Today we're looking at x64 caches, and caches in general. In x64 the caches are in a hierarchy of size and speed. Intel and AMD have been battling with mechanisms for decades! Today, x64 caches are crazy complicated, but really great fun!

I hope to explain and show methods for employing caches practically, not only in high level languages, but also in ASM, where we have maximum control over the caches!

Performance x64: Caches 1

This video is an introduction to caches on x64 CPU's. We will explore some of the more detailed topics of x64 along side the basics series which we've been going through lately. Today we're just scratching the surface of a very detailed and deep topic. Caches are extremely important in performance programming. The demo at the end shows that a little thought about caches can greatly improve the performance even in a high level language. Eventually, we'll move closer to the CPU and ASM and gain more performance by leveraging the caches much more directly.
