Thank you so much for this reaction! My Favorite out of all the films! Greatest villain, saber duel and score ever. With that being said, I do wish they would have cut back on the goofiness of JarJar, and childishness of Anakin. I feel it was just a little too over the top. Also, wish they would have actually gave a reason they couldn't take Anakin's mother, would have cleaned that up a bit. But it is one of my favorites ever, Thank you guys! (P.S. please watch Kingdom of Heaven)

Ash is right, darth maul is played by Ray park in this movie who is an actor and a martial artist. Yes, Padme's decoy is in fact Keira Knightley. As for Hannah saying how proud she is of Natalie Portman and how much she achieved and such, Natalie also studied for and got a degree in psychology from harvard whilst making these movies. ✌️

I LOVE the prequels (as i grew up with them and not the originals) however, let me defend the prequel haters quickly. There was nearly 30 years between the first star wars and the first episode of the prequels. The originals were excellent, some of the best and most famous cinema there is. But that time gap was 30 years for fans to fall in love with the universe of star wars and fantasise about the universe outside of the prequels. There were comics and stories published about what could happen that people already loved. Therefore, when the prequels came out, it was impossible for them to ever live up to peoples expectations because they'd spent 30 years building them up. Also, obviously the prequels have a few issues as well (however, I don't regard any of these issues serious as I love the prequels deeply) so I don't blame the old star wars fans for hating the prequels and thats also why reaction channels always love the prequels because you dont have time to imagine the "what ifs". Also, amazing reaction, far more captivating than a lot of reaction channels out there, super impressive going all out with the makeup. Major major props for spotting the padme decoy and figuring it all out before they explicitly tell you, I genuinely dont think I've seen anyone figure it out that fast.

I really loved Qui-Gon and Anakin’s relationship. Terrible that Anakin basically lost his father figure & Jedi council won’t buy back his mother or at least help her. And the best way I love to watch this is the Ernst rister order with a twist: rogue one, 4,5, 1, tales of the jedi the one who fell from the light, movie 2 extended version, animated versions clone wars 2003 ep1-2, clone wars 2008, 2003 ep 3, movie 3 extended, then lastly 6 ROTJ; I like how despite the many ways you watch Star Wars, it still manages to capture everyone’s heart. I can’t wait for the next Star Wars release :)

This is long but it helps to clear up the whole “Anakin’s mother” issue for you: Unfortunately, you two were talking during the part of the dinner scene at Anakin's house where they explained it, but essentially, every slave is implanted with an explosive somewhere hidden in their body. It is programmed to explode if a slave is to run off or be stolen. But that isn't the only dilemma, Qui-Gon and the others fled to Tatooine because it wasn't controlled by the Federation (the people they were running from) it was controlled by the Hutts. If Qui-Gon were to have somehow located and remove the explosive from Shmi (Anakin’s mom) and then steal her from Waddo (her owner), it would alert the Hutts which would bring an ungodly amount of attention to them, which not only endangers the mission but also the lives of everybody involved, including Anakin and Shmi. Another issue with stealing Shmi, if you wanted to kill Waddo and anybody that stands in your way simply to free Anakin's mother, you would not only be hunted by the Hutts and be found by the Federation (risking the lives of those involved and essentially causing the genocide of the planet of Naboo), but you would also be excommunicated by the Jedi and become an enemy to them (as this action would inevitably turn you to the darkside). Don’t forget that Shmi GAVE Qui-Gon her blessings to free Anakin. You can disagree with her decision, but regardless, as her mother she wished it for him. Remember that Qui-Gon did ask for the boy and the mother, but WADDO declined. And just as Qui-Gon didn’t use his lightsaber to kill and steal the parts they needed for the ship from Waddo, he didn’t kill Waddo and steal Anakin and Shmi from him too. I will give Hannah props as she touched on another issue that the Jed council brought up. They were against training him as he was too old. They train padawans at a very young age. Because Anakin was older, he had emotional connections to people, especially towards his mother (The same issue Luke was faced with in “Empire Strikes Back" with his friends in Cloud City). Not saying that it is a bad thing, just saying that these connections can hinder your training as a young padawan learner, which Hannah was pointing out when saying that she could be a distraction for him. But I won’t go more into that as it drifts off into other areas of the Star Wars lore, just food-for-thought. All in all, the “Shmi” issue isn’t as simple as “Use your lightsaber and free her, you’re a Jedi” as those actions have severe detrimental consequences. Consequences which can, and would inevitably, lead to the destruction of Naboo. It’s a horrible scenario, in a perfect world the republic’s anti-slavery law would exist everywhere, Anakin and Shmi wouldn’t be slaves, the trade federation wouldn’t be trying to invade Naboo, Qui-Gon wouldn’t be killed, and Anakin would be trained by him instead of a young Obi-Wan. But unfortunately, these are the cards that we’re dealt in this reality. Not saying you are wrong for being upset, just thought I’d give you my view on the matter. Glad you guys enjoyed this film, I absolutely loved this as a kid and still do and I agree that it gets over hated. But if there’s one thing most of the Star Wars fanbase agrees on, is that the sequels suck lol. Can’t wait for you guys to watch the rest of the prequels :D

