Newsletter #1 (Patreon)

Released August 2022

Hey there Geeks and Nerds!

Welcome to our first Patreon-exclusive newsletter! We’ll be releasing these probably monthly to keep you up to date with the shows and projects that we are working on, give you advanced notice of any new shows coming out, and we’ll share some fun recommendations with you!

For this first issue, we wanted to:

- Talk about our plans for our Relaunched Patreon & New Tier Options

- Update you on our recent and upcoming shows

-  Give some more Geekenders updates

- Check in with you, and see what else you would like in terms of this newsletter!

Patreon Relaunch & Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

If you were previously one of our Patrons before: Hi! Welcome back! Thank you so much for joining us again!

You’ve probably noticed that we made some.. Minor.. Changes to how we are managing our Patreon - like, most importantly, we’ve dusted off the cobwebs of our page, and have a TON of scheduled content coming your way. We’ve also moved to a monthly schedule, and have lowered all our tier rates.

If you’re just joining us now, also Hi! Welcome! Thanks for joining!

Tier Changes

With all our tiers, you will be the first to know what we are up to – you will get this Newsletter, some Sneak-Peeks and show teasers for our upcoming work.

With the higher tiers, Videos of our shows - both old, and new - will be released on our channel for your viewing pleasure as well. You’ll also gain access into all of that fun behind-the-scenes stuff: photos, videos, sketches, and other previously unreleased content.

The highest tiers will get even more exclusive content from our members: like livestreams, podcasts, playlists, first looks at costume sketches, set designs, choreography notes and more.

You will also get a bonus entry in our social media contests for tickets etc., and you will get to provide feedback through polls etc.

What isn’t changing is how fantastic we think you all are. Again, we SO appreciate your support!

Recent Show Update

Kill the Ripper

• We closed Kill the Ripper in mid July, after the world premier at Presentation House in North Vancouver, and a two week run at the Rio theatre. And it was fantastic.
• This show was Fairlith’s baby - and was something she worked on for over two years before moving towards production, and partnering with Affair of Honor.
• This show was also semi-cursed. With two Covid shutdowns leading to cast/crew changes, budget difficulties, and reluctant audiences, this show was not an easy journey… buuuut the final result was SO GOOD.

I’m not exaggerating when I say it is one of the best original shows I’ve seen. The lighting was phenomenal, the movement and acrobatics were stunning, the performers were charming, the writing and the jokes were so enchanting, and audiences really loved it.
And the music! The band, led by Alison Jenkins, musician extraordinaire, was so wonderful - in the Rio run, they were able to be a part of the staging, in a very effective, very moving way.

Anyway, all this to say, the show was great, and we’re very proud of Fairlith for putting it on. We also hope to release it online asap!

This Show Made Me Gay

We also just put on our Pride Variety show - This Show Made Me Gay - our queer cabaret, hosted by Tik Tok star, Dandy!

This was also a great show - we had a nearly full house, had the fantastic headliners of Draco Boyesque and Ginger Femmecat, and featured the graduating class of Nerdlesque for Newbs - taught by La Dame Derriere.

The fantastic charity Rainbow Refugee was also able to join us and fundraise for their efforts as well.

Upcoming Shows

Fruit Beer Fest

This weekend (August 13th) we will be performing at the Fruit Beer Festival at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver. We’ll be doing two mini shows - one Pokémon themed, and one Star Wars. Come check us out if you’re in town!

Office Burlesque – Just Announced!

Scheduled for August 27th, at the Rio Theatre! Written by the talented Galaxy Queen of Dreams, Fairlith - this is our first non Star-Wars Burlesque play since Labyrinth in 2013!

Cast is finalized, script is finished, costumes are being sourced, and rehearsals have started. We’re excited!

Tickets available here: Riotheatretickets.ca/events/22334-showgirls-of-dunder-mifflin-a-burlesque-parody

Pokémon-A-Go-Go (On Tour)

Performing as part of Capital City Comic Con, we will be performing on Friday, September 23rd!

Hotels are booked, costumes are being finished, choreography long forgotten is being dredged up from the pits of overtired brains…

This show is honestly one of my favourites, it was such a challenge to try and create an online form of digital art, learning new techniques, teaching ourselves how to edit and animate videos. It was a whole different challenge to then turn that video art into staged burlesque. But it was fun!

Tickets to the Con are currently available here: https://capitalcitycomiccon.ca/tickets/

Other Updates:

We’ve been working on a bunch of new fun online bonus content. We just finished recording our first ever Geek Gabs podcast - if you want to hear us talking about Geekenders and nerd stuff, you’ll like this!

To go along with our on the road show, September will be our Pokémon theme month - we’ll be releasing the full video of the online spectacular, Pokémon-A-Go-Go.

Anyway

That’s a whole lot of stuff, but that about wraps it up! Let us know what you would like to see in terms of future newsletters! With everything, we have lots of ideas floating around, but any specifics are always appreciated! Comment on the post with your ideas, and we’ll give them a good looksee!

Bonus: Important Cat Content

Cat.

This is Fiyero (Fondue) – my foster fail. He’s the sweetest baby with a tiny kitten mew that melts hearts every time. He’s seven months old in this picture, and 100% pure mischief. Lookit that handsome face. Seriously, he is the world’s most handsome baby and you all deserve to see him.
