It's me, Colin. I'll be honest: I've been distressed by some recent comments and DMs suggesting there's some sort of rift between David Jaffe and myself, or that he hasn't been on our programming for a while for reasons other than scheduling and space. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why anyone would think I wouldn't have Jaffe on the show anymore full-stop, particularly because I don't keep up with the in-the-trenches industry drama from which many of these feelings emanated. Do you really think I'd do my close friend like that? Nonetheless, I thought it would be fun to invite him on to chat about all of that -- and much more -- and publish the episode somewhat randomly. Fear not, as this doesn't replace Saturday's programming. Rather, consider this a freebie. Within, we talk about our respective holiday breaks and what we've been playing, but we also delve into myriad other topics, including Shuhei Yoshida's retirement from Sony and the future of PlayStation's leadership, the Xbox brand's multidimensional struggles and the problems with subscription services, the inability to be excited about Intergalactic and the hulabaloo surrounding Naughty Dog's new reveal, and so on. I never comment but I like Jaffe and I look forward to these episodes. Theres other people in LSM I don’t like and wont listen to anymore but I can’t imagine complaining about them or ubsubbing - it’s good to have multiple views and personalities.

To Anyone doubting Intergalatic or Naughty Dog as a whole. I promise you will feel quite silly in a couple of years - Colin mention it on a recent show - what teams have earned undoubted faith? Uncharted Uncharted 2 Uncharted 3 Last of Us Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy The Last Of Us 2 If you think that run of releases is not worth the benefit of the doubt you just don’t like linear, narrative driven games - that’s ok! But don’t pretend like your criticisms of a very good reveal trailer are anything more than trivial ramblings coming from a place of unfounded bias. You can literally not engage with content surrounding it? I won’t be in the comments talking about the new CIV game, why? Because I have zero intention of playing it. If you have zero intention of playing Intergalatic you don’t need to spend your time telling people that - literally nobody cares.

I just want to say I love Jaffe, he’s always been my favorite guest. He’s a bit cooky sometimes but he seems like a good human being. And I really love and appreciate Colin’s loyalty to his friends. There’s not enough of that.

On one hand, yeah, you want to listen to feedback if people are leaving the Patreon. But having guests on that don’t feed into biases is one of the big reasons the rest of us stay. There’s a bunch of people/guests across LSM, we’re bound to disagree with people sometimes. But I think people would live much better lives, when it comes to their mental health, if everyone could be more comfortable listening to reasonable people who disagree with them.

I appreciate your perspectives Jaffe, enjoy your shows with the crew. I think with LSM, it’s always been about picking and choosing what content you want to listen to or not listen to. If you aren’t happy with one show every now and then, just listen to the other 5 shows that week.

I didn't watch Jeff's show so I hadn't seen the trailer for Intergalactic and I finally went and watched it and it looks awesome. I don't want to see anything more about it and don't even want to hear anything more about it until I play it, day 1 I'm in and there's very few games I'm in on day 1 after Cyberpunk 2077 killed that for me, but I just trust Naughty Dog to deliver

Colin talking about how he canceled Netflix and went to resubscribe and it couldn’t locate his account using his email address. I have canceled and resumed my Netflix membership four or five times in the last three years and it always remembers my account and what I watched so my guess is Colin didn’t use the right email address to resubscribe. Also, Jaffe is a national treasure.

Firstly, Col and Jaffe, love your work, Jaffe your my fav guest. But, how do you not get the overwhelming disdain for the Sony female lead initiative? 90% or more of the players of these games are male, 70% of male players prefer to play as a male character, Sony has taken franchises with male leads and replaced them with female leads and all new games coming that aren’t an existing IP have a female lead… This is concerted effort and it’s weird. It’s a similar scene in movies, look at all the action movies now with female leads and look at how well they’re recieved…not fucking well. And why is this? Even in in fiction women beating up hordes of men is too far fetched, that’s it, that’s the answer, it’s hard to buy into, anyone who’s played sports or done martial arts knows this. I am very excited about intergalactic, it’s going to be a day one game for me no matter what. I can buy into sci fi female lead more so than other settings, but I would have preferred a male lead, an Asian male lead would be great, we don’t get that often. I think ghost of yotei was the real tipping point, female samurais weren’t a thing, it’s going to be hard to buy into that game, a female samurai taking on hordes of males is immersion breaking. Again, I’ll still play it, it looks great, but it’s disappointing. There’s games aimed at men and games aimed at women, why is Sony taking the games that appeal to men and forcing in female leads? Why? Really why? What could it be? Why do most modern action movies have female leads?