Well it looks like you enjoyed this one quite a bit. While I’m a second generation Star Wars fan, and don’t really like the prequel trilogy as much as the originals, they do have they’re moments, and I’m happy you like them. Ewan McGregor was a good choice to play a young Obi Wan. Quite fitting since his real life uncle Dennis Lawson played Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars films. Liam Nesson is great as Qui Gon Jin, a very charismatically good Jedi. Of course the one who steals the show is Ray Park as Darth Maul. If you want more of that guy, check him out in the live action G.I. Joe dulogy as Snake Eyes. Another great badass character he played. I’m pretty sure from this reaction you’ll enjoy the rest of the prequel trilogy, but you gotta check out Rouge One when you’re done with them.

I always enjoyed the prequels more as a kid but as an adult I love the originals more. Darth Maul is still one of if not the coolest characters in Star Wars. I think if they hadn’t killed him off so quickly , but fleshed him out a bit and gave him more than 1 line, the prequels may have been more widely liked. I can’t wait til u guys get to Episode III. That movie stands with the originals for me no question.

Always enjoy the reactions, but this one was especially fun for me. I was looking forward to it, but it's been a long time since I've enjoyed it as much as just now. I was about 11 when this came out and your reactions made me feel the way I felt back then when I watched this. The reaction made me feel like a kid again -- before you even got to the pod race part of the movie. You know Darth Maul and that lightsaber fight was one of my favorite things for awhile. Darth Maul was the last Halloween costume I ever had, nothing else after that could have lived up to it. I watched the duel so many times, and that moment when the door opens will give you that energy every time you watch it. I'm glad you had so much fun with it.

I saw this movie in the theater when I was 11 years old back in 1999. It was the first movie I got to see without my parents present. I know, I'm kind of a big deal. lol not really. Of course being a child I absolutely loved this movie. But as I got older I understood it's faults and even grew to dislike the prequels deeply. Today I have a love/hate relationship with the prequels. I enjoy watching them and looking back at the rollercoaster of opinions I've had over the years. To defend the people who grew up with the originals (which to be fair you have not), Those films are lightning in a bottle and the prequels are not; the prequels are a carnival ride in comparison. Don't get me wrong, there is a time and place for carnival rides but as for the originals, those characters Hon, Luke, Leia, C3PO, R2D2, Chewie and the friendships that they shared are not repeatable in the prequels, period. Maybe that doesn't do enough for you but again, you didn't grow up with these films and nostalgia is a powerful thing. You're never going to get the people that went to go see the originals in the theater to replace them with JAR JAR, put it to you that way mate. Glad you enjoyed the films. symbolisms.

IF YOU WATCH & LISTEN TO THE ••VERY END•• OF THE CLOSING CREDITS, YOU CAN HEAR DARTH VADER BREATHING! (Foreshadowing, outside the 'main body' of the film). •••• I grew up with the originals, but still found this and the other prequels totally enjoyable. The Vehicles, the pod race, Darth Maul, the wicked light saber fight at the end, it all moves the ball forward. That said, I remember walking out of the theater, all those years ago, thinking: 'Wow... A Star Wars film without Han Solo!" Enjoyable as it was, Solo's absence was 'weird.' I felt it. ...I think other people let this 'comparison thing' get to them too much - focusing so much on what wasn't there, that they fail to appreciate all the good stuff that was. (Example: no, Jar-Jar is no Chewbacca, but the wild hatred thrown by Star Wars viewers towards that character, is way overblown! ) I'm glad you liked the film so much! •••• And Hannah - Anakin DOES bring balance to the Force! ...He merely brings the exact opposite of balance FIRST. (which is what the prophecy doesn't mention. :)

