The Most Natural Thing, But Nothing We'd Expect | Sacred Symbols, Episode 361

The global economy is in a tumultuous state, inflation has carved away everyone's purchasing power, and prices are almost universally going up. So naturally, PlayStation will follow suit and jack its rates up too, right? Well, no. Instead, they're doing the exact opposite of what seems natural: For their annual, weeks-long Days of Play sales event, Sony has slashed prices on PS5 and PS5 Pro, PSVR2 and DualSense, and even DualSense Edge and the Access controller. Is Sony's boldness in risking economic erosion worth it? Is its strategy simply to put its boot on Xbox's neck once and for all? We discuss. Plus: If all went according to plan, The Order: 1886 would have gotten two sequels, EA cancels its Black Panther project while shutting down the studio behind it, Build A Rocket Boy suggests there may be a paid, organized campaign against its upcoming title MindsEye, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What does Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's success mean for the future of global JRPGs? Could Star Wars Battlefront be revived on the basis of a recent resurgence in popularity? Is Colin ignoring an obvious connection between Souls games and his beloved Castlevania? Should we invest thousands in a commemorative Concord plaque, currently for sale on an online auction site? Micah appearing in the door at 49:27, like she's his mom and just caught him talking to his friends after bedtime....🤣

Edward Walton

That was most certainly a moment.

Guns vs Kittens

Spoilercasts should just be their own show that people opt in to that may or may not even appear in a week so theres no pressure, similar to Colin's video essays

Born-Blind

I'm a year younger than Colin and 100% remember the obsession with Myst and then Riven. I didn't have anything like an older brother to help me understand wtf was going on in those games. I've gone back and played them and unfortunately it's just not my jam. Felt the same way about that somewhat recent puzzle game, The Witness.

Matt Millard

I’m kinda surprised that Matty wasn’t referenced with the MindsEye criticism. From what I could tell, his preview video was the catalyst for a lot of the talking points and was pretty informative.

Walker Simmons

Colin will play power wash simulator Shrek DLC but still no Alan Wake 2 😭

hamish-k

Around 15 minutes in to the podcast I just want to say, smooth brain is pretty much the main goal of what the bad guys want to do to world in the anime fooly cooly from year 2000. Obviously there probably a lot other stuff from before that

Beef Burka

You pretty much had to have a guide to play them

Tim Lane Games

I understand the challenges around scheduling episodes, much of is dictated by timing and relevance. For example, Druckman appeared while The Last of Us was airing, and Shuhei Yoshida joined shortly after his departure from Sony. Spoilercasts have been more frequent recently simply because of the sheer volume of new releases. In many ways, the schedule is evolving organically in response to what’s happening in the industry.

Colin, I was thinking of all the “souls” games Lies of P would be best suited to you as it’s world feels very similar to Bioshock. It’s also in my opinion the best game of this genre. If you were able to beat Stellar Blade and get to the end of Bloodborne it shouldn’t be a problem. Lies of P is a wonderful game.

Caleb Shelton

Maybe this has been thought of, but why aren’t the interviews branded as Fireside Chats? You could revive the name of the show and it would make more sense than living under Sacred Plus. And I think a Summon Sign Plus or something would be perfect for spoiler casts. It’s already the show about playing games. Why not make a second show where it fits?

Guybrush Threepwood

I cringe everytime someone writes in saying that the most popular type of sacred+ is their least favorite, and colin would you please change the entire network to fit my desires? Colin, just ignore these people and keep looking at the data. The interviews are great and one thing that makes your LSM a unqiue service to sub to.

VegaTheLate

Word of advice for Colin about FFX. I get it with Tidus, the laughing scene will forever be the epitome of cringe... But you have to look at him differently. He says it a few times, and it really is his story, not Yuna's. You have to look at it from the perspective that yes, he has a very odd mildly off-putting nature. Kind of a dork, socially awkward. But understanding that, know that his journey turns him into the wise stoic narrator of his own story. His narration is great, and you're playing the story that made him into that person. At least that's how I viewed it, and it made him much more interesting, and less insufferable though that is too harsh a word for him.

Headshot Juggernaut

Cliffhanger was the studio that said they actively don’t hire white people because they’re uncomfortable to work around. Good riddance.

Germanos

The stigmatization of Concord is stupid. Game didn't deserve to be considered as the worst thing in video games. I played it. Hope the laugh is worth it.

Germanos

Holy shit. I absolutely know what you mean, Colin, when it comes to the emotional disconnect that happens at one point of the game. I thought I was the only one because others totally carried out their emotions to the end and me... Likewise, I stopped to care.

Issac Woosley

Speaking of Souls type Lies of P is my favorite only one I've ever beat. Its story kept me dedicated to finishing it
