Hello my patrons! As a follow-up to the Apple II+ video last week, here is another shed-found items that needed a little repair. It's a USI Pi4 computer monitor, which is a perfect fit for pairing with something like an Apple II+. This little monitor was hiding some surprises that made it a little harder to fix than I initially thought.

I did a little research (not in the video) looking for prices of the Pi-4 monitor, and it seems it was $170 in 1982, and there was a 12" version the Pi-3 for $200 along with a green Pi-1 (9") and Pi-2 (12") for $175 each. That puts this Pi-4 at about $600 in today's money, if you account for inflation. At least it's well built!

Thanks for all the support!

I suggest coating the rust with Rust-oleam rust dissovler gel for an hour and see what happens. That stuff is pretty amazing!

Nice fix! It’s great to see a more simple one every now and then — it gives us lesser mortals hope that they don’t all require deep experience in the black arts of CRT diagnosis to get them up and running! 😎

not sure if you saw but the crt is turned 90 degrees to the left. when you showed whatever computer that was i noticed it

Mark Dymek

ok now you fixed it.

might still be tilted a bit but not as much as before

I love that color. At VCFSW there was a pc running flight simulator on an amber crt screen, it was glorious.

Love the screenshot there. Reminds me of Jesse's fashion tips from a British TV show called the fast show.

Nice! Considering this monitor really did just work and I needlessly changed those two caps, it's impressive. Compare that to those Pelco monitors made in the early 2000s and the caps all had to reform and it acted up. Meanwhile this was left in a leaking non climate controlled shed for 30+ years....

It is tilted yeah. The yoke is glued on and I didn't feel like unsticking that to fit it. Funny is it would have been exactly like this since new. Funny as clearly they tried to make a good computer monitor but didn't align the yoke properly.

Woohoo-you guys DID it!! Congratulations!! You’ll be playing DOOM on it in no time!
