With Elden Ring being open world and now Nightreign being a multiplayer focused title, I'm worried FromSoftware is chasing gaming trends now instead of starting them. Depending on what Duskbloods is like, we might be in the era of FromSlop.

Daniel

Nightreign’s awesome. Really great character abilities, boss design, team work. Happy they did this, will only help their singleplayer titles. Only valid complaints are lack of in game chat/crossplay, the people calling it slop are wrong and this won’t affect their singleplayer games.

John W Torres

Love hearing from Lock! We need more Lock! We need more Lock!

Deemac

Nah they made sure to emphasize after the Duskbloods reveal, that their main aim would be to continue making premium single player experiences. I'm sure Miyazaki is working away behind the scenes on the next big single player Souls-type experience. He said after Elden Ring released that he had yet to make his ideal RPG, and that he would continue working towards that. So that kind of talk encourages me that Fromsoft will still do what they do best. They've expanded hugely in the last decade so can do multiple games at once, and these multiplayer games seem more like experimental projects to me

Brandon A

As someone who loves Expedition 33, the praise it is getting can be a bit much, sure. But I’m willing to bet a lot of them are new to turn-based, and are finally understanding what longtime gamers have already expressed. From that perspective, I say let the praises ring, and be happy for the newcomers. Hopefully it leads them to play the older stuff as well.

Diddy’s Lube Guy

Colin has stumped ChatGPT with the Expedition 33 platinum. Very sad!

Derek Hart

I think Expedition 33 deserves its praises. Overhyped? Yeah, sure; But its doing more for turn based RPGs than Metaphor or Persona has in terms of bringing in newcomers to the genre. Also, I like it better than Metaphor Refantazio for one major reason; The social system/ time management stuff was basically half the game and I was so done with it by the end 😪

Zenith Ultima

I think Brad and Colin are victims of their own expectations and the hype train surrounding the marketing and reviews for this game. They can't fully judge it on their own without comparing it against what everyone else says it is, so they drop it down a notch as a result. I personally think that's an unfair way to judge a game, but to each his own I suppose.

Big titty drinker

Hey fromsoft fanboys how long yall gonna continue to look the other way while they continue to release technically subpar games ? I really like what they have done so far but it’s inexcusable at this point

Daniel

I agree that Expedition 33 could use a quest log or bestiary for weaknesses. But save for the Nevron quests, I didn’t really hurt for a log. As someone who platinumed it, the collectibles are easily enough laid out to show what you’re missing and areas will show you when they’re unexplored. Going to every part of the world map will naturally help you find most of the trophies save for a few collectibles that might be harder to find.

Bogey

I just know Colin was silently judging hard when obsolescence came up

Bartevious

Thanks Locke, I was able to invest in Brads channel at sub 3k subs!

Bartevious

I disagree that they dropped it a notch due to what other people felt. Colin said he’d give it an 8 or a 9 but it’s not bioshock. Which is a 10 for him. If they are complaining that people are elevating it to the bioshock or 10/10 level without it being a 10/10 experience for them, a 8 or 9 is absolutely a fair score

Anthony Palerino

Man I loved Metaphor for like 40 hours and then I heard how much more was ahead of me and I dropped it. That game was super cool but it became such a drag. Maybe I’ll pick it back up but almost every dungeon felt so drab and under-developed artistically. I may just be too weak for the modern JRPG grind.

mudder12

Hmmm as far as the Metaphor vs Expedition 33 funnily enough I’m the exact opposite of Colin. I thought E33 had a better story but I enjoyed the combat in Metaphor more. I feel like the parry/dodge system kinda hurts the strategizing in combat, you can have the best strategy but if you miss your parry/dodge window you’re gonna get fucked up

The Incredible Shulk

I think it also has to do with the story reveals. I loved where it went and didn't feel like it retracted anything at all. But I can see some people wanting a different "reasons" for what is going on. Unless you're Hoeg, and pointing out that people are wearing costumes on Halloween...then your opinion is just wrong

Pianopower

No, is about the story reveals. The developers took a gamble, and it paid off for others, didnt for others. How is that difficult to understand or unreasonable?

