That’s Dragon 7 for everyone. Glad you guys enjoyed the ending. Obviously, we are off to Hell for book 8. Zach is becoming something more in terms of the faerie and finally grasping magic, even if it is only to make Norton punch himself through a portal.

I feel like there’s a lot of ground to cover to finish up Dragon, but I’ll keep chugging.

I probably need to go back to the yacht scene in the latest dragon and give him a little more forward thought, even if everything goes wrong. Because Zach is a bit of a meat head there.

Sorry I didn’t follow through on bikini art for the girls. AI art was frustrating me with really heavy biases when trying to get specific characters. That and AI art is moving so fast, it’s hard to keep up with the latest.

Dungeon 102 is up next. I’m about halfway through it, Ken is developing nicely and so is his harem. Working on making Ken smarter compared to most of my MCs.

The struggle with discovery writing is it can be difficult to make the MC seem smart, because they are always in the moment. If I’m not thinking far ahead, it’s hard to make the characters do so.

Otherwise, I’m pretty happy with my stories so far. After Dungeon I’m probably going to push SSV 5 to the end of that series. I started it with a plan for a trilogy, book 1 did almost too well and I let myself play in the story a little more than I planned. But I think it’s time that one wrapped up.

A lot of people guess why I decide to end a series, really it’s just trying to gauge my fans as a whole. I’m in a very privileged position to not have to worry about my numbers too much. With all of the books that I have in my backlist, my business is very stable. So here’s a little of what I look at with my series.

From a data standpoint, the most interesting number for me is if each new book in series grows the series as a whole, stays steady or the series is dropping, what I interpret as a sign of my audience interest in the series as a whole. When you put out a new book in series you attract new readers, people to pick it back up and of course people to read the latest. So, I try and measure that all together and answer the question: Are people still interested in the series?

From that data, everything screams that Dragon’s Justice is my best series. Though, it seems I fucked up a little on DJ4. I interpret that as when I added the Dragonettes if I’m honest. Even then, on book 6, over 50% of my readers are still reading.

That’s another big number for me. I dropped below 50% on book 4 of Mana and there again on book 3 of SSV. Interestingly the 50% drop has held really well on Mana over time even though all 6 books have been out for a while. To me that means I screwed up book 3, there’s a big cliff from 3 to 4.

I use these data points to try and determine if my audience as a whole is interested in me wrapping up the series and starting again or if they want me to continue the series.

I wish I could just write the perfect series, but it is all a learning process for me and this data helps me understand when I’m doing the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ things. I'm listening to it for my next series.

Looking out at my schedule, I’ll keep up the rotation and have 1 or 2 new series this fall. There’s a stand alone that I’ve been dabbling with as an exercise to try and feel out some different romance structures. I might publish that, but it’s not harem because I’m just focusing on a romance plot from a male POV.

I’m a tad worried that I need to rebuild some of my story pacing tools that I use to keep my discovery writing on track. With my new learnings and to keep my work from becoming repetitive there's some work to be done there. So that’s a side project as well. One that I can’t really apply mid series, but I hope to apply it to the new ones this fall.

I also joined an author book club this year to work on my writing with other successful authors across multiple genres. It’s fun and lots of really great perspectives from them that is helping me look at my writing on several levels. I need to keep improving.

The manga is going well, I just got into chapter 5 with the artist. The black and white cover art is done, but I need to get it colored by one of my cover artists. It is slow going, I’m hoping to move forward with it in a more public way soon. Sorry I haven’t been sharing it here. I wanted to go back and do some edits to things and get Miles some more consistency.

Otherwise, life is well, boring, but that isn’t a bad thing. I have my first vacation since the little one planned. Five days, so I have to get myself ahead so I don’t have to worry during it.

Thanks all for reading my ramblings and enjoying my stories.

I hope to see Ken pick up a Profession as a side job. Like a trader or something that boosted by his Emperor class. To help support his girls. I understand that the girl are well off.

Honestly i don't think the dragonettes were the issue, what if because the way you write Zach and as a reader we feel his stress dealing with them and the situation as a whole 🤷🏿‍♂️. Mana beast all of it was good to me, wish i knew more about the world after rank 7.

I will say that dungeon to me seems like your best book but that could be because I'm a sucker for dungeon stories

Keep on truckin' (writing) as your books are some of the most entertaining I've read. Looking forward to Dungeon 102. And yeah, many authors find a drop off in later books in a series as the first book always has a lot of interest, but it also determines if they want to continue the series or not. For Mana 4, there was a large gap after book 3, but I think it might also have been the sold into slavery/servitude. I know I nearly didn't pick up that series due to the book description, but glad I did. Each to their own tastes. I know that even if there are certain authors I favor, there are some book series I didn't pick up because it didn't draw my attention as much as others. To say you've managed to get me to read all of your book series so far (currently working on LR) is an achievement!

Lucky

Shoot, and I struggle with just penning a letter to family!

Lucky

I had the same feeling about mana. Something didn’t strike me with the descriptions, but I devoured the books once I got started.

For the record, I have loved all your series so far, especially dragon and I hope it continues on for a good long while. It is just sometimes feels like Zach goes to meat head sometimes and it feels more like it's for plot convince instead of it naturally happening and it draws people out of the story.

I have to say one of the changes to your writing style you made to Dragon 7 I really felt deserved a call out. The POV chapters from the girls perspective were fantastic and really flesh them, and the relationships out. I know you had some reservations at one point of adding them in so late in the series but they really were gold in my opinion.

I'll second that. You're also experimenting with not having all the action happening "on screen," as well. I know the paintings when I attempt a different shadow or perspective are ones I want to burn after finishing. I'vealso noticed they help make my next one better.

