scene in his own mind, making sure he had every single frame of the memory intact. He examined it and frowned.

Cadre cleared his throat. “As concerning as the Librarian’s sudden absence is, we do need to remove the cube and dispose of it. I didn’t create the cube as the permanent solution.”

Milaro nodded, trying not to let his exasperation show. “Understandable. Can I leave it to you three to get rid of it?”

Harish nodded and Siliqua responded. “Of course you can.”

The three of them moved away, while Eric and Geneva settled around Lynx and Malakai, concern on all their faces.

“You can’t feel her then, Lynx?” Eric asked, oddly solemn for once.

He shook his head. “No.”

“Damn it.” Milaro pinched the bridge of his nose as he looked around the chamber. Ashiron was freed of its burden. But it needed restoration and repair as soon as possible.

“What is it?” Malakai actually sounded slightly scared, and Milaro wanted nothing more than to comfort his grandson, but that had to wait while they dealt with it all.

“It’s not a good sign Lynx can’t sense her,” Geneva spoke softly, her golden skin pale.

“Explain.” Malakai’s tone shifted, impatience evident.

Geneva looked like she wanted nothing more in the world than to not answer that call.

Milaro sighed and stepped in. “If Lynx can’t sense her, that means anyone tracking the Library status will see a blank.”

“But she’s not severed,” Lynx sounded highly confused. “Just not present. Not there. I can’t decipher it.”

Milaro grimaced and continued. “Which means, as far as Sölem and anyone else wishing harm on the Library is concerned - we just got a whole lot more vulnerable.”

As if waiting for the perfect time, the Library Alarms began to blare.

Look in that place in your soul that only librarians can see, you’ll find her there looking out.