Pianopower

Im ok with the genre not growing more. Dont need newcomers. I think at this point its been proved that some gatekeeping is always good. Fuck that shit of making things bigger or more accessible for some random person who never gave a shit about the genre.

Pianopower

Agreed with Colin. Story left much to be desired, and it only shows that a lot of people need to grab more books and raise their standards. Or maybe not, ignorance is bliss anyway.

Zenith Ultima

The general consensus seems to be that it is of that caliber. User score sits at 9.7

AllTooEasy_

Stick drift is the realest thing.

Zenith Ultima

Brad has spent every segment about this game bringing up what other people think. He mentions critic and user scores, as well as saying things like "the game is okay, but nowhere near the level of what other people have been saying it is." That's fine to say, but I mention it because it speaks to my point. It comes across like he saw all the unanimous praise the game was getting, so by the time he started it himself it could never reach those sky-high expectations. That happened to me with Persona 5

NLo23c

Nightreign is a certified banger!!!

Your Boi Nicky V

Wait why have I never thought of this before, does Locke have a real name?

AllTooEasy_

The psn profiles stats on Elden ring are completely pointless in the grand scheme of things. Game has 3.5 million players in 5 days

Austin

I was a big Fromsoftie since Dark Souls release up until Nightreign and The Dusk Bloods were announced. The sub-par graphics and performance in their games have been inexcusable since Dark Souls 3. I've been gaming long enough to see all my favorite studios stop making the games I want to play and Fromsoft seems to be heading straight in the same direction

Cameron Sturre

Colin, you are INSANE if you think that the lack of a minimap would add literal hours to your expedition 33 play through . At most there’s 2 branching paths in an area - what the fuck are you doing? There’s no winding labyrinths to explore, these aren’t sprawling, open areas either. The reliance on mini maps is a conditioning of modern games - we learn to navigate a map rather than look at the environment and engage with the game. It might be a little clumsy sometimes but I really struggle to understand you taking such umbrage with it.

Dante B

While I agree that 33 is so linear overall a minimap isn’t some time saver, I don’t think the minimap is a new age convenience of modern gaming. They’ve been around for decades, quite commonly.

Dante B

I don’t think anyone is looking the other way. It’s called out constantly. Just not bad enough to offset how great the games themselves are. But I don’t think you’ll find too many people sincerely trying to convince you they run well or anything.

Cameron Sturre

I understand the point you’re making but it’s entirely secondary to the one I’m trying to make. I’m not arguing that it isn’t a commonplace, quality of life feature in a majority of modern titles. I’m arguing against / trying to understand why it’s such a sore spot for a title with, to be honest, not much environmental complexity or exploration on offer.

Shard_of_Odium

Brad calling out Colin on the buying a controller once a year was one of my top five LSM moments, that gave me a good laugh. The Joy Cons have a massive stick drift problem and I take great care of my Xbox Elite 2, I’m the only one in the house that uses it and it has terrible stick drift. Meanwhile, my controllers that my four and eight year old use a few times a week are running strong with no issues.

Cole Phelps Sends Babies To Jail

Tainted Grail is up there with the best of Bethesda style games, the world is much more interesting than Elder Scrolls for me but I still think KCD2 is my GOTY

Deemac

Yeah that was such a weird comment by Colin, it's like he's looking for a reason to shit on a Fromsoft game lmao. He really focuses on PSN profiles as a bar of how a game is doing - that can be useful at times, but when you literally have sales numbers then it's not very relevant tbh. I mean he even acknowledged on Friday when filming Constellation that Night reign had already sold 2m copies by that point, so this was a weird comment to make this week

James Stanbury

Legend of Legaia was one of the best PS1 RPGs… man I’d kill for a digital port so I can play that gem again on modern hardware.

Genius but with downs

I must have got lucky with the new DOOM games trophies. I got the platinum with zero fuss

2MajorTony

Is Locke referring to Z-targeting resetting the camera behind Link? That’s the only thing I could think of

Vladimir Grabbinmikov

I thought the sentiment with stick drift was developers using brand new controllers to tune all their controls in game. Not tuning to what is in the general players’ hands (ex: 1 year old controller)

Walk Forward Cutscene

Yup, I’ve had Joy-con drift and stick drift on a Series X controller. No stick drift on my launch 360 controller though. Colin is just wrong on this issue

Frank G.

