We're getting into the late summer now, and it's no surprise that the news is beginning to pick up, starting with word of more Xbox games migrating to PlayStation. By our next episode, we should have at least one more Microsoft-centric title lined-up for PlayStation 5, a sign of the times as -- ultimately -- much of that catalog finds itself elsewhere. Meanwhile, problems are brewing in Sony's games-as-a-service initiative. On one hand, Concord's release is imminent, and the excitement level is precariously low. It's unclear whether Firewalk can really pull this thing off. On the other hand, we have second party title Helldivers 2, which has been tinkered with to such a degree that players are being rebuffed en masse. Can Arrowhead turn it around and keep a good thing going? Other news this week includes Dragon Age: The Veilguard's release date, the revival of Tango Gameworks, Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part III's potential move to Unreal Engine 5, and more. Then: Listener inquiries. How bad can the Borderlands film actually be? What kind of power does Fortnite wield these days? Is controller drift caused by faulty hardware or aggressive players? Did Chris really think he could win a breakdancing gold medal at the Paris Olympics?Timestamps: 0:00:00 - Introduction

PS5 controllers ARE JUNK. The sticks crap out within 1.5 years, same goes for Series X. The only modern controller i have that hasnt had the sticks crap out is the switch pro controller. The modules they use for the sticks in these modern controllers are known to be cheap. Like lets think here, is it more plausible the massive corporation is cheaping out or that everyone is absolutely railing their sticks? I treat my stuff like its made of fragile glass, and im not hard on my controllers, i only started having sticks crap out this generation. Never was an issue before. N64 all the way to now, im sorry but its obviously the corporation being cheap. There is zero excuse next gen if they dont swap to hall effect across the board. Refusing to move to hall effect (which are far less prone to drift) at this point in time is just blatant cost cutting.

My wife is from Mexico and I hate to break it to you Colin but every part is a little bit like that, and it breaks my heart every time I’m there. So much wasted potential in that country. The people are so nice, the beaches are beautiful. They have a ton of natural resources. Advanced doctors and technology, which most people would be surprised to hear. There’s no middle class so you’re either rich or poor, and that’s caused from the sheer corruption. They did just have a big election though and I’ve heard mixed things about their new madame president. Some good some bad. I guess we shall see, but it’s been like that since I’ve been going there as a little kid.. Anything is possible. So they could turn things around.

Big Fudge

Glad to see the community come together for the Furmans. Last stand has always been there for us going above and beyond in delivering quality content. I’m glad we could return the favor in some small way. As Colin said money only goes so far unfortunately in a situation such as this. All we can offer beyond that is our words of love and support. We’re thinking of you Dustin and Holly and little Emil. Much love and god bless!

Timothy Martin

Proud to say that the gamer battalion is taking care of its own. Stay strong Dustin and Holly, we are all pulling for you.

Ethan Barcelos

"Hellblade 2 really came and went like a fart" proceeded by Micah laughing in the background really got me lmao

Adam Barnes

Raygun the dancer is an embarrassment to Australia. There’s currently a petition here to make her publicly apologise because she allegedly rigged the system to make it into the Olympics. Her husband was on the selection committee apparently

Walk Forward Cutscene

Colin is still wandering around the Pacific Islands defending the Helldivers 2 PSN debacle?

Tristan Kimball

Chris I appreciate you going back to play through older ps4 games you’ve missed. Keep it up

Hozi

Salute to the Furman that never was, we will always remember you.

DirtyInverty

Chris's thoughts on Helldivers were spot on as always. He put into words what I didn't know I wanted put into words.

Golferpro10

I had a huge amount of beer and wine at my wedding, is that acceptable? lol open bar was way more expensive.

Hammertime44

Colin’s argument that signing in to a PSN account for Helldivers 2 is “baby shit” is really ignorant of the whole controversy. Making people sign in weeks after launch was a dumb move. PSN is also unavailable in 118 countries around the world. Compared to this to EA (who also makes you sign in the your EA account) who is only unavailable in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Crimea, Russia, and Belarus. People are not mad that you have to sign in, they are mad that Sony does not support more than half the countries in the world not allowing people to play.

Guatles

FYI Black Myth Wukong is NOT a soul-like game. It’s more action adventure RPG.

