Damn I can’t wait to hear about this!

IronLion44

You all doubted back buttons on the pro controller. I was right! Nintendo is leveling up. No second screen (for now) for DS and 3DS games Dustin. Whomp whomp…

RD_21

Way too expensive, both the hardware and the games.

IronLion44

Real Nintendo fans will suck it up and not cry about the prices. Entitled zoomers that are used to Fortnite will cry about it.

brendan p

In regards to the pricing conversation, I do think we are seeing Nintendo make the move to try and price games "appropriately" (their definition of appropriate, of course). Mario Kart being $80 makes more sense when you think about Mario Kart 8 originally coming out over 10-years ago. So, you're essentially paying for a piece of software that you can assume will be around for the next 10-or-so-years. I still don't love the idea of paying $80 for a new game. Especially when you start to realize, we are almost at the point of paying for 1/4th or 1/5th of the price of a piece of hardware. Either way, curious to see how the rest of the industry responds, especially Take-Two with GTA VI.

GoofyCrazyRaccoon

The reason we’re getting close to a 1/4th of the price of hardware is because the hardware also hasn’t kept up with inflation. Gamers don’t know how good they have it tbh, and honestly I think the only reason we didn’t see $80 games sooner is corporations putting to much faith in Twitter outrage being reflective of the entire population.

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

The pricing for these old looking games is insane. Charging for a tutorial game is insane. These reveal was not good.

Jacob Lesperance

Will be the first Nintendo console I skip. The game pricing is absolutely insane

Birds Aren't Real

Nintendo has tricked most of these people into thinking everything they do is gold. There is nothing stronger in the gaming industry than the Nintendo bias.

king_ryan_james

The Switch 2 Edition Upgrades are free for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass Members who already own the original game.

Jambi

Im not defending Nintendo & the economy is in tough spot. That being said, I was paying $50 for Mario Sunshine in 2002. That’s roughly $90 today with inflation. So I’m paying the same for Nintendo games more than 20 years later.

Bartevious

People need to understand their crying on twitter does not matter. Just don’t buy it if you think it is overpriced for the value it provides you. It’ll be hard to justify for myself. I loved the switch for what I played on it but it felt obsolete fairly quickly.

Bartevious

I don’t really have any comment on pricing, but watching all the trailers with no knowledge of pricing, felt like a banger show and I’m not a Nintendo fan. Never really listen to this pod actually.

Trevor Cripe

Steam Deck resolution is 800p not 900p. Just a heads up.

Del Griffith

Brad, please don’t buy that tech demo “game”! Resist! Lol.

BigDumbStupidIdiot

The only reason people are overreacting to $80 for Mario Kart World is because Nintendo went before Rockstar. GTA6 is going to be $80 or $90 for the base game

Jacob Lesperance

Maybe. Here is the thing though. GTA cost 2 billion to make Nintendo makes their games very cheap.

BigDumbStupidIdiot

PS5 and Series X are $500, the PS5 Pro is $700. MK World is $80 but so will GTA 6 🤷🏼‍♂️

Uvula Smack

It’s a perfect market for this. People don’t need Nintendo games to live. If you don’t want it don’t buy it at that price.

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

Bro this thing is 700$ Canadian... I can get a OLED Steam Deck for 689$ right now. Mario Kart is not worth this insanely huge price tag. This is a bad move IMO. Nintendo carved out a nice niche being the side kick system to Playstation or Xbox. But at this price? No chance.

Diddy’s Lube Guy

Micah being afraid of mascots but not furries is reliably insane and on-brand.

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

Funny thing is that I'm normally tricked by that bias. But there is no chance in hell I'm paying 700$ Canadian for this thing...

Lawrence B

A new Mario kart seems like a weak push for $80 though. At least when tears of the kingdom went for $70 it felt fair given the scope of the game.

Lawrence B

Man I was the easiest sell for a day one purchase, they basically had to talk me out of it… I’ve been planning to for months, not anymore though. There was so little here for me to get excited about for a preorder. I know after a year or two it’ll be great but this was immensely disappointing personally and I really didn’t have huge expectations.

BigDumbStupidIdiot

They're probably the same cost wise. TOTK was $150 million

Haru Discourse

I can’t wait for another flood of fanboys at the ready with their inflation calculators to defend their favorite corporation.

DeadMail

Love hearing Dustin back with Brad and Micah! The tru triforce

Big Devin Energy

Dustin bro I drink 2 cups of coffee before 8 am those are rookie numbers. Up your caffeine game son!! 😂

Mama Micah

LOL I think I was unclear: I am indeed very afraid of the fur suits people wear but not afraid of "furries" themselves as people. I didn't want to be mean (in case we got any furries in the community). 😅 -Micah

Mama Micah

We need him to buy it, we must have a review! :) -Micah

DD

Nintendo showed off a lot of cool games but there’s zero chance I’m supporting their unprecedented anti-consumer practices this gen

Jeffry311

I don’t know why I continue to read comment sections.

Tony Upstairs Lazzaro

Is this where everyone is going to say you're done buying games. Your not.

TheWubbz

Kirby Air Riders is worth price of entry alone . Count me in. Can’t wait to play the new Mario kart

K. Huntington

if all they are doing on launch day is mario kart 9, for me, that absolutely sucks. mario kart is fine as like a sweetener. but (for me) its in no way at all a major stand alone title. i think i put like 5 or 6 hours into 8? i don't play online so it loses its luster very quickly as a single player game. i was hoping the major launch title would be metroid prime. or donkey kong... i'd like to see a major single player title for launch day

Envydiel

Just when you thought there was no way Nintendo could fumble it... Lol

Yet

I’m excited!

