All the best for Alex in the coming adventures in creative writing. I also hope we get more stuff like the HotS and Bothered column from you, now that you don't have to be the Serious Business Person anymore.

Bruce

Alex, professional advice on promotion from friends who made the move from roleplaying game writing to fiction full-time: do promotional stuff with one or more friends. Two people can share a bunch of the overhead (physical, mental, etc.) just like sharing expenses with a roommate, and you've got someone to bounce off in public exchanges for mutual benefit. Even really thorough-going extroverts sometimes need to be the straight man, and experience doing verbal hijinks with someone you like can draw surprising good stuff out of the introverts and others who can be really bad on their own. Whatever it is one may be writing, there's almost guaranteed to be someone else doing related work whom you like. Cultivate an association with them on social media. Even if they're not going to be another Anne/Mitch/etc. for you, there will be aspects of it that you already know how to do and can make work for you in the new context.

Bruce

PS. On Facebook, try following Chuck Wendig and Richard Kadrey for an ongoing example, or John Scalzi and Will Wheaton on Twitter. Both those pairs are more extroverted, but over time you can see all of them have the "I can't be entertaining right now" stretches.

Rod

All the best in your new endeavours Alex!

Lisa

Burn out - it's a thing! Good luck, Alex

Sean Lee

Fair winds and following seas, Alex. Good luck on the writing and wherever that takes you, I hope it's to success!

Michael Purviance

You've got to go where your heart leads you Alex. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Myth

Good luck to you, Alex

I understand what you were saying Salty Alex. Sometimes new leadership, especially after 5 years, brings a new enthusiasm. If you were not feeling it anymore, everyone else may have been picking up on the lack of enthusiasm. You made the right choice! Good luck with your books!