Legitimately the first ever controller I had stick drift was my switch blue joycon. And I know that shit was a very very common problem with people, especially that particular controller.

Spanky

YodasSlimyMudHole good sort it out lol. Some people are just 🤢. I cleaned out and repaired so many nasty controllers and consoles, I don't even want to imagine the houses that some of these consoles come from. And you can't forget about the many bugs that are living in some of these consoles 🤮. Don't know if it's possible, but if you get nasty games in send them to me. I saved plenty of cartridges and discs from their doom. I can do solder work on them or resurfacing. P.S. Colin The new controllers analogs are made like garbage. On consoles PS3 or older, I barely have to replace a whole analog stick modules on them. Most potentiometers on new controllers will weardown fast. The longest a modern controller with OEM analog sticks has lasted me is a little over 2 years if I'm lucky and I take care of my stuff.

Cai

It depends on if you vibe more with lore and world or characters and emotions. I didn’t feel like the reveal was a cop out because I loved the direction it went. For Colin, Brad and Hoeg I think they wanted more from the lore, which is understandable.

Jacob Lesperance

I am not arguing how Colin felt about the no map or quest log. I totally understand how that could be a hit against the game. For me if those things were in, it would have made it less fun. I loved having my note pad out and making my own notes and maps of quest locations and unfinished areas. My first playthrough of Elden Ring was 259 hrs because I didn't look anything up. Made my own notes and maps and loved every second of it. Everyone has their kink, lol.

lazer_josh

Damn lock looked like Dustin in the thumbnail for a sec. I was so ready for the shaved head Dustin arc

Anthony Palerino

I’ve never gotten stick drift on a DualShock, but I did use one of my DS4’s so much for playing COD that I wore out the rubber on the thumb stick. Gotta click in that stick constantly to sprint.

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

Hearing Lock talking about Ocarina of Time warms my heart as a Zelda fan. I think you will like Twilight Princess a lot too but don’t sleep on Wind Waker (it’s a top 3 Zelda game imo).

Jason Rose

I’ll hear the map argument, although I vehemently disagree as all maps are generally able to be turned off. I don’t see how a quest log would be “less fun” or take away. There are myriad side quests and tasks, not having a way to reference these or to refresh your memory that they even exist is just poor design. Elden Ring has the exact same issue and should have had one as well. No one figures some of those quests themselves, it’s practically impossible, they looked them up online which defeats the argument against have a quest log in the game.

Colin Moriarty

Hearing Locke talk about his first playthrough of OoT fills my heart with so much joy

Jason Rose

You don’t even need a mini map and I agree they’re overused, but not having a map accessible like they utilized it in the overworld was just kind of absurd. An area like Gestral village is a labyrinth that is unnecessarily convoluted and desperately needed a map if this was what they wanted to design it as.

Russell Robinson

COLIN. I know you don't do recommendations often but you mentioned waiting for Mina the Hollower. Give Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo a look. It's the closest thing you'll get to Mina that might be a good substitute. I've been enjoying it so far.

Bartevious

If the user score is 9.7, and they personally gave it a 9, how do you have a problem with that? I genuinely don’t understand the argument here. There is no evidence that supports they gave it a worse score due to how much people liked it. If they gave it a 7, and said nothing but positive things about the game I would agree with you.

Anthony Palerino

A lot of my fellow gen z folk who are more conservative are still quite different than older conservatives. Very much Barstool Sports type cultural conservatives who also don’t want barriers around investment/crypto because so many of us fancy ourselves day-traders.

Zenith Ultima

They're not saying it's a 9. They're saying it's an 8 or 8.5

Jacob Lesperance

Oh I totally understand. I am a weirdo and just happen to enjoy filling in those blanks for myself, lol

Grant MacNamara

Just a note on the Hoeg situation from the spoilercast. Colin brushing it off like no big deal "oh I get hate all the time too." Most of the comments are voicing genuine criticism about how he behaved. Colin does this towards reddit aswell when there's genuine feedback on there too. Be professional and address your paying subscribers concerns. Everytime criticism pops up anywhere it's labeled as "hate" and brushed/laughed off. Sort it out!

