Hey Man, Wake Up and Smell the Concrete | Sacred Symbols, Episode 318

While Sony may have purchased Bungie with specific end-goals in mind, it's clear -- some two years later -- that the deal hasn't improved PlayStation whatsoever. In fact, it's becoming increasingly nebulous why the acquisition was made at all, with Bungie hemorrhaging money, laying off hundreds, shedding high-end talent, and churning through funds that could be better spent by Sony's actually reliable stable of teams. With further layoffs, the creation of a new spin-off first party squad, and drama galore, there's plenty for us to get into on this topic alone. But there are other things to discuss, too: Firesprite is seemingly making a PlayStation 6 game, Until Dawn Remake got an ESRB rating, Activision's compelling white paper makes a great case for skill-based matchmaking, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do we have any nostalgia for pandemic-era gaming? Would Sony have been wise to rely more heavily on established IP for their games-as-a-service push? With studio failures aplenty, is it even worth getting into game dev at this point? How has Colin been dealing with Boar's Head's darkest days ever? Tango was owned and shuttered by Microsoft, an American company.

I got a robo-call yesterday from the grocery store saying I purchased Boar's Head lunchmeat in mid-June possibly contaminated with listeria.

Chris' 'if 9/11 then 1guy1jar ' comment getting no reaction is cosmically funny

Colin will you be going back to Alan Wake 2 any time soon? Maybe a PS5 pro version? Easily my favorite game of the generation so far

The Lizard King

Thought PSVR2 would have much more airtime

“Twitter sacked 90% of the staff and the website is still operable, sure it’s a little different” Colin, please leave that idea behind you, don’t use it in your future analysis. That comparison serves as nothing but a complete betrayal of what you want to be.

What is the title of Mike Lindell’s autobiography? If its not “Pillow Talk” he really missed an opportunity.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance rounded out the series. It's actually always been my favorite. You play as both Kain and Raziel.

He mentioned a few episodes ago that’s a likelihood when the Pro comes out, hoping it solves his shimmering issue.

Alom Mohammed

Hey Colin -- the name Mohammed means "the blessed one" or the "the praiseworthy one" and it's seen more as a title. Also Muslims name their children after Mohammed and other prophets in reverence to them. Tons of Muslims are called "Isa" which is Arabic for Jesus, or "Musa" which is Moses. You have 'Yunus Musah' (Jonah Moses) who plays for USA football (Soccer) team for example. This is for the convo around 20:00 in.

ok I am one of those people who has never owned a playstation console, yet this is my favorite podcast. I'm an xbox user but, I want to get the PS5 Pro I think. I think that will be my jumping in point.

Gooch Gobbler

Now that Game Informer has shutdown (RIP), I need a new site to check every day for gaming news. What do you guys recommend? Also, I've been looking for people to play Valorant on console! Friend me up: neutralmilkgawd#8924

6:45 we upgraded from dialup to dsl in march of april of 2003. and i remember what my idea of a stress test for this new speed was to download the entire feature length film of "jack**s" off of morpheus, and it took like 15 minutes to download an entire movie. like how we say that no console will ever eclipse that first moment of seeing an x360 in action, i too think this was one of those elder millennial defining moments of "holy hades we will never be the same again" like, bruh. an entire movie in 15 minutes. 😳 just for reference before the upgrade it could take about 10 minutes to download a single mp3 song.

45:02 i use avid media composer at work. IT SUUUCCCKKKSSS. so avid at work, premiere at home, and every year for my performance review i always ask "so, uh, when are we going to premiere?"

Does Colin want to be the business owner of a bloated, inefficient company that dictates what their user should and should not see? Clearly there were massive redundancies once the vision of the company changed.

J92

I work in a senior tech recruitment role for enterprise company in the UK and what a lot of the games media don’t ever acknowledge on podcasts is that no company is in the business of letting their best people go. People being laid off are typically the low performers or the weaker of two people doing the same role following a merger and people they can function without. It may sound brutal but acting like every person made redundant is a travesty is just not correct. I appreciate Colin noting the rounds of lay offs he’d survived. I myself have been through 3 redundancy processes. I’ve never been laid off…in on of them I was promoted. If you’re truly valuable to your company, these things don’t impact you. I think I lot of the industry commentary comes from people with no large scale corporate experience.