Joseph Gedgaudas

Grocery prices are fine again? Where's this magical place Chris is shopping?

Xenomorph Moriarty

So sorry for Dustin and Holly’s loss. I can’t imagine the grief and disappointment. Hope they are holding up ok.

Mike the Person

Colin- you always say there are too many games, yet Chris is literally 10 years into his backlog right now lol. There are only too many games if you’re into final fantasy, souls likes, stellar blade, or Helldivers 2. Those require very specific tastes. If you want multiplayer or co-op shooters like gears, or something like the division 2, or wildlands, or gta online, maybe a red dead online that wasn’t abandoned, or a battlefield game that doesn’t suck balls, or anything besides a money grabbing hero shooter, or literally anything that’s not business as usual, you’re shit out of luck right now. This generation, for the most part, feels stale and soulless to me. Is there the occasional gem? Sure, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Xbox 360/PS3 or even the PS4 generation. Hot take, I know, but somebody has to say it. Thoughts, people?

Matt Wiles

FIFA is the game that has ruined my controllers. High level competitive FIFA.

Wesali

Personally I found Concord fun to play, it's not my type of game so I won't buy it regardless. However, I think people are completely free to criticise it for including pronouns and gender ambiguous characters.

Daniel Blankenship

I see relying on alcohol to have a good time crutch. I am not saying it is bad in moderation. We had no alcohol at our wedding and I am pretty sure everyone had a good time.

Ahlickaloo

I’ve had a bad streak of stick drift over the past 1 year. Mind you, I don’t play any competitive online multiplayer games. Red controller from last year, left stick drifted. Traded that one for a new black controller at GameStop with the year warranty - drifted in less than two months. GameStop’s trade in with the warranty is you receive a pre owned controller. So this used controller is definitely worn, battery drains quickly, but the sticks work. This must be bad luck because my white controller paired with my console still works like a dream. Am I too hard on my controllers? I think not

danny

I've gone through two PS5 controllers in the past year and my most played game happened to be Street Fighter 6. Stick drift was gradually more noticeable in non fighting games. I play less on my PC, but the Xbox controller I use there has zero stick drift.

JL

I have to disagree about the DualSense stick drift. I do think some of it is luck, but I am on my third DualSense since the launch of the PS5 because my first two got stick drift. The first controller I barely even used. I am known by my friends as someone that takes of care of my video game stuff to an excessive degree, and I don’t play aggressively. I use my DualShock 4s a lot more than my DualSenses and they seem to last a lot longer, most of them never getting stick drift.

Cornelius

I realize Colin has been pretty traumatized by his parents divorce, but I think just like a marriage can be handled well or badly, so can a divorce. My parents divorced when I was at a young age and they handled it well, so I wasn't really affected by it in a negative way and don't really think about it. I also have friends whose parents stayed together, and even without fighting, the coldness and lack of enthusiasm in their relationship affected the children. It's not really to combat anything Colin has said, which I vastly agree with, just a slightly different view of the matter. Also, just wanted to say as other people have already said that my thoughts are with Dustin and Holly. Sending much love in these difficult times for them.

Senor Benjamin

Just joined the Patreon, sending love to Holly and Dustin 🖤

A fan of Coldplay lyrics? What say you Colin.

AllTooEasy_

Colin’s take on the The stick drift thing is probably the most frustrating of the sacred symbols lore. It’s simple Colin, you don’t play online PvP online games specifically shooters (Fortnite, apex, call of duty, etc) the sprint and couch being commonally tied to clicking in the joysticks. And Colin you vastly underestimate how many hours people play games like Destiny if you think you are on games longer than most.

Elijah Carlson

Wishing all the best for Dustin and Holly!

Bailey Callis

So refreshing and awesome to see Chris actually playing a lot of games, and offering a lot of well thought, enthusiastic analysis.

modularity

Sending tons of love to Dustin and Holly

Morgan

All these companies source their joystick parts from the same manufacturer in China. It's not people being rough on their controllers it's just the way it is. You don't have to believe it but it's true. These are some janky ass low quality controllers this generation

C

Colin, I love you, but your defence of the joy con issue is ridiculous. It is literally a known fact that the PS5 controller is a terrible, weak designed device, it is not able to withstand any game that required heavy, intense flicks / movement. You aren’t encountering it because the games you play aren’t intense on the components, it’s as simple as that. The issue is not the player.

