I mean, if the Empire is just asking for an end to the war and, in exchange, he'll stop invading and formally recognize them, because said empire doesn't want the political issues that come from an "illegal invasion" ....well, I could buy that everything might be over by then. On the other hand, if he wants to marry his son to their queen and bring them into the empire that way, so that they can send even more settlers down into the tribe's territory....I doubt things will go very well.
