I agree with Colin’s point about history. I was going to major in history but ended up with an English literature degree. People might be surprised at how similar the course curriculum is between the two subjects. I mean, I had two classes that were basically American history disguised as English.

It’s so nostalgic hearing Colin talk about the blue book history exams. I only did a minor in history, but those classes were some of my fondest memories from college. It’s a shame that people are turned off from history because of how shit public schools are at teaching it.

I do the exact same thing with weird acronyms/mnemonics, which has lead me to some really bizarre tidbits of information that I still remember. In high school we were tasked with memorizing the entire periodic table; my method to do so was to come up with the most absurdly long, bizarre mnemonic I could possibly dream up. I’ve forgotten most of it now, but I’ll always remember 28-30 (Ni->Cu>Zn, nickel copper zinc) being “Ninjas Curse Zanzibar.” My friends thought that was hilarious and we still reference it sometimes to this day, but hey, it worked.

I agree with your decision to not talk about politics. It’s a pointless endeavor in this space. Everyone’s minds are made up at this point and I’d rather hear about anything else. All it could accomplish is to alienate people. To elaborate, I think it’s more that people disagree with the opinions themselves, rather than being put off by uncivil comments. It would almost certainly cause a chunk of people to leave the Patreon. In my opinion.
