 This is what I had in mind. I think the result is quite interesting and I'm thinking of making it the norm in future manga!

I agree with the x-ray view. Though if I may suggest, as a build up for the protagonist to start acting desperate in their expression, while other characters might not notice the change yet.

x-ray is cool but the toes "thicc" and with the pad like in the previous panel were absolutely adorable
