Stolen Treasure | Sacred Symbols, Episode 321

What we assumed would ultimately happen has come to pass: Machinegames' upcoming Indiana Jones title is indeed coming to PlayStation 5. Between Minecraft, Call of Duty, and Bethesda -- not to mention Xbox Studios itself -- Microsoft has quickly become one of Sony's biggest third party partners, and we suspect things are still just getting started. Other news this week includes the announcement of Borderlands 4, new Mafia and Dying Light games, word of Sea of Thieves' meteoric success on PS5, impressive Silent Hill 2 Remake gameplay footage, tons of Astro Bot spoilers, pricing details for Until Dawn Remake, and more. As usual, listener inquiries help us round things out. How come rank-and-file developers never get the blame for bad games? Can Chris guide a new Destiny 2 player through the trials and tribulations of figuring things out? Which upcoming PlayStation-aligned game-as-a-service has the most potential? Has Colin yet again offended the sensibilities of the Irish? Tickets to Sacred Vs Dukes live show: https://bit.ly/SacredDukes Follow the hosts! S Tier thumbnail guys

Microsoft releasing most of their big titles on PS5 six months to a year after they hit Xbox and Gamepass day 1 seems like a pretty good compromise on their end, as it basically gives their fans some benefit to staying in the ecosystem. It’s not unlike the compromise Playstation fans seem likely to face in the future, as more and more Sony exclusives head to PC about a year later. Do you buy the platform that allows you to get the game immediately, or are you content to wait and get it on the platform you primarily play on?

That thumbnail is just excellent 😂

There's absolutely no rush for me. With 14k games a year coming to Steam I don't mind waiting a year or more for a PS5 game.

Snoopy Bowl tomorrow, go NYG. Somebody please put a protection spell on Aaron Rodgers this season.

"there is one more thing..." Cold blooded. Loving the meltdowns. Clutch pearls, dorks.

Colin, I'm playing "Hundred Heroes" with the VO off so it plays even more like the old-school Suikoden games and is more enjoyable that way. Also looks beautiful on the portal.

Darren Clarke

Fantastic thumbnail and title 👌 😂

Never once would I ever expect to hear Ethan Ralph’s name mentioned in the podcast lol, now I want to see Colin pop up at the kino casino

It's been obvious that Indiana Jones would come to PS5 at some point. The real shock would have been if it was going to be day and date. However, it was a shock for them to "one more thing" the PS5 announcement. That's the clearest message yet that the end of Xbox console exclusivity is happening. And Microsoft is doing this because they have lost the console war, they are being forced into trying a new strategy. They do not have the console install base or enough game pass subs to support exclusive games. I have both XSeX and PS5. I don't subscribe to game pass. I was bullish on Xbox at the start of this gen, the XSeX is a good piece of hardware. But now I barely turn the Xbox on as PS5 has become my default console. I don't see any reason why I would buy a new Xbox in the future if it doesn't have any exclusive games. Spend ~$500 on another box so I can spend $20+ per month to rent a selection of games I could just buy on the box I already have if I want them? Pass. If I had to bet money today, I would say Microsoft does not release any more Xbox hardware. Perhaps they will, but unless they do something really unique with it, I just can't see much of a market for it.

The Rose Experience

“I don’t remember the act of losing my virginity at all, But I remember playing Dreamcast afterwards.” Never change Colin. Never. Also I’m not sure why people keep calling Black Myth Wu Kong a Boss Rush, it assuredly is not. FURI is a boss rush, Wu Kong is just an action game with RPG elements. It wasn’t promoted as a Boss Rush at all.

I'm actually really curious as to when Starfield will come to PS5. I expect it next year, maybe in the fall. I think the Starfield release was a big catalyst that led to this change in strategy, I'm sure it didn't sell enough or bring in enough new sticky GP subs for such a big game. I think they'll hype up the PS5 release and have a marketing cycle up to it. Probably sell 5 million copies no sweat.. I assume going forward all Xbox games will come to PS5 either day and date or after a short delay, but eventually all day and date.

CracklinBones

I think when people say there aren't any games its pretty obvious they mean PlayStation exclusive games. There hasn't been plenty of PS5 exclusives, FF16, FF7, Stellar blade, Demon Souls, Spider-man 2, then Astro and Death Stranding next year. The PS5 came out 4 years ago and its safe to say it will probably be until 2026 that Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog maybe deliver another game. 4 years during the the PS1, PS2 and PS3 would mean you would already have a trilogy completed in some cases. Insominica in four years on PS1 had 3 Spyros. On ps2 4 Ratchets. on PS3 3 Ratchets and 2 Resistance. Naughty Dog had 4 Crash games on ps1 and 4 Jak on ps2. On Ps3 they had 3 Uncharteds done in four years. Sucker Punch had 3 Slys on PS2 and 2 Infamous on Ps3. We havent had any Sequels to new PS5 Exclusive IPs yet and we probably wont get sequels till the ps6 is out. Theres plenty of games, but the PS games i fell in love with arent there like they used to be.

Damn it that’s a great thumbnail

I don't know man, not throwing shade on Ireland but look at the Norway. They have similar population and Norway is killing at the Winter Olympics.

Sony can take their sweet ass time with their big guns (naughty dog, guerilla, sucker punches next game etc) and its not a big deal they've been silent anymore. So much has been announced for this fall/winter and early to mid 2025.....then the big guns will arrive, giving us a steady stream of quality games for the foreseeable future

Misko 1023

I dunno if other people in the audience would agree. I really wanted to love perils of baking and I’ve boughten all of Colin’s games. But for me, the problem with Perils of baking is simply that the movement in general, but mostly the JUMP just did not feel very good on the controller.. I feel with a bit more attention and tuning the jump could’ve been great and the game would’ve felt much better to play.. does anyone else agree with this take.

Rangersfan49

The booby trap goes off when it senses an increase in quality and quantity, not weight. So as soon as Indy sets the ps5 down in place, que the shooting wall darts

In regards to not buying the latest console… I literally can not think of ANYTHING I can spend my money on that will bring me more happiness than a shiny brand New console. What else is there to spend money on that’s better than a new console?? What are you saving for if not that? I can’t think of any way 500$ can bring you more joy. And for YEARSSSSSSS. You spend that on a vacation that lasts 2 days. Or half your rent. It’s all bullshit. A brand new console is the last bastion of hope for our wallets men… That’s just crazy…..

Born-Blind

My PS5 was bought a year after launch and it seems to overheat and shut itself off at least once a month. Really frustrating. I've never had a console do that and I take really good care of my machines.
