To Gene’s point about getting new $1000 phones every year. I think people don’t mind because most wireless carriers offer a 1-2 year free upgrade window for customers. Also paying for your phone monthly wrapped in with your cellular service charge is much more palatable than coughing up the dough upfront.

People also use their cellphones all day, everyday. At least, a lot of people do. So they tell themselves the value is there. Whether they're texting with friends, family. Watching YouTube, using it to order food. Take pictures or videos of their family. People use their cellphone way more than they use their video game console. It's a dumb comparison lol.

In response to Gene’s iPhone question: An iPhone 15 is $799, not $999 but it is not made as just a video game device it is multipurpose. I used my iPhone for so many aspects in my life that it slowing down or not working as well feels like a detriment. I use it 50 things and buying a new one every 5 years or so makes sense to me and Apple releases incremental updates knowing they will eventually get me to buy one. Apple also doesn’t just jump the price up out of nowhere while removing features from the lower priced model. If the $999 iPhone 16 Pro only worked with wireless charging and charged extra to add a USB-C port this year people would be mad about it.