So book 3 is where you lost me originally in Mana. His childhood crush that he worked towards getting to the whole time was finally with him. Then some OP boss comes in and he had no choice but to give her up. The best analogy for me on that is you just climbed up a mountain expecting to have a great view but instead there's another mountain in the way of that view. I did eventually go back and read through the entire series and besides leaving some of the harem behind for a while it was a really good series. It just falls back on what seems to be a standard of don't fuck with the harem 🤣🤣

Honestly Dragon is what brought me to your writing, I picked up book one and couldn’t put them down! I was instantly hooked and loved every second of them! I didn’t even see an issue with book 4, every book has moved the ball forward and added something special. Sure it was frustrating to see him hold on to certain hang ups like reluctance on forming relationships with the dragonettes. He was growing so well in all other aspects it just felt like he wasn’t taking a mature point of view in his responsibilities I.e. forming a good friendship with them and then giving them an egg like he keeps saying is his responsibility even if he doesn’t claim them. BUUUT (And this is a huge but), Zach is YOUR character, the dragonettes are YOURS. You know them WAY better than I do. Point being, I LOVED Dragon and once I’m done with it I plan on plowing through everything else you’ve wrote thus far!

Can definitely say dragon is one of the best book series I’ve read and can only hope it keeps continuing even if you have to take a break from it

Hayden Leech

Dragon is the best, at least for me. Followed by ssv, followed by dungeon. The other two are… eh. At least for me.

Hometown

Dungeon is my favourite. The other ones I've read are Mana and Dao. I haven't read Justice or Supervillians yet but i plan too. I like the RPG nature of dungeons better. Also seems like it'll focus on less girls hopefully. Dao and Mana seemed like there ended up being too many and it almost became like a collectathon of harem members

Wade thomas

I started with mana. The first three books were absolutely amazing. And the last three books even more so. But if you’d take my opinion with a grain of salt… I think the thing that tossed a lot of people was the description of the the 4th book. The fact that you told the readers in the description that the MC was enslaved along with his wife at a brothel might have thrown some for a loop. I had the audiobook in my I’ll get to it at some point pile for close to 2 months. Maybe had that particular piece of information not been in there the interest might not have dropped so severely. The book itself? Amazing. You did a bang up job. The plot the story the twist.

Dang, I really hate to see SSV about to be rapped up I was scanning to see when dragons 7 is to be released on Amazon, to know when to purchase it, but didn't see anything in my initial glance, trying not to spoil it for myself too much because I want to read it from kindle itself (or listen to it with audio) But my dude, I will say I devour the SSV and Dragon series when they come out! By far some of my most favorite series, in this genre 😍🤘 Keep it up, m8! Edit: And I will be rereading both series again. My dude, these are gems

Michael Shuble

I’m excited for your progress this year! Your work has only gotten better and better. Keep up the great work!

Ryan Romano

maybe because Kelly wasn't really in book 4? and she's awesome

Joel Molinar

Really am enjoying your work with ssv and I don't mind you ending that series, although in truth would love to see it keep going. But still love the characters. I even daydream of an oc character in the ssv world and. I would also love to do fan art of the characters

Yaldabaoth

Hell yeah 😁 Thank ye

Hayden Leech

Honestly I would be delighted if you wrote another dragon after dungeon, I was going to cancel my subscription to avoid the two cultivation stories but resubscribed when I saw it was dungeon nest. I couldn’t get into those two and gave up. But dungeon was a lot of fun, ssv was fun but it might have had its best moments. I enjoyed dungeon a lot. Excited about that one.

Direwolf1618

For what it’s worth, I think the big thing between dragons book three and four was the tension took a big drop down. This is purely hindsight retrospective so take it for what it is. Also I missed the first few hour golden window for responses so may or may not even be read… Shit submitted early so even less chance of the important part being read. Damn. Here goes anyways. So in book three there is this impending sense of dread of this huge war with the church, an established enemy. They have been a proven, implacable enemy that murdered the vast majority of dragons using their corpses to flood the mortal plane with angels. The stakes are real and intense. Book 4 and beyond they never really come up again, I mean sure Helena is a big deal but all of the threat is kinda gone. The Fae stuff and dealing with the humans is fine and all but it feels the biggest threat to the dragons has been forgotten? They are a multi book threat that blew their load to soon. Final edit: holy shit I hate doing these on my iPhone. I had to go back in at least ten times to type all that.

Raven3ye

With the way you have structured Dragon 7, I think you have brought it back on track. I enjoyed 4 a lot, but what really grabbed me in the first 3 books was the quality of the girls and their relationships, Zachs powers second, and the world building third. After 4 with the explosion of the size of the harem and # of girls to keep track of so the original girls (and the new ones) felt distant. At the same time, the complexity of the world building and Zach finally really coming into his Dragon powers more fully pushed those to the front as the best part of Dragon imo. 5 was really cool with politics and Zach taking a seat on the Philly council, but again it felt like the relationships were taking a back seat. Same with 6: Zach gets power update but again it felt like the relationships were taking a back seat. That shift is what a lot of people dropped off for I think. If youre reading to see a Dragon shifter kick ass then 4,5,6 are great books for that. Now, with 7 it feels like we are finally getting back to the girls again, which a lot of people will be happy with I personally believe.

DJ Johnson

One of the new things you've done with your writing I really like is multiple pov. Sometimes showing the girls pov is interesting and gets us to really know the harem characters. Would love to see a romance novel from you. I mainly read harem for the romance. When SSV is done your only gonna have Dragon and dungeon left so are you gonna rotate only those two till fall?

FutureInsight

Dragons justice is what’s keeping me here!

FutureInsight

Just finished DJ 6 I’m a little behind I like audiobooks at work love this series hoping something changes and you don’t end at 8, this is one of the few series I look forward to
