Waking, Believing, Running | Sacred Symbols, Episode 333

With profits falling and first party game releases scarce, it seemed like PlayStation's positive commercial situation may have been softening. But Sony's newest financial report illustrates a rosy picture, with ballooning sales, impressive margins, and a brighter software-driven future that promises more of the brand's bread-and-butter: First party, single-player AAA fare. With a temporary PS5 price cut now instituted, rumors of Guerrilla's Horizon Online targeting a 2025 release date, and so on, it appears PlayStation may be back-on-track and off to the races. Other news this week includes even more confirmation that Xbox games will continue to migrate to PlayStation in greater numbers, a potential tease of a Sony event commemorating PSone's 30th anniversary, Amazon finally getting a Mass Effect TV show off the ground, and more. Then, we wrap up with listener inquiries. Have we started thinking about what our respective "Game of the Year" might be? How come Game of Thrones never got an adequate (or even great) video game rendition? Is it possible to play the "biggest" and "best" games on a budget? Can we all agree that Christmas trees shouldn't be put out until November at the earliest? Follow the hosts! You know you're getting old when the kids are saying "The Beatles is already Disney-coded anyway."

Pat Cosgriff

Not appearing in Apple Podcasts for me, anyone else?

Dustin Furman

Getting quite a few reports on this. Nothing different on our end, so I've emailed Patreon support to get this sorted! -Dustin

The ps5 to pro data transfer, I just put everything i wanted to transfer on the expandable ssd, and just plugged that into the pro.

Hugo Ramos

Anyone not getting this showing up on your RSS feed?

When Sony puts out their new handheld they MUST make it so you can play your PSN library anywhere. I bought Metaphor Refantazio on Xbox specifically for that functionality. I can play it on Xbox and also if I wanna chill on my PC and play it while watching something on my other monitor I can. Xbox Play Anywhere is underrated.

Dustin

Yup. Just tried re-following the rss on my preferred app and lost all my listen history; so I've got that going for me, which is nice

Just writing in to thank you again Colin for recommending Kunitsu-Gami. As a huge fan of strategy/RTS games it's very refreshing to find a game like this that's actually playable without a mouse and keyboard. Sometimes it's nice to just kick back and slay some demons on the couch

Deemac

Same, I was actually surprised at how easy the process was. Moved the drive from og PS5 to Pro, and the games just popped up there when I turned it on. No "data transfer" process needed at all

Angel DeJesus

Yeah. That and removing the plates was so easy. I had more of an issue repairing the controllers with the pro.

Guybrush Threepwood

It's called "comprehension" Chris. And yes, you can tell by simply reading peoples' replies to comments ANYwhere online that many, many people do not seem to understand what they read, if they can even read at all.

Guys. I'm a father of two. I'm working in IT with an average of 9h per workday spent on the job. Furthermore, I run two podcasts, a YT channel and a video gaming blog. I beat Metaphor last week with 99h on the counter. #gitgud ...just kidding. Love to all the lazy gamers and please stop the fomo, help yourself, don't focus on being part of the zeitgeist.

This episode appeared on my r s s feed and then quickly disappeared

Born-Blind

My new PS5 Pro is still sitting in the box as well. It's going to be a "surprise" Christmas present to me and my kid.

Born-Blind

There's actually a little slot on the PS5 standard that you can open up and slide a M.2 SSD into. Way better than using an external SSD.

I'm curious what Colin would think about pirating Spotify. Getting Spotify for free works almost in the same way you can bypass article paywalls. There's a free version of Spotify that has some restrictions (no choosing songs, no unlimited skips etc), and with a process similar and as easy as the previous one you can bypass these. Would that be okay by the same logic?
