Welcome to "a very special episode" of Constellation, Last Stand Media's conversational podcast. This week, I (Colin) am joined by a duo of guests as opposed to our traditional trio: Punching Up's Gene Park and storied game designer David Jaffe. In an unusual (though not unprecedented) move, I asked the guys not to come prepared with any topics this week. Instead, I thought we'd just chat about whatever and see where that brought us. Perhaps not surprisingly, a lack of a concrete plan led us into nearly three hours of video game talk about a wide variety of topics: Concord, Astro Bot, Drawn to Death, Jim Ryan, Mark Cerny, Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Online, Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, God of War, PlayStation games going to Xbox, Phil Spencer, Bobby Kotick, Nintendo, Super Switch, and on and on. We hope you enjoy.

The three certified #YAPPERS. Love this

Fella

Always a treat to hear from Jaffe

Rufián

Asto Bot pulling tremendous scores post Concord is telling. The market is signaling disgust at games marketed to liberals/pedophiles. Nuclear family fun is in.

Pan Ic

Jaffe with some great points this episode. Appreciated.

FlynnTaggartGuy

Don’t we all wish we could confide in Arthur Morgan?

Simmo

They cancelled the last of us online just in case it was a success and they'd have to support it. The mind boggles

Zackery Parkerson

A Cassie Drake game makes sense because how many times will audiences really want to see Nathan Drake go through the same damn arc every game?

Simon Freeman

You guys are a fucking awesome mix! More from Gene, Colin, and Jaffe please…

Bartevious

Jaffe, as someone who is almost always annoyed by people in the MAGA crowd, stand down. No one likes hearing people morally elevate themselves over an entire group of people over differing ideologies or opinions. There’s peoples grandparents for example who you may find ignorant for their beliefs, but are helpful and caring people in their communities. Especially if you spend time in more rural parts of the country.

Adam Barnes

Jaffe, I’m opposed to you politically on pretty much everything you say. However, the most offensive thing you’ve ever uttered is calling Lara Croft, Laura. Stop it.

Adam Martinez

This podcast was amazing. Please give us more of this wonderful trio 🔥

Geoff

This was a great conversation, great chemistry with you three

Chill Snake

One of the best conversations in LSM history.

Adam Razak

The back-and-forth between Jaffe and Gene regarding modern PlayStation's game design philosophy was fantastic. I could watch hours more of them dissecting this single topic.

NecrumOddBoy

This thumbnail should be on a hoodie

Brandon V

Good to see Keith Olbermann back on the pod

Quinnton from Spokane

I just want to point out that you guys say things about Gen Z as a whole that is only true for a quarter of the generation. Gen Z is generally considered those born 1997-2012 so 14-27.

Harry Stone

Awesome episode guys, love this trio!

Beaver diva

Did it not age jaffe in the pic? 😂 Jokes jaffe your as sexual as ever

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

I’ve been hearing consoles are dying since I was a kid and at this point I’m pretty sure I’ll be hearing the same shit when I’m old. One of the things Mike Ybarra said on that thread on twitter was how this narrative feels false and it’s being pushed by those losing the console war.

SayWhatsReal0o

I wish somebody would tell Colin that’s not how autism works 😭 I know it’s funny but for someone that works with autistic children and young adults, Mark Cerny is far from Autistic lol

Michael Thew

Socom will never come back because the first thing you think of is the PSN outage and Sony doesn’t want anyone to remember that time

Michael Mashpotato

Hearing the name New Line Cinema has triggered some memories for me. When I was 5 my mom took me to the commodore theater in Williamsburg Brooklyn to see Freddy’s final nightmare in 3D. She made me wear the green and red glasses and since that day I still can’t watch Freddy movies. Whenever I saw the new line cinema logo I always feared the worst. It wasn’t until my favorite movie of all time Rush Hour came out that I grew out of fearing the logo.

Diddy’s Dong Quest

Not doing the normal topic by topic format was awesome. Really loved it. I’d love to see it when it doesn’t center on games!

The Rose Experience

Jaffe’s point of antiquated ownership initially bristles the soul. Historically he’s correct ala film and music, but Gene’s counter was better and has precedent on his side. People tend to revert as they get older, they adopt the practices of their elders and get smarter and wiser. Young people also don’t spend money, or vote, or commit to much of anything.. More importantly it’s why young people skew progressive Liberal and then when they grow up and have to pay for things realize it’s all rainbow and unicorn bullshit and move to conservatism. You’re welcome and yes, I liked my own comment.

Nuke

I miss Dagan

Mr. Weeb

The end conversation killed me

Michael Welter

If you're complaining about Jaffes politics being on the show you're a part of the problem. Colin rails against left wing twitter being an echo chamber and you want to have a right wing echo chamber here? Come on.

Look Up 2:27 of Delusions of Grandeur - Glazed Donut Zero (Official Video)

To the discussion of game ownership, I think maybe why we hold on to physical media has to do with the very unique nature of games. An album or a movie is going to run you around $10-20ish, whereas games cost much more. Plus, music and movies/shows are much more easily put online and experienced. There’s no need for input like a game requires. Keep physical games alive! (losing battle, I know)

Samurai Costanza

This was a great episode. This trio has real magic between them.

Michael Welter

You've been here since the beginning? Then you remember that Colin left the Republican party because of Trump. MAGA Republicans are a whole different faction of the Republican party. And that's true from the left and right perspective. That's not a controversial statement either. Maybe you don't want to admit it because you're a part of it but it's just a fact.

Joshua

1:41:33 Colin as a Marxist I'll always still love you. Even though you think I'm dumb as fuck, it's okay I find your economics dumb as fuck too but we can get along. Wish I could make the show in SD, my favorite network and favorite NA city.

DIS-Bee

Absolute W jaffe for bringing up Ready or Not. That game is amazing.

Michael Welter

Where did Colin say he was voting for Trump? Thats completely fine but can you point to a time stamp in a show? I believe he'd said he's not voting for any of these clowns. Or are we just saying things.

Chris

~2:23:00 Colin said Chris is shadow banned. I just typed "Chris r" into YouTube (app) and got suggested Chris's channel. So at least here in Germany Chris is not shadow banned. Just fyi

Dion

Would have been funny if you left Jaffe as he is in the thumbnail.

Fotis Lyto

Bullshit Jaffe, you don't take Trump for what he said, I'm pretty sure that you blame Trump for the Jan 6 "insurrection" but he said to the rioters to go home, so you don't care what he said just what he means. I'm not saying Trump is good, I don't care really since I'm not American, my problem is that in politics people take the worst possible interpretation of what their "opponent" is saying. It has also become like that in the Internet, going in reddit is disgusting because anyone thinks the other person is the worst person ever. I was called a fucking Nazi there because I did not like the Obi Wan series...

Ellis

I love Jaffe
