Way back in February -- on episode 436, to be exact -- Brad, Dustin, and I (Colin) sat down to rank PlayStation's IP. Y'know, a fun little exercise in which to partake. But after two hours or so, we realized the job was far too big for a single show, and we resolved to get back to it in due course. Little did anyone know it would take like four months, but here we are! A polite suggestion: Be sure you watch or listen to episode 436 first. Then, join us for the final two-ish hours of our trademark-sorting extravaganza, and see if you agree or disagree with where we place iconic and obscure Sony games and series alike, ranked S, A, B, C, or F. Please enjoy, and be well.

First, hope everyone is doing well ☺️

I may have missed it but did they put out a follow up of the Sacred Bets?

All the community levels of lbp were archived, some former devs even stream them on modded ps3 and that ps3 pc emulator now

Colin - One of my fav breweries in VA is Adroit Theory. Literally everything I've had from there is amazing, but I rarely see it out in the wild up here in MA. They make pretty much everything, Lagers, IPAs, Stouts, Sours, etc. Also the most metal beer can art you'll ever see: https://www.adroit-theory.com/ Fonts used are in the style of Diablo

Black Detective in Dexter

Just busting balls but complaining that your pool is too hot has to be one of the most out of touch, yuppie things I've ever heard.

Twisted metal head on is at worst the third best twisted game behind 2 and black but my personal favorite

NeO JD

Was thinking the same thing. Did they forget?

I think general audiences didn't connect with days gone at release because it was released at peak zombie fatigue. Between the walking dead, dead island, dying light, the last of us (which isn't *technically* zombies, but it's pretty much zombies) and the plethora of other zombie-based IP, days gone just wasn't it at the time. Now that the fatigue has worn off people can see it for the good game that it is, but it's just am unfortunate situation where they unknowingly introduced it into a hostile market

Black Detective in Dexter

There's also no other zombie game that does massive hordes like Days Gone. A lot of people didn't even get far enough to experience the hordes when the game first released and just trashed it for being a "generic zombie game". This was also around the time when the whole "white guy protagonist=bad" narrative started popping up.

KYisLife

No, Colin said on Sacred that schedules didn’t line up this week

Kasual7

Oh thanks for the reply, it's been a while already and I'd hope by now we would have the results lol.

A note about White Knight Chronicles 2: While it is a sequel, its almost more of a pseudosequel in some ways. WKC2 is a reworked (and significantly improved) version of the original WKC with the "sequel" part added as an expansion. I mention this as many people seem to lack experience with WKC2, and while the first game was pretty rough, I do find that WKC2 improved it in substantial and meaningful ways. Still, nothing higher than a 7/10 experience when all is said and done.

Hot Shots Golf is SS+ Ultra Deluxe pissing all over every other game in Sony history tier and I won’t hear anything else.

Deemac

Have had a pretty shit day (nothing really serious), so it's nice to be able to come home, switch off, and just listen to the boys BS about games. Thanks guys

Diddy’s Lube Guy

When Days Gone was released at full price, it was a broken piece of shit mess. Your love of the halflings’ leaf has clearly dulled your mind.

KYisLife

Colin, would you mind unpacking what you meant calling Invisimals an illegitimate IP? I haven’t played it but know they made several games.

AllTooEasy_

Is there actually tension with Colin and Dustin? Felt weird

Envydiel

Colin and Brad - what about a "book club" type episode, where you give a month's notice that a spoiler cast for an old game is coming and the audience plays it and writes in for the spoiler cast. First episode Dark Cloud ☁️

Benji_B2sick

I’m calling it now. Colin gets burnt out on death stranding 2 about 3 hours in after coming straight off of trying to platinum DS1

Jeff in NOLA

Next tier list should be most annoying game fan bases. Expedition and Last of Us s tier annoying

Michael Mashpotato

I know you guys skipped this one but Jet Li Rise to Honor is an A tier PS2 classic for me. The combat was really innovative for its time. You would get surrounded by enemies and use the right analog stick to attack in the direction you wanted. I loved that combat. The the only other game that feels similar to its combat is Sifu.

Derek Hart

The Last Guardian was criminally under appreciated when it came out. The programming for Trico is insanely impressive, so I understand why the game took so long to make ( and why it struggles with framerate issues ) The story of that game and the ending made me tear up. Can't wait for GenDesign/ Ueda's new project

Your Boi Nicky V

Socom, which sold millions and is much beloved, in the same tier as shit like Concrete Genie? Great episode, lack of respect for the GOAT aside.

Dante B

It would be impressive, if it worked even remotely consistently. I absolutely love the game and agree on the ending, but getting Trico to consistently do what you want him to do is by far the weakest part.

Dante B

I agree. Really needs ABCDF tiers. 99% of IP doesn’t belong in A-C. Concrete Genie is a good example, and I actually really enjoyed that game and got the platinum for it. But it did nothing critically, was a commercial failure and will never be heard from again. Doesn’t belong shoulder to shoulder with a lot of these others at all.

DeadMail

“Wild Arms came out at the turn of the century” is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. It makes logical sense but sound likea history teacher talking about some shit from 1895

Kaleb

FAT PRINCESS MENTIONED 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

Jason Bolla

Colin, you always mention Wild Arms XF as a reimagining of 1, but that was Alter Code F. XF was a tactics game. Did you ever get the chance to play it? I love the Wild Arms series, but that game was always exceptionally difficult to me.

DixieNormous

Couple days late on this but not one of you 3 have played jak 2 or 3? The jump from precursors legacy to 2 is jaw dropping (for an 8 year old kid on Christmas anyway). Honestly mind blown, those are must plays for Playstation

Aaron

Says the guy posting on a playstation podcast comment section about Xbox. The irony

Murderer Kevin

The London slander will not be tolerated, don't get me wrong The US, France etc are very fucking hot but christ the humidity is bad in the UK. All our houses retain the heat and we have no AC anywhere except supermakets. But it'll probably rain after a couple days so we can't be that mad

Morten Madsen

Ranking all Playstation Studios?

Caleb Peacock

Too much based off sales. If an Ueda game is S in your heart say it with your chest. And then yeah you should follow the bell curve Happy with Dustin’s TLG love. It’s my third favorite but offers most than most games.

Eisley

Eating apples makes my scalp itch and icing makes me queasy

Eisley

I’ve beat Death Stranding 3 times and am working on my second platinum. The only time I started to feel burn out was when I was trying to rush through it

Gary Clark

The hate on Spider-Man crazy

Branson Skidmore

They need to play the Jak trilogy. I am so surprised they all only played the first one! It’s one of my favorite trilogies growing up and the transition from the first to the second game is incredible.

DIS-Bee

MAG was awesome. Felt totally different than other shooters at the time. What I would give to see that green text saying "+10 Frago Bonus" again.

Gooch Gobbler

making so much of this based on sales makes this so much more boring. Unfinished Swan, Sly Cooper, AND Tearaway in C but Days Gone and fuckin Until Dawn in B? Baffling

Benjamin Pope

Absolutely love this idea 💡 👏 Reminds me of when Ben Hanson was on the GameInformer Show, he started doing a "Video Game Book Club" or whatever they called it back then. It was rad.