Scott LaFontaine

He also probably doesn't play many games that would cause it. I've found that sports games and shooters or games where I have to sprint like fortnite or cod definitely mess up the sticks

Del Griffith

Colin...You are wrong about stick drift. I have been gaming as long as you have. I had never gotten stick drift on a single controller. This generation I got it on every single joy con I own (three pairs) and on one Dualsense. It is minor on the Dualsense and ranges from major to minor on the switch controllers. This is a real issue. Something has changed for the worse. I didn't suddenly start playing more aggressively after 30 years. I'd say I treat my controllers better than ever. Rant over. Lol.

C

Lads I do not understand the “E33 needs a map” discourse. I must have gotten lost 2/3 times in the game max, the areas are nearly all linear with small branches to explore, how can one get lost? I never felt like it was something that was needed, nor was a quest log. You can check your objective at the campfire whenever you want, after that it’s all exploration.. feel like it’s nitpicking for the sake of it even though I know quite a few feel the same as ye! I do agree with Colin and losing interest in the story come the end, I was in a similar mindset, became more focused on the combat by the end

Susan B. Anthony Bourdain

There have already been FIVE revisions of the DualSense. There were only two versions of the DualShock 4 over the entire lifetime of the PS4. The DualSense is badly designed hardware. Obvious stick drift problems, various issues with haptic trigger motors, batteries dying prematurely. Super innovative features, horrendous quality. I’ve had three go bad.

Beef Burka

But Colin instantly dismissed it as "well I play more games in a year than most people play in the life of a console". Not sure why never hearing about Hall Effects sticks is relevant to this discussion either. He never knew the benefits of 60fps gameplay until 4 or 5 years ago, and now he refuses to play games that don't run at 60fps. Imagine Colin's response if someone replied to his complaints about shimmering in Alan Wake and Silent Hill with "well, it's not happening to me, so it must be a problem with your eyes or something." Brad read one of my sort it out comments where I told the "it's not happening to me, so I don't believe you" people to sort it out...well there you go.

Guybrush Threepwood

Colin "Stick drift is your fault" Moriarty strikes again!

NeO JD

I prefer the Atlus RPGs easily but E33’s combat felt better and wasn’t as challenging because it was fair.

NeO JD

Try playing it on Easy perhaps? I did the whole game in around that time as I mostly play for the story and characters. The optional bosses are still ridiculous though.

Alex

When I was still in Act 1 I felt the same way, but once the world opened up I didn't feel a map was necessary whatsoever. On the other hand what I felt was missing was some sort of marker that would clearly mark if you've done everything in a particular zone/dungeon. There were so many times in Act 3 where I looked at the world map and wasn't sure if I explored this zone or not.

Alastair Abela

Finally - they call Colin out on his moronic take on controller stick drift. The amount of times he mentioned getting a new controller every year was getting on my nerves...

Gal Sharpton

I think Colin misinterpreted the term “political”. When people bring it up I think they are speaking about it in the micro sense and how it pertains to our current world today. Not in the macro sense of - there are political themes in the game.

Girth Brooks

Exactly. Colin acts as if games like Call of Duty are just as political as games like Dustborn or Relooted just because COD is about “war”.

Girth Brooks

I’m low key certain that deep down Colin annoys the piss out of Brad and he plans to dip as soon as his new youtube channel takes off. Then there’ll be some elaborate excuse how that’s only a coincidence and he’s leaving for another reason. Bookmark this.

Shard_of_Odium

I hope not, Brad is great on LSM. I’d be so sad to see him go. “Brad, why’d you leave LSM?” “I couldn’t stand being asked ‘Who’s this?’ one more time as Colin held up a robot master statue!”

Glen Yelenovic

Thank you Brad for calling out Colin on his terrible stick drift theory. I have been saying it for years now. Colin: “Stick drift is your fault, not the controller. I have never had stick drift”. Also Colin “you have to get a fresh new controller every year”