Alan Smithee was the name directors used if they wanted to disavow a movie upto the year 2000. The name was discontinued because a movie was called Burn Hollywood Burn about director unfortunately named Alan Smithee. And in a case of pure irony the movie was so terrible the director Arthur Hiller didnt want his name on it and they used the name Alan Smithee in the credits. After that movie Hollywood no longer wanted to use the Alan Smithee name if directors wanted to be removed from the credits.

Rob Pursglove

Boys, well done on the introduction regarding Dustin and family. I teared up multiple times and what a beautiful letter he made. Dustin, I know you have seen this several times but I'm really terribly sorry for your loss and although it might not feel like it you will get there one day. All the best to you and your family. Take your time and we'll be glad to have you back when its right.

Benjamin Pope

A poignant, but wholesome intro Colin. I hope to hear from Dustin again soon. Soon as he's ready that is. Take your time Big D

Jon B

Just heard the news and I just wanna say my condolences to Holly and Dustin. The lead up episodes of Dustin have been nothing but excitement, so I can only imagine the pain they both are in. I verbally said "oh no" once I realized Colin was serious. Dustin, I have never been in this situation, so I can't fully understand, but just know not all hope is lost. Don't lose sight of what's important in these hard times.

Dresk47

Sorry for your loss Dustin and everyone else can't imagine the pain. Hope you can find some joy through it.

Jacob Lesperance

I put my money where my mouth is the second Alan Wake 2 announced a physical version. Got the CE. I'm not against digital at all, I'm just not buying your game if you don't give me a physical option. Small indie studios I exclude from this rule.

Zach

Wanted to add my voice of support for our man Dustin and his wife Holly. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Andrew Grishaw

Concord encourages you to NOT main a character. You get class buffs every round based on the previous rounds character if you switch. From what I can tell, there is a default "crew" roster from which most people were picking characters from. All 16 characters were not available to choose within a match...so the crew builder is a way to customize your roster of playable characters.

Dresk47

I didn't want to comment twice but holy hell doesn't get any goofier than raygun word dropping color theory and proceed to know nothing about color theory. Keep it up.

Joe Piervincenti

Little problem I have with Colin and Chris assuming that everyone must be abusing their controllers to get drift... I managed to never experience drift in opening all consoles since the PS2, yet after 2 and a half years on not dealing with this on the PS5, I've two controllers have bad drift in a row, both of which were brand new when it happened, including one that was delivered by Amazon TWO DAYS AGO lol.. it's definitely a bigger problem than people think... I can only play my ps5 by hooking up with a USB-C cable AND choosing the option in settings to not use Bluetooth when the controller is connected, to use it as a wired controller instead!

Draven E.

Alan Wake 2 not making money is depressing. It was the best game I played in 2023 and the deeper I got into it had me asking if it was one of my all time favorites. Go out and buy this game!!!

NeO JD

You can play the old GH and Rock Band games with a normal controller. I could do most songs on Hard but Expert was tough because they’re not designed for the solos. I’ve never had stick drift on any of my modern controllers either.

YP-Berserk

Colin you are just wrong man. I never had a single issue with controllers from PS1-PS3 then all of a sudden I get a few dualshock 4s and far too many dualsenses that have drift or trigger issues. Why is it so hard to accept that the company is the problem and not the consumer?

Guybrush Threepwood

I have anecdotal evidence in favor of Chris's theory of thumbstick drift. Over all my xbox controllers, the ONLY one that got thumbstick drift was the one I used to play Dead By Daylight (heavy use). Back then, they had us rotating and tilting the left thumbstick to do various things and this is the only controller of mine that went bad. Also, I rarely ever "click" in the thumbsticks because I believe that also speeds up the process that causes drift. I always use a controller that gives me an extra button to assign to the "click" of the right and left thumbsticks if I'm playing a game that wants me to click these a lot.

David P

People ALWAYS get blamed for stick drift. The goddamn dualsense that came with my PS5 drifted out the box. My xbox series controller that came with the console hasn't drifted since launch. But every special edition xbox controller I used way less has. It's a lottery. The more we keep blaming users the more companies will get away with this BS.

I can’t take Chris seriously. “Concord’s not woke at all, except for all the reasons it is, which you should ignore” LOL
