I Can See Inside You, the Sickness Is Rising | Sacred Symbols, Episode 331

It's not been a good week for PlayStation's vaunted first party studios. For starters, Insomniac's long-in-development licensed Marvel title Wolverine (first revealed to the public way back in 2021) has lost both its game and creative directors, an ominous sign that something has gone seriously wrong behind-the-scenes. Meanwhile, two Sony-owned teams -- Firewalk and Neon Koi -- have been shuttered outright, ending any glimpse of a return for the troubled service game Concord, and stymying mightily Sony's glacial mobile initiatives. Between blowing billions on Bungie, the disaster of the aforementioned Concord, the cancellation of a slate of fare (including The Last of Us Online), and a trickling first party pipeline, what exactly is going on at Sony? And who's responsible for this mess, anyway? We have an enormous amount to discuss. We wrap things up with listener inquiries, of course. What are some of our favorite defunct gaming websites? Should the Tales JRPG series be played in a certain order? Is Sonic experiencing a sales (and critical) renaissance? Can we stop with all the flagrant tipping, already? Follow the hosts! Respect for how Colin treats his people.

Fuddruckers?!? Holy hell Chris, I haven’t thought about Fuddruckers in years.

Colin "I'm not going to rant about it" Then proceeds to go on one of Last Stands most epic rants in history. Hopefully grummz will take the bait. He needs a dose of reality.

Adam Razak

I think Chris hit the nail on the head during the Neon Koi discussion. PlayStation are enjoying good short-term success, but I seriously question where their baffling decisions and investments this generation will lead them 5+ years from now. How many more billions of dollars, opportunity costs, dead studios, and job losses is it going to take for Hulst and co to realize they should just stick to single-player games and work towards improving those and making them more efficiently?

Mike Normal

Yup, and their not focused at all on how all of this can and will have some serious ramifications to the Playstation brand because some of this won't come pop off for years. It took Nintendo several years to get into a better position again after the Wii U blunder. Xbox ...man, it's been a decade and they have their own issues. Point is, no company should assume their brand can survive anything and everything. It all has breaking points.

Cole Wallace

The craziest thing about the whole Grummz situation is he apparently graduated with a law degree specializing in intellectual property.

JT

IP law is hard and outrage baiting is easy. Better hours too.

Damn... I was itching for something different and Kunitsu-Gami was def it. Thanks for the heads up on this game. Totally skipped over it on gamepass initially but it's exactly what I needed while waiting for some of these other games to drop

Born-Blind

For some reason this election season they thought it'd be a good idea to randomly text you about the candidates. I've blocked over 37 numbers over the last couple of months... Whatever staffer is responsible for this strategy should be fired immediately

I bought Dragon Age, the script is not great, but I do like the game overall. It runs well, the combat is fun, and the high level story is interesting enough. I don’t understand the return to form comments, because it doesn’t have the grittiness and gameplay of previous DA games. It’s a perfectly decent action RPG with bad writing. It reminds me a lot of Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Germanos

Elite PlayStation gamer? Like hell you are as a host of the Pokem...sorry...Mari....damn again...Nintendo podcast. Stand down. Be humble. All the best from Poland <3

Guybrush Threepwood

game looks great graphically. i can get into games with decent combat that run well. if the game runs at 60 for me on series x and looks even close to as good as i've seen, i would give it a shot. not at full price. oh this is coming to gamepass ult taht's when i'll try it. i figure its a solid 7/10 game.

Mark Davis

Yeah, give it a shot when it goes on sale. I haven't finished the game yet but I think you're in the ballpark with a 7, maybe a 7.5, based on what I've seen so far.

Jared R

It’s the truest definition of a 7/10 in the best possible way.
