He was trying so hard to just be polite and not say anything about all the exposed skin, too

Ah yes. "Shoes"

Fisherman’s Fencer

Hey, it’s not her *entire* leg! …just most of it. In glorious, tanned, muscled tone.

Areyla

TASHTI YOU HAD ONE JOB 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ABunchOTrees

Jintu actually has a point here: dancing without closed-toed shoes is dangerous, especially if it’s a classic highbrow dance like Waltz or Foxtrot, and ESPECIALLY if you don’t know the dance well. If you go out dancing, wear good shoes. They won’t prevent you from getting stepped on, but they’ll keep your toenails intact.

Poor man has a short circuit. Tashti, help him!

Nualie

Okay so I hope she doesn’t end up walking on anything weird or painful though because otherwise she’s getting carried again xD

Julie Erick

Unless they actually taught her the expected court dances, dancing for the first time at a formal event like this is going to be hazardous for completely different reasons. Stepping on her toes is a small concern beside All of That.

ABunchOTrees

I didn’t want to get into the gory details, but here we go I guess. Getting stepped on is not the issue. In the smooth dances (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot), even pros wear closed-toed shoes because of the risk of having your toenail *ripped off*. 1. Good dancers *slide* their feet across the floor instead of stepping. 2. The smooth dances *travel*, meaning the leader is usually stepping into the follower’s space. 3. Good smooth dancers stay as close together as possible, preferably in full body contact. This combination of factors means that in the smooth dances, there is no margin for error. If you (or your partner) step off on the wrong foot, or even place it slightly wrong, you can easily lose a toenail. Closed-toed shoes save you from this danger! (Latin and club dances don’t travel, and the distance to your partner is much bigger, which is why professional dancers *can* wear open-toed shoes in those dances.) As a beginner, where the risk of stepping with the wrong foot is very high, the risk to your toenails is even higher. Shoes are VERY IMPORTANT INDEED. As someone who frequently dances with beginners, I actually don’t know what other risks you might be talking about. Nobody is going to expect her to know these dances well, so they’ll either avoid dancing with her or try to teach her. (I expect only Jintu will fall into the second category.) The worst that could happen is an over-aggressive lead manhandling her across the floor—extremely unlikely to happen to the Tigress Queen.

First Kentu’s lack of shirt, now Kazhra’s lack of shoes! What next!? Hehehehe, I’m living for Jintu’s outrage. He’s like, “but-but-but that’s not how things are done!”

Liz

His reaction is similar to the bath scene. The horror and outrage because that is NOT how things are done here! Also the possible fear of getting blamed for the situation when it was not his fault. Kizara looks so cute hiking up her skirt. She’s tiny but she’s still got legs for days - Jintu will hopefully appreciate them more once he gets past the outrage.

DragonWytch

Tashti - "oops, did we forget shoes?" *grins*

NightArcher

Why am I slightly suspicious that Tashti did this on purpose to make sure Kazhra and Jintu dance together the most often? Because she would know this reaction and how harmful a beginner dancing without shoes could be if your partner isn't very experienced and doesn't know..

ABunchOTrees

She’s a servant. I’m not sure she does dance. She might not know. 🤷

TheMysteriousMrM

Hey, kind of a side question but I remember between the end of version 1.0 and the rewrite Allison released a number of short comics like "Names" where Jintu explained the background of his name and how it's based on a constellation or the one where Kezkaramki knocks out the wall on Kizarasunga's room so she feels safe. Does anyone know where to find those?

D'Artagnan Wayland

Wow, I'm impressed with how much striking of a pose she did to show she didn't have shoes on

Liz

They used to be on Deviant Art more recently but I think Allison took them down. No idea if she’ll repost them.

Liz

Tashti is a high level servant. She probably knows all about dancing even if she doesn’t participate. Maybe Kizara doesn’t want to dance and the lack of shoes is to help enforce it lol

ABunchOTrees

Maybe. Maybe these people don't do dances where shoes are that important. Maybe they always wear shoes because it's a cultural thing and Tashti has never had to learn why going without would be dangerous. Maybe Kizarasunga's reflexes and body-awareness are so good that Tashti figures she's going to be fine. Maybe Alli isn't an expert in literally every field of study under the sun, she didn't know about the danger, and therefore in-universe it isn't important. At this point I'm going to assume that we're reading too much into it.

Chromoid

The mid-rant “-that is your ENTIRE leg-” has me howling. My man is flustered both ways and it’s gotten so bad that he can’t decide whether he’s gonna bed this woman, or throw her out of the nearest window. 🤣

MonStarrie

If I remember correctly, the reason she gave in vers. 1 for not wearing shoes is because shoes are meant for battle/riding/outdoor activities. Kizara said it was disrespectful to wear shoes in someone's home

TheMysteriousMrM

Thank you! Glad to at least know what happened to them.

Nualie

Can I just say I love the panels were characters' eyes are just black blob, it makes them look like excited cats, especially Kizarasunga

Alex

I asked abot those. They will get incorporated into main story in due time.