Aladin_Slow

Hell yeah, being mean sucks.

Deemac

Feel like Dustin is being very charitable when talking about Duskbloods being a specifically multiplayer-only game. I'll still pick it up most likely, but can't deny that hearing that it is a multiplayer game rather than a new single player Fromsoft experience, absolutely affects the hype on this game

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

2 multiplayer games in a row? I’m afraid Fromsoft is past it’s peak and Miyazaki san is washed 😔

Glen Yelenovic

Gene couldn’t make this podcast because he was stuck gooning over Peach in daisy duke’s

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

I thought the console price was fine, the price of the games tho? Absolutely insanity. I’ll still buy the switch 2 day one but I’ll be only be playing Mario Kart and the enhanced Zelda games until DK drops cause I’m not buying anything other than the 2 exclusives lol.

Glen Yelenovic

The reason I have been physical over digital is the physical games typically have a price drop faster and I can share them with my brother in laws. Since the digital will be cheaper and we can share digital games, I will be on team digital for switch 2.

Dennis

Paying for a console demo is insane. And no new Mario at launch sucks! Anyway I just pre ordered.

Richard

I feel like the world, economics and politics make a lot more sense when you grasp the idea that the price of goods are not increasing, the value of the dollar is decreasing. Dismissing a very important economic concept as "fanboys" just "defending their favorite corporation" is a serious flaw in logic. It is a fact that in real dollars a GameCube game from 2001 would sell for $90 today. If you want to be upset about a price increase, that's fine, but blaming "corporate greed" doesn't actually make any sense to me. The corporation is merely trying to maintain the status quo, they're not gouging consumers in any way that I can see. Inflation is literally baked into our current money system, it is an intentional feature and pushing the culpability onto corporations operating within that system doesn't make sense to me.

Glen Yelenovic

Billy Madison reference went right over Brad and Dustin’s heads. Lady you’re scaring us!

NUTSO JIMBO

Managed to secure my pre-order today. Arrogant Nintendo does suck but Mario Kart World looks too good to resist and I'm a big DK fan too so gotta play Bananza

NUTSO JIMBO

I'm in the UK where a lot of retailers started taking pre-orders yesterday.

Glen Yelenovic

Garnet does not have Tracer butt… Tracer has Garnet butt!

Deemac

Smyths? I preordered delivery from them in Ireland yesterday evening, and then preordered for collection this morning when I changed my mind lol. Cancelled the other preorder then

NUTSO JIMBO

I went with Argos. Just went for the basic Mario Kart World bundle. It says it'll deliver on launch day so hopefully all goes smoothly

NinjaDC

I feel the problems with this direct are more than just a speed bump. I haven't seem such a universal knee jerk reaction to the $90 game reveal since Vita revealed its expensive proprietary memory. I don't think Switch 2 will do that terribly. But if the global prices don't shift to be more in line with the Japanese prices (system $330, games, $60) I could see a significant drop in total lifetime sales from the Switch, with Switch 2 more likely to do half it's numbers (around 70-80m). The Switch 2 faces much steeper competition this time around with a plethora of new handheld already released and more on the way from both Playstation & Xbox. Against a Steam Deck 2, PS5 Portable, NextBox the Switch 2 will have a tougher fight. Especially without the cost advantage. Nintendo has for generations pushed themselves as the more budget friendly option for family (a kids first console to play Pokemon on). However as it stands, Nintendo is at price parity with weaker hardware. There also, hopefully, won't be a pandemic boost.

Haru Discourse

Can you use economic concepts to explain to me why I paid $40 for Mario Kart 7 in 2011?

Chris T.

Lmao this is the first episode of punching I’ve ever listened to

TheWubbz

How did you secure already? I got to wait for an email from Nintendo

NUTSO JIMBO

Yeah apparently I've secured one with Argos. Not sure why the Nintendo preorders are so much later. I didn't wanna wait incase I didn't get one. Maybe it's different in the US but here in the UK retailers started taking preorders yesterday.

brendan p

Yeah, that's a good point. I do think games are some of the best value you can get, and there isn't a market that really compares as far as bang-for-buck. I agree with that. Either way, twitter-outrage or not, consumers will respond with what they think is valuable. As games get more expensive, I will be curious to see if sales take a hit. Or, if those sales lost would be negligible given a certain price increase off-setting those lost sales (though, that's not accounting for increased pricing across the board due to inflation and tariffs). Or, if it just doesn't matter at all, because IP's like Mario and GTA are so popular, that people will buy no matter what. Personally, I will spend full price on very select titles, or developers that I want to support. I wait for sales for almost everything else.

Jack Doheny

That’s where I got mine as well

NUTSO JIMBO

Hopefully they deliver the goods for launch day. I haven't used Argos for a console launch before but saw comments online that they were pretty good with past launches.

Michael Mashpotato

I recommend Micah play BOTW instead of TOTK. The shrines can at times be a pain in the ass. I could see that being a major turn off. I personally hated them. Tears is technically the better game but I much prefer BOTW. I completed that game minus the korok seeds.

heyVinno

I'm rejoining the Nintendo family because I've been waiting for Zelda at 60fps(legitimately). The last Nintendo machine I bought was the Gamecube. I have a question for anyone that can help. Should I (A) Buy the switch versions of BotW and TotK along with a pro controller for €160 and pay the upgrade fee for the improved performance or should I (B) buy the switch 2 versions of both and the new pro controller for €250? It seems obvious but am I missing something?

Davey Cakes

Interest in that stupid camera is either going to be a non-starter or is going to fizzle out in a couple of months. Nintendo is wasting more time on gimmicks when we just want high quality games with standardized modern features.