With all due respect Colin, I really don’t understand the attitude you are having. It’s actually kind of childish in some ways. I’m one of the silent people you mentioned before. Not all the people who are silent are coming out and agreeing with your take. I’m also not one of these 100 percent anti woke people. I agree with those people on maybe 75 percent of things but not everything. I think about things in a nuanced fashion and that’s why this will be a nuanced post. Before anything, it really isn’t becoming of you saying oh this whole Intergalactic thing could be what makes me not want to be apart of gaming. That’s a REALLY childish reaction IMO. This one game makes you feel like that in a sea of great games? I’d say even great games you don’t even pay attention to. Do you not get how this all feeds into the backlash you’ve gotten? People are saying you’re a naughty dog fanboy, you name an episode maligning anyone who doesn’t feel interested in Intergalactic as having a “derangement syndrome”, and then continue to say with Naughty Dogs pedigree, how could anyone not be interested in this game (you admittedly don’t care about Jak). You also go on and say we literally know nothing about the game, so how can it be judged, then continue to talk about the aesthetic of the trailer and what you like about it. In summary - you mention in this podcast what I said above, you insult people who aren’t interested in the game, then tell people they can’t have an opinion on a game from a trailer then go on to talk about what you like about said trailer. I truly, don’t understand how you cannot see how that might be condescending and hypocritical at the same time. You might like the game and you know what, I’m not one of the people saying you shouldn’t or can’t like the game (that’s stupid) but people have their reasons why they also don’t like the game. Some of those reasons are surface level, but I’ve seen many nuanced reasons why they don’t either. You’re lumping everyone in with the smaller group of people who just say “shaved head”. Myself included, I’ve seen people say why they don’t like the specific aesthetic of characters and the feel of the characters and attitudes of the characters. But I guess it’s ok for people like Jaffe to call me a moron and say I’m not interested in a game just because I don’t want to fuck the main character. Sure, disregard all my nuanced thought on the subject and just lump me in with that view that a very small amount of people have (meaning that’s the only reason why they won’t play it) and label me a moron. When it comes to Jaffe, while he was more reasonable this episode, I think it’s kind of hypocritical that you said knowing what you know now, you might not have Stuttering Craig on now but you will still have Jaffe on. Jaffe has literally been on your show and ripped on a large portion of the audience saying they are only good people if they voted for Trump for economic reasons and not anything else. Otherwise they are not good people. That was his clarification. Not his first statement on it, but what he used to clarify what he said. That’s ok though to be platformed? That’s on your platform. Off you’re platform he literally made videos of a woman and since he didn’t agree with her started saying people only listen to her because of her looks, completely invalidating anything she might say (I don’t even watch any of her content besides seeing a few clips). Actual sexism. He tried to play it off as that’s the only reason they got initially interested in her but I’m pretty sure he meant it in general when he first said it. Then Jaffe also compared being trans to being black in a Dragon Age Veilguard stream. I’m not one of the people trying to say who you can and can’t have on the show. I’ve been subscribed to Last Stand since day one. I like when you have multiple different people on with different perspectives. That being said, I do think you’ve had some extremely tone deaf takes recently on how it’s the audience in games changing, not the media when they have for years and years and years constantly berated their audience. Now after they start to either be more vocal or fight back, you’re going to say it’s their fault? That’s messed up IMO. That’s just the games media as well, not to mention gamers being constantly fed a stream of incomplete releases that need 17 patches to be in an acceptable place. You aren’t getting backlash about talking about Intergalactic. You get backlash for insulting anyone who isn’t interested in the game, naming episodes intergalactic derangement syndrome, and acting like it’s impossible to not like a kind of game while routinely skipping over Chris when a Japanese game gets mentioned because guess what, he doesn’t like an entire swatch of genre due to look/aesthetic alone. It’s quite possible to talk about a game you are excited about and like without insulting others who don’t. No clue if anyone will even read this since it’s long and I’m just getting around to listening to the episode.

Dead Space Remake had technical issues, and while the low quality caused by Variable Rate Shading on PS5 was solved, the PC port is still crippled by traversal stutter each time you enter a room, and it's not going to be patched anymore - the game's been abandoned. DA Veilguard uses Frostbite, too, and it works very well on PC, so apparently these issues could've been solved if the support was there.

Why do people keep Pretending there is no reason to own an Xbox console. Its the only console you can get GamePass on! Its not that complicated. Some people don't play on PC. For those people you can get a XBOX console and everything in GamePass day one. That is a thing. These dudes are on here like duh why wouldn't they just buy a ps5 and pay 70 dollars for each of these games just because. C'mon man. Also they come Xbox first to other places a la carte later. I Iike playing female characters, but I do want some male characters too. In Sony’s first party it really has become one sided when I think they would be best suited to having a healthy variety. Recent male lead characters have been done away with: Nathan, Joel, Jin, etc And they have been replaced with Ellie and Abbey, Atsu and soon to be Cassie Add Chloe, Rivet, Returnal woman, Aloy, etc. it’s just too one sided. And the new naughty dog game will have a lead woman. I say let’s have a healthy mix because Astro bot is really holding it up for the men right now lol

Just now listening, I really appreciate Jaffe around the 46 minute mark understanding some peoples’ frustration. I’m not an anti-woke person, I don’t like to get super involved in all of that, but the balance has tipped too far in female driven narrative at Sony. I’m not a Jaffe hater at all though, he’s fine, then the Atreus is female part was funny. Best wishes to all, I don’t dislike any guests or hosts, I only ever took issue with 1 thing anyone at LSM has said and even then, it’s minor.

Let me be blunt, I don't like Jaffe. I don't like his jokes, his style or politics. But I do respect him as a person and his right to be himself. Most of all, I respect Colin for his integrity and standing by his friends. I'd never even think to cancel my Patreon subscription over a single recurring guest that I don't like or can't connect with. To whom it may concern, learn to "live and let live" and respect who you don't like, and to be able to tolerate a little discomfort every now and then.

I like Jaffe talking anything except politics, because he is Mark Hamill lunacy level, but besides that he is great to talk about everything else, sometimes he interrupts too much but it doesn’t bother much.