yeah, the originalists are a bit unhinged. I'm prequels all the way....I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT TWO! Lightsaber duels only get better. Being Jedi is literally like joining a religious convent. monks in a monastery that go out to the villages to help the needy and poor. The jedi are a force sensitive religion that use their abilities to promote peace. you guys missed some dialog back with Anakin's mother when Ani said that all the slaves have a tracer implanted in them and they can explode if they try to escape. Qui Gon couldn't free Ani's mother without it killing her, plus, as jedi, they have to shed all emotional attachment and mothers are attachment. Remember what Yoda said. Jedi can't have families nor material things. Hopefully we won't have to wait another month to see Episode II.....lol

I remember seeing The Phantom Menace opening weekend right before a weekend camping trip. I spent the whole camping trip trying to find the perfect straight stick to practice my untrained and improvised Darth Maul double bladed lightsaber spinny moves. By the end of the weekend I had a stick carved up with runes, Star Wars symbols, initials and randoms patterns. I was crushed when my dad made me leave it in the woods when we went home. I was 14 when I was it in the cinema. I’m 38 now and it’s still my favorite Star Wars movie and the one I’ve seen the most times and the one I’m most likely to rewatch. So happy you both enjoyed it. Can’t wait to watch the rest with you.

You guys helped me rekindle my love for this movie, I wanted to BE ANAKIN when I was a little girl 😂 Even tho the effects are dated and the acting is a little dry, this movie is so much fun, and exactly what Star Wars is about. I am so happy you guys liked Jar Jar. The hate that character got was so bad that the actor, Ahmed Best, had severe mental health issues for YEARS because of how poorly he was treated. Another reason besides the slave explosive thing why Qui-Gon didn’t try and free Shmi, Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments, which is why the council was so hesitant on Anakin being trained, as yoda said fear of losing those you care about, fear leads to anger, hate and suffering which gets explored more in 2 and 3. A lot of people say Qui-Gon was the true embodiment of what the Jedi should be, which is why he often clashed with the Jedi council. Hence the fight with Maul being called Duel of the Fates, if Qui-Gon lived and trained Anakin, Anakins fate would turn out different and likely would never become Vader. George may have missed the mark on some things, but some of the story crafting and world building in the prequels is unreal.

ROTJ fight scene with Vader and Luke is much more emotional, heavier, and the stakes were higher, father and son battling for darkness and light. The choreography was different because they had been cut off from the jedi fro a generation. Anakin is the chosen one in the end because he turned back to the light at the end, and he destroyed the sith by destroying the emperor and turning back to being a Jedi at the very end. Star Wars is the story of Anakin's journey first told through the eyes of his children, then we flashback to see his story. Glad ya'll enjoyed :)

You know I saw this as a kid and I liked it. But now I love it. I know some diehards hate it but I can appreciate it for what it is: a much more action fueled Star Wars movie. And that saber fight is still my favorite ever… either way the exception of one other, that you haven’t reacted to yet.

Not liking the prequels has nothing to do w original diehards! They could have been great, they have immense potential, but George Lucas fumbled. And it’s not even a debate, the documentary behind this movie itself shows all the errors George Lucas makes. If after watching the documentary and seeing George Lucas for the baboon he is at writing, then there’s nothing I can say, except we are not the diehards. This movie turns the Jedi into creepy child molesting priests. So once Qui Jon brought the kid to Yoda, he couldn’t borrow Yoda’s credit card and go buy the mother? How about Queen Amadala, she couldn’t buy the little boy that saved her his mother back? George Lucas wrote this script in 30 days, one draft, no rewrites, ok, just to compare, Quentin Tarantino locks himself in a hotel room for months. Listen, the prequels have aged very well. Specially since movies have sucked since 2015. At least they are not mean spirited.

Just because some people like the originals more doesnt mean they are shit. All 6 are amazing. The OG story and characters slap ESPECIALLY Ep 5. But you always get over emotional and act like the old ones are pure ass just because the lightsaber battles werent as good and thats all it takes to make them shit. The best ones are Ep 5 and Ep 3 hands down. Ep1 has the best duel in all star wars nothing comes close.
