How Do You Solve A Problem Like Ubisoft? | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 412

It's me, Colin! Please welcome Punching Up co-host Gene Park and LSM legal analyst Rick Hoeg back to Sacred Symbols+ for a conversation all about French publisher Ubisoft. As you likely already know, the Guillemot family's prized company is having a very bad year. Since the beginning of this calendar year, its market cap has fallen by about half, a catastrophic turn-of-events for the once-powerful entity that controls a few of gaming's biggest IP, including Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy, and Far Cry. Bloated beyond belief with some 20,000 employees spread across nearly 50 studios and corporate, with steadily-floundering game sales, and -- perhaps most importantly -- an increasingly-activist group of shareholders, founder and CEO Yves Guillemot may opt to team-up with Chinese conglomerate (and current minority shareholder) Tencent to bring the company private, where it can begin to be repaired. Thus, today's conversation between the three of us is all about this very topic: What's gone wrong with Ubisoft, and how can it be saved?

Colin I know you are opposed to this but switching Silent Hill 2 to quality mode fixes the shimmering on reflections and lighting issues you are having. The game was definitely designed to target 30fps on console and it plays perfectly fine since it's a slow paced atmospheric game

I never get tired of Gene ranting against Concord's awful rivalry mode.

I don't know the reason why they did what they did with shadows, they might of do it for the reason what you said. but I like the idea of having you play as her as the insider and him as the outside to the culture. He will also probably give her knowledge for outside of Japan because it japan is being to open up but still somewhat close to most of the world. But I do find it wired how a lot of people talk about the game like he is the number only character in the game and she doesn't matter. I imagine you are probably being the game as her and meet him early on both characters are going to very important to the story but I think you will probably being and end the game as her. I'm looking forward to playing as both characters. But do you want to know something weird about assassin's creed the lore character of assassin's creed Valhalla and Odyssey is the women opinion, but they mostly advertise the man in the trailers and the man is even on the cover box art. It feels like a half hearted step from ubisoft, they want to be like we have a lead female characters but still advertise the not cannon man opinion. it's just really odd

i exclusively only 'buy' games with a physical releases, and i've beaten 50 games so far this year. i'll play digital only releases on subcription services like gamepass and psn+, but i'm just not buying them is all.

Gene genuinely cannot understand with an ounce of his being how hoeg can play 120 matches of concord and also like Rivalry mode : )
